I've seen people on this forum go "hur hur why should low skilled players should feel good about their skill level NOW they are learning how bad they are at the game" To those people I want to say this. What gives you the right to say that someone isn't allowed to win or have fun in games?
Yes I'm one of many people who aren't that good at the game so what? I'm never allowed to win again or even allowed to feel good about playing this game? Why the hell should I who maybe plays this game for 5-6 hours a week be pitted vs someone who had 50k+ hours in pvp. And then be told "Well you're shit at this game so frankly it's your fault you lost" WELL NO SHIT. If I dragged someone brand new to boxing into a boxing match vs a pro and then told them as they lay on the floor bleeding wishing for death "well it's your fault you wanted to box" NO IT ISN'T THEIR FAULT.
You can't say it's fair to pit people against one another just due to connection. If you did that with literally anything else you would be viewed as crazy. "Oh you live on the same street professional footballer well you have to play against him now and if you lose and complain about being forced to play vs a professional you'll be laughed at for complaining" It's madness!!!
There is nothing wrong with a bad player winning a game and being top scorer if they are against people who are at the same level of skill as them... Look at boxing you have weight classes.. why?! Because it's damn stupid to pit a lightweight fighter vs a heavyweight. This is literally what is happening in PvP. You are having a me aka mr below average skill level being forced to play against mr plays the game everyday 5 hours a day.
So feel free the elitist scum who go on these forums and spit out your toxic views frankly I hope the company shuts down for creating a game where if you're not the best of the -blam!-ing best you're treated like shit by how the game works and how the community of this game treats you.
-blam!- you all

2 RepliesWow.... it's sad that some of the comments here prove the OPs point about elitism. The really sad part, is how the game and community have degraded since going FtP. Community events used to be about everyone; the whole community coming together. We used to praise underdog teams for achievements, such as the all-deaf Lev completion. We used to rave about how the game has given people a place they feel welcome. For example, the returning vets who were mentally and physically injured. Bungie even has statements about being inclusive, and having exceptions for accessibility to players. Accessibility options that help people, like my friends with physical disabilities. They have even recently gone so far as to add accessibility options, which I give Bungie credit for (even if i broke sprint for a while). However, now we have seasons which promote FOMO. We have stripped SBMM from all of the casual PvP play lists (instead of leaving one or two around). We're devaluing our prized gear. All in the name of making it more enjoyable for the hardcore crowd. And maybe that's fine. If this game is only for the hardcores out there, then so be it. Maybe the casuals and scrubs should just leave. But when that happens, this community better not have the balls to complain about slow matchmaking, a toxic community, and lack of content. And most of all, you can say goodbye to the success stories of Destiny, the true "had to be there" achievements; the things that make us proud to support this game. Over the past few weeks, I've seen and partipated in tha lot of debates. It's made me realize one thing; the community is becoming embarrassing. I used to be proud to wear a Destiny / Bunige shirt around the office; it would spark a conversation, and I could talk up the previously mentioned success stories of the community. Now, it just reminds me of the civil war going on in this community; and it's sad.

17 RepliesEdited by Arthas: 7/10/2020 5:45:17 AMokay, but overall you're a small part of the playerbase, and i can say that last banner was the most fun ive had in crucible in a very long time. So yeah, if you arent good at shooters, dont play shooters. Or you know, do as they say... git gud

I’m Destinys worst ever PvP player and you know what, there aren’t as many elitists as you think there are in game. Sure there a few over zealous competitive types who think PvP is a job and enjoy beating up the likes of myself but the majority of players actually hover around a fairly narrow band of skill in terms of stats ...say 0.8 to 1.2 KD so CBMM doesn’t make a vast amount of difference. What does and the difference is coming up against a team with good communication and coordination. It’s a game. We win some and we lose some but it is still just a game. Yes you can win matches, yes you can have fun- nobody is stopping you but it’s not serious so just chill and savour every little success. It helps.

Lol comes in as a noob 3 years late to the party and whines he doesn't have sbmm. You do have it. Play the playlists that have sbmm and stop whining.

