Using High Energy Fire along with Charge Harvester has a bugged interaction. As theorized in this thread a few days ago, when you get the kill that makes you become Charged with Light, you get a stack and immediately consume the stack on the kill you just got. If you're like me and use Charge Harvester for its PvP benefits, then this bugged interaction will not help you and only hurt you as you are investing stats for having the mods equipped.
Here is the video where I prove Charged with Light and High Energy Fire has a bugged interaction
I have the following mods equipped:
- Charged Harvester (Season of Arrival void mod)
- Stacks on Stacks (Season of Dawn void mod
- High Energy Fire (Season of Dawn general mod)
As you can see I use the Charge Harvester mod. This mod allows you to become Charged with Light (if you are not already) by getting kills or assists. I've found that you become charged after roughly 4 to 6 kills or assists. Along with that I use Stacks on Stacks to get two stacks instead of one. To complete the build, I use High Energy Fire. This mod allows me to deal extra damage as long as I have a stack of Charged with Light. Note: one kill consumes one charge.
In the video, I demonstrate I have these three mods equipped. After a few kills I gain one stack on Charged with Light when I kill the Vex Harpy at 0:57. Take note that there is no other enemy that I kill alongside the Vex Harpy, it is only the Harpy that I kill at that specific timeframe.
Since I am using Stacks on Stacks, I should have received two stacks of Charged with Light instead of only one stack. I would like to point out after thorough testing that if I was not using the Stacks on Stacks mod, I would never receive my one stack of Charged with Light through the use of the Charge Harvester mod.
A few seconds later into the video, I unequip my cloak which had the High Energy Fire mod equipped and use a random cloak with the Enhanced Relay Defender mod to prove that Charge Harvester and Stacks on Stacks normally does give me two stacks of Charged with Light.
This bugged interaction is very frustrating as I am investing a total of 20 points of stats (10 mobility and 10 recovery) to gain half of the intended effect I should be receiving. I very much hope that Bungie takes notice of this interaction and fixes it promptly.

1 ReplyHi there. Thanks for reporting this and including an explanation and video. I've sent this to the team for an investigation.

I find the bonus damage while charged with light is inconsistent someone's it does nothing and sometimes it adds 100 damage... Would be nice if it at least added 1000

1 ReplyI think it's the same with other kill-based mods (Precisely Charged, Quick Charge, Blast Radius, Swift Charge, Precision Charge, Sustained Charge) and I see the exact same behavior. At first I didn't notice it because all my PvE builds are AOE based and I rely heavily on things like Sunshot, Trinity Ghoul, Loaded Question, Dragonfly / Firefly / Meganeura, even goofed around with Graviton Lance and Skyburner's Oath for a bit. I thought one of the enemies was being offed with the help of High-Energy Fire. Then I did some single-target tests like you did and it looks like all of the above mods are affected. It seems to be doing the following: 1) Final shot triggers enemy death event 2) Enemy death event increases internal kill-based mod counter 3) Counter reaches threshold, triggers charged with light generation 4) Stacks on Stacks triggers 5) High-energy fire triggers on enemy death Step 5 above is clearly out of place in this scenario and should only be executed if you were already charged with light at step 1. The fix may be a bit tricky since Charge Harvester behaves differently from the weapon-based and multi-kill mods, but it's not exactly rocket science either.

Happened to me as well. It seriously sucks.
