Hey.
People have been asking for it for years (see pic), and it's really bothering us.
Not even just PC players, even console players have been asking for it.
You made a subclass that can roll out of danger. That throws knives which reduce the roll's cooldown, creating an incentive to throw knives when in life or death situations to save your life. But if within an arbitrary and sometimes inconsistent range and angle, trying to do that will hurl you towards danger and deny you the cooldown reduction in one fell swoop instead.
Just because it was decided at some point that normal melee and melee ability needed to share the same button.
I cannot count how many times this killed me, or made me spin 100° to punch someone behind me and disorienting me, instead of throwing a fireball at my target. Or just made me waste my precious charged melee on some grunt i needed to punch which i could have saved for a major instead.
It's just a keybind. It's really not that much work to implement.
Why do attunement of sky warlocks get to punch people in the face at point blank with a fireball and get their sunbracers going, but thousand cuts hunters can't throw knives at the same range to reduce their cooldowns ? And why can't the warlocks chose to save that fireball for later and just do a regular punch ?
Back in the Activision days, i just thought they didn't let anyone work on anything that wouldn't yield measurable increase in revenue, and that you going self-published would mean you'd listen to feedback more.
And for once, the community isn't asking for the moon like a complete re-do of crucible netcode / dedicated servers or Forsaken-quality quests every season.
So please, PLEASE, stop ignoring this feedback.
It's such a simple fix, and would make those subclasses sooo much smoother to play.
Just give us the keybind option already. PLEASE.

Necro. It's getting really dumb too because now we have things that aren't consistent. Stasis melee for hunter is like the other ranged abilities, too close and you just hit them instead. But warlock who also has ranged abilities which all trigger regardless of range, doesn't. The worst one by far is the titan, because that one IS a melee ability, not ranged, but you have to either hold the melee button or be farther away, and then it will trigger it. So clearly they CAN do it, they just haven't fixed the old ones yet.
-
I'm just gonna go ahead and necro this to point out that Stasis Warlock ranged melee distance was halved to 16m. So now, if you're farther than 16m it misses, and if you're below like 7m you lunge at your target and do a useless uncharged melee. So shadebinder melee ability can only work if the target is within a 9m range, and doesn't move from it because its projectile speed was also reduced. So your target needs to be moving towards you, already slowed or frozen to have any chance of even using the damn thing. Don't get me wrong, shadebinder NEEDED that nerf, but the dire need for separate bindings have never been so obvious.

Edited by Vexx: 7/18/2020 9:53:21 PMI wish i could like this post more than once. When i'm playing on my hunter i mostly play on way of the trapper or way of the pathfinder, they are my favourite by far. Out of these 2 subclasses, i prefer pathfinder. I can't tell you how many times i've been on pathfinder and i try to throw my smoke invis in a pretty clutch moment, and it launches me towards the enemy and i die. Especially now with swords being meta, i like to get in and attack with gullotine until i'm at red health, then before the next stomp throw a quick smoke invis and get out of there.... you can bet your ass that leads to me trying to stab a big boss and getting my ass stomped to death, this is just pure frustration at the moment. Also while i'm here, why the hell can i not throw my smoke with a sword equipped? I have to switch weapons and then throw it. Yet i can throw my grenade with my sword equipped no problems. The game is trying to register that i am attempting to melee the enemy with my sword out and does nothing. All of this has led me to play way of the trapper much more than i would like to, as the dodge invis is just much more reliable than the crappy, buggy melee. It also happens vice versa sometimes too. I genuinely want to melee a red bar enemy that is close to me but the game ends up throwing my smoke at his head instead wasting it... It used to be funny, now i just sigh in dissapointment when it happens.
-
I would also like to be able to restrict bindings based on the class I am playing without having to go in and change things constantly.
-
My idea: Tap button, an unpowered melee. Hold button, consume the charge for a powered ability. I also wish we could more melee weapons, especially some sort of weaker non power weapon ones that use Special ammo.
-
I use kepris sting, its actually a perfect solution to your problem. That way, whenever your melee messes up, you will activate its exotic perk and stun the enemy all while activating wall hacks on top of that and smoking the enemy will allow you to always win your melee fight since their melees wont work after being stunned.
-
Lmao he said please stop ignoring feedback
-
Yeah this game sucks.
-
Bungie: So you asking for sword nerfs? We got you
-
The amounts of times ive thrown a knife or smoke bomb when i just wanted to punch him or being at full hp and getting an overshield for no reason is stupid
-
3 RepliesI’d like them to make smoke/throwing knife/Warlock melee projectiles bind to Hold R1. But they said they can’t do this because the regular melee would trigger first. Surely there has to be a way around this though.
-
It's not a hard issue to fix. They don't even need to change the binds. Hold the button for charged melee, tap for your regular melee. Hell, they could even do that to shoulder charge too, you can't buiod momentum passively, you have to actively hold melee and let it go when you're charged. There's so many simple solutions to problems in this game, but Bungie either takes the worst path, or outright doesn't tackle the issue.
-
This would be nice.
-
Edited by Dante: 7/18/2020 11:59:18 PMi cant even count how many times my character decided to do quick melee instead of throwing smoke bomb while surrounded by 20 enemies lol
-
It will never happen, do you realize by paying them destiny 1 content, they have nothing to do to cash in.
-
1 ReplyI think the better thing to ask for is for it to even be possible Casue I'm pretty sure it's just an if-else condition right now.
-
I thought this was done with the new controllers setting?
-
12 RepliesWe also need to be able to separate weapon equips. In Warframe where you have 2 guns, there is a binding "Swap Weapon" which you use when you want to swap through all 3 weapons or you can use the separate bindings "Swap Gun" And "Swap Melee" to allow the ability to scroll down for gun swaps and scroll up for Melee Equip (For example). I want separate binding options like in Warframe. I'm tired of losing PvP battles because I instinctively scrolled down and equipped my empty heavy weapon. I want my heavy to only be equipped when I scroll up and my Primary and Energy to swap when scrolling down. But unfortunately there is only 1 binding for all weapons.

Eh, doesn't really bother me that much. I'm fine if they leave it as is.

Edited by JasperGTR: 7/18/2020 7:41:53 PM
... Back in the Activision days, i just thought they didn't let anyone work on anything that wouldn't yield measurable increase in revenue, and that you going self-published would mean you'd listen to feedback more. So please, PLEASE, stop ignoring this feedback. ...
Lol! People actually believed Activision had THAT much control? They were a publisher. They have partner contractors, companies, deadlines, and investors. Bungie designs the game. They are just too inferior and inexperienced to have a specific direction or vision for this game. I fully believe that (given the last 6+ years) they may get things right in about another 5-6 years. I hope they do. There is still a LOT of potential (the most I've ever seen personally). They just need a competent person to lead the project, and make better decisions for the game. If the end result is good enough, revenue will increase. But as long as people are buying silver for ornaments and emotes, etc... they simply have no incentive to move the game forward properly. They've received their revenue without developing anything that impacts the game play itself (unless your goal for Destiny is to dance and change costumes - that's cool too).
-
You could already do that on PC I think, and they gave console the option recently I believe
-
2 RepliesOn pc you already can do that. But its kinda...original. If you use your super key, it will use your basic melee even when your abilities are charged XD
-
With the clicks and holds options now this would be easy you'd think but the code is such a ballooned tangled mess they'd just break it trying to implement it.
