Are the Traveler and the Gardner the same entity?
So this is genuinely something I'm curious about
I always hated the idea that the Light was in fact the Traveler back in D1 but a lot more evidence seems to be coming out to suggest they're one and the same
So I'll leave it to the community, whatever the answer is I'll fully accept it as the consensus understanding

The traveler is a golfball the found the light back in 1800's, then it got supersized by the light and went around spreading it

Both are paracasual "sisters" that originated with the creation of the Universe. Both have been stuck in a game of dangerous proportions. The (Gardener) is the sister whom creates/helps life evolve. The (Winnower) is the sister whom decays/destroys set life. Both are stuck in an eternal, never ending cat and mouse game. In a sense, they are the same entity, but with polar opposite personalities and agendas and us (humans) are forever involved in their struggle of light and dark.

I’m pretty sure that the gardener and winnowed are just metaphors to demonstrate the views of the light and darkness, whether the Traveler is the only pure emanation or light is uncertain but I haven’t seen any evidence of more existing.

1 ReplyI remember the gardener and the winnower putting physical versions of themselves into the flower game (our reality) as a new rule to see if it would change the outcome of the final shape (presumed to be the vex) So, in turn, the gardener and the traveller are the same essentially

In philosophy it means avatar. So the traveler is a avatar of the gardener. The ahamakra we see are avatars of their true form.

Nah, bungie added more depth to the lore lately. The Gardner is a Godlike being with no real form. The traveler on the other hand was something created by that very powerful godlike being but it was tossed out of the garden. The Gardener created the garden to test out new forms of creation and the winnoer another godlike being claimed anything deemed a failure by the Gardener but when the winnoer tried to destroy the garden's contents entirly a fight broke out and everything in the garden was tossed into the abyss. This ended up creating the universe and that might have been why the traveler has the power of light because the Gardener is the original light the first creator so being a direct descendent of that might have been why the traveler has that power. But if your being blunt light is life, hope, form and creation it stands to be the exact opposite of the dark in every way. While the dark is nothing but destruction, death and nothingness it is in a since nothing but a void that consumes all. The winnoer is the original darkness that existed before creation so the darkness might actually be the winnoer or simply a creation of hers made to hunt the the creations tossed out of the garden. Then finally accomplish what the winnoer first could not do back at the garden. To destroy or consume everything ever created in the garden hence the reason the darkness wants us to join it, its trying to consume us too and then use us to attack and consume the traveler and then probably destroy it and everything else.

All I see is a machine powered by and passively improves the Light around it. As spoken the Speaker, ''The light lives in all places, in all things, you can block it, even try to trap it but the light will find its way''. To be honest unless we have visual representation of this ''Gardner'' or the other one, I won't begin to think about all that stuff. The only thing that matters is in our universe.

3 RepliesThe gardener is an aspect of order, basically the creator or an agent thereof, the traveler I just refer to as "the gonad of god" Darkness, (again I'm assuming because Bungie are pretty vague at the whole story side) is chaos, usually associated with the feminine. So the divine couple had a tussel, she kicked him in the cradle of creation and we see the aftermath.

I think the gardener is just analogy for the light more than the traveler.

When i read if the first time, i took it that the traveler is something created and released by the gardener to change the pattern. "the darkness" is the winnowers response to balance its existence. Now im not so sure.

6 RepliesThe Gardner is Light, the Traveler is the biggest aspect of Light (in this reality). So no, the Traveler is not the Gardener, but it is an aspect of the Gardener.
