In PvE I can kinda understand with divinity and effigy, but even with those in mind, ammo is so plentiful that there's hardly a difference between them being special and primary weapons. The other trace rifles on the other hand simply don't perform well enough to justify taking special ammo.
In PvP, it only gets worse. Trace rifles have an optimal TtK of .73 seconds, which is slower than 600 rpm autos, though there is an exception in divinity, which has a TtK of 1.13 seconds. On top of having primary weapon TtK's, trace rifles also have the worst ammo economy in the Crucible, by far as well as requiring 10 crits+1 body (dvinity requires 17 crits+1 body lol), making them hardly usable outside of very niche situations.
In conclusion, buff trace rifles.

The thing about buffing divinity in PvP even though it has a the slowest ttk of all guns, the flinch of divinity and the ability to shoot people behind walls cause of bubble makes up for its slow ttk. Plus once you get the bubble going you have practically infinite range.
-
They need a slightly faster TTK in PvP, like 0.65.

Ive heard this somewhere before... Youtube I do believe.
-
Give us mods specifically for trace rifles. Special Ammo finder only does so much.

Trace rifles are actual LAZER beams. Unlike other weapons you can hipfire trace rifles, strafe, jump, etc. and not be penalized for it. Making them very good for quick 1v1s. Only reason they arent good is because ammo

5 RepliesEdited by Griever: 7/15/2020 11:46:34 PMI agree they should get a buff of some kind, though I'm not sure how it should go. Coldheart can increase it's damage by I think 30% if you can keep it on the guy. PLens damages everything near where you're aiming and has potentially a bottomless clip. Wavesplitter cycles through it's damage output which is why it's preferred over the others. Divinity should at least cause those damage bursts more often, otherwise I can understand if the enemy's entire body becomes a crit spot. I'd compare it to Rat King, not great alone, your best friend when surrounded by teammates. Effigy can do 30% more with the catalyst, and the orbs are powerful to say the least, a "surprise ************!" weapon for every other kill. They should out DPS ARs, but how much? They fire 1000 RPM (about 16-17 rounds per second), and I think Wavesplitter for example can cycle up to 25 damage to the head. Here's the best I can think of: Coldheart. Increase damage buff or increase crit multiplier/ damage. PLens. Increase AoE radius and damage. Refund the ammo that wasn't wasted on a kill. Wavesplitter. It's good as is, maybe increase buff duration when picking up orbs and increase frequency of cycle changes. Divinity. Increase frequency of bursts. Effigy. Let orb damage stack with the catalyst buff or give Unstoppable and Disruption to the slam and drain respectively.

They are really good pve weapons, they could use primary instead of special. As you said, they have a ttk of .7? Thats very primary ammo like ttk so why not? I personally love how tracer rifles are exotic only, it makes them really unique. The day a legendary trace rifle comes out, all the exotic ones will lose value
-
I agree with everything you are saying. But I gave my old wavesplitter a chance and It`s actually really competative with the current auto rifle spammers. Yeah the optimal ttk of autos is 0.03 better but the body shot ttk of the traces is a lot better. You gonna win a lot of fights. But the ammo economy sucks...I wish only there was a scavinger for traces. It`s not a bad option like a weapon, but yeah: -it`s exotic -special ammo -bad ammo economy -no scavinger
-
6 RepliesAbsolutely not. Never buff Traces in PvP. I hear one little bzzt and the Prometheus Lens flashbacks start. Not to mention Wavesplitter cancer in Forsaken.
-
Big agree particularly with the ammo economy. Its just, really not enough. Only picking up 17 rounds on Ruinous Effigy on an enemy is a real kick in the nuts when I could be getting a sniper or shotgun round, either of which can practically guarantee me a kill if Im not preforming incompetently.
-
Yea, I would like them to just kill slower and be primaries.
-
Bungie is bad with coding its clear as day. they dont want another promethius lens debacle that instant kills people again so they wont mess with them anymore. my guess who knows. I would like to use them again, but its bungie. they dont listen nor do they bend the knee unless its a paid expansion topic arises.
-
3 RepliesAnd can we just get some legendary trace rifles already?
-
Buff Effigy by making the sphere throwable.
-
12 RepliesCould probably make Coldheart a primary. Looking at all the Trace Rifles in the game, Coldheart is honestly the most lacking. All it really has is the extra damage as it continues firing, and two of the others do the same thing but with extra benefits
-
1 ReplyEdited by juppstrunz911: 7/17/2020 4:45:38 AMYeah they need a buff. They are definitely not competitive in pvp. Not that much like we had already. Don't need a second lasershow. Some might remember. Sadly bungie is not able to balance the weapons that it doesn't matter which type you use in pvp. There will be always a crappy meta. Would be so nice to be competitive no matter which weapon class I choose.
-
5 RepliesI think they should also rework coldheart as one of the perks only effect is stating that the gun is indeed a trace rifle. Imho they should make it so in the new dlc coldheart has the ability to swap between arc and sta-sis damage types.
-
Lol what? Coldheart is my "PVP" sweat mode gun. If it got anymore of a buff it would become meta. Can't really speak on behalf of the others because I don't use wave, lens (besides strikes rarely) and don't have divinity or the new one. Shhhhh! #Coldheartalldayeveryday
-
They are also given 50 ammo as their comparative amount to a snipers, fusions, or shotguns 2. The last three are much more hit or miss per shot, while even sub optimal trace rifle usage is saving ammo compared to them.
-
Why are Titans 'special' players? These are questions we aren't educated enough to understand.
-
2 RepliesIt would be nice, if in PvE, Coldheart had a freezing type effect (I understand it's currently not an Ice beam, but it would fit more with the weapon), Wavesplitter had a suppression type void effect (like a Titan suppression nade), and Lens had a DoT burning effect. Add that all effects take place after x secs of continuous damage, to make them no just a fusion rifle burst for effect. I'd suggest 5 secs. Unlike Divinity though, none will have any Champion debuff effect. Just a thought that could make them more unique, and viable, in PvE, as right now, unless there is a bounty for them, I don't use them over a Telesto or Witherhord. Especially as they are exotic.
-
here before they delete trace rifles from the game in response
-
They are very special, only exotics. and there are only 5 of them, so that makes them even more special.
-
3 Replies600rpm autos are an outlier. Trace rifles arent bad because autos are marginally better in TTK department. I dont use them so I dont know if they fixed the inconsistent ammo amounts on pick with the scavenger mods but get that sorted out and possibly grant a higher amount on pick up. 600 autos will be dealt with soon.
-
3 RepliesThey should just switch them back to using Primary ammo. I doubt Bungie's ever gonna buff them, especially after the issues with Prometheus Lens and Wavesplitter when they were first released.