5 RepliesEdited by Fibby: 7/9/2020 12:43:29 AMFor years shooters had social playlists that matched you against anybody, some had some sort of ranked play as an option, and nobody had these tantrums about having to play people who are better than them.... Thats what you have Destiny now, social 6v6 modes and 3v3 that uses skill based matchmaking, and that is perfectly fine. You put the time and improved gradually if you were not happy about your performance, played at a certain level and accepted that you will face people who outplay you, or moved on. You don’t get better if you never face anyone half decent in the game, you can easily develop bad habits in lower tiers of skill because there is hardly anyone there to punish you for your mistakes. Not only is SBMM not needed in every single playlist because many succesfull shooters maintained healthy populations in the past without it, but in the case of Destiny it also has a massive impact on the connection quality and queue times for pretty much anyone who is above average, and even for below average and average players if they either have to play outside their regions peaks hours, or live in a sparsely populated part of the world. The game runs on peer to peer network and needs regional lobbies to function even somewhat properly, we have multiple activies in the game in both pve and pvp, and when you don’t have hundreds of thousands of players online at any given time, you often end up in a situation where you cannot fill the lobby with players that are in the same region if you have to exclude a portion of the players based on their skill levels. While some matches end up being one sided due to a variety of skill levels, its something that needs to be done in order to avoid the constant lag issues and multicontinent lobbies some of us had under SBMM. You might find this unfair, but its not exactly fair either that you can basically be stuck with an inferior connection quality in the game despite actually having a good connection yourself just because you happen to be decent at the game (or spend a lot of time to get there), and the game cannot find you enough worthy opponents within your own region. In my opinion, SBMM was at least particially developed and applied to unranked and non-competitive game modes in order to provide a false sense of success for a variety of players so that they are more likely to spend money on expansions and microtransactions, but in this case it has to be taken out because it compromises the connection quality far too often.

5 RepliesI personally agree, people should not have to face “sweat gods” all day in pvp. There needs to be a better matchmaking system that actually puts teams together that are similar skill. If you drop you drop down to another skill level. At the moment and before CBMM was reintroduced it’s still 1 or 2 diamonds, a few platinum or golds and then a few silver or bronze players thrown in the same game. This means thee will always be people getting smacked match after match and people shredding. The only time this doesn’t work is for 6 man premade teams. The matchmaking is the reason you are getting used as fodder and your poor experience not because of your skill level.

11 RepliesEdited by A_mo: 7/9/2020 6:01:29 PMFirst of all 50k hours is almost 6 years... Unfortunately with the way the game is designed giving you the kind of matches that you are demanding causes serious issues in terms of quality and playability for other players. As long as D2 is going to be on P2P servers and have a relatively low population it is far more unfair to cause some people to have to play a broken game just so you can face players that meet your approval. Just going to try to ignore most of the stuff about people being elitist scum and just say that the people who had it the worst under SBMM weren't the streamers and streamer level players. It was the average to above average that got the short end of the stick in terms of quality. Probably the most diverse category of people who play this game was getting an unacceptably shitty experience just to appease people like you who seem to be filled with hatred of the fact that some people want PvP to be something where you can improve over time instead of having the game spit out the same predictable outcomes ad nauseum until the end of eternity based on stats from when the game first came out or some kind of other unsustainable tomfoolery. Destiny PvP got kneecapped by SBMM and ultimately didn't end up being as big or engaging as it could have been just to appeal to the kind of people who come on here to demand a curated experience and belittle people for liking the game. Why these people were ever treated like the end all be all of PvP I will never understand.

5 RepliesWhen you complain about toxicity you should try do it in a less toxic manner. You’re just as selfish as everyone else who has an opinion on SBMM v CBMM. We all primarily care about our own circumstances. You’re no different. You don’t care that SBMM punishes players who are more dedicated and put in the time to get better at the game, by drastically limiting their player pool, increasing the likelihood of laggy lobbies, and turning every match for them into the MLG world finals. CBMM right now gives me better, faster lobbies, sometimes against people much better than me, sometimes against people much worse. I don’t care who I play, I just want a solid connection. SBMM didn’t always give me that. There’s a middle ground somewhere in all of this that we need to find, a place for new and lower skilled players to practice and learn, a place for competition and a place that puts everyone together on the basis of quality connection first. If Bungie can cover all these basis then everyone can get something out of it. We need to stop fighting over which end of the playerbase is going to be stuck having a terrible time and start finding solutions to help everyone have a decent time

Thank goodness man maybe I’ll have decent teammates now 🙏

2 RepliesStop comparing a video game to professional sports. No, a crucible game is not the same as a real-life boxing match. If you want to participate in boxing, you need to find a league, register, train, and go through brackets to move up. Crucible is pick up and play, a free-for-all. Video games should ALWAYS prioritize connection before balance. If you're terrible and don't want to try and improve, then no, you don't deserve to win. In fact, there's nothing you "deserve" at all. There's no such thing as entitlement in a video game. "But I played better with sbmm"; no you didn't, you played just as bad, except you were playing against equally bad players. You just want the illusion that you're playing good.

11 RepliesYou have the same opportunity to win in this game as anyone else. It's not the game's job to make that happen. Once you put in the time to learn the maps, weapon strengths, class strengths and other factors, you will begin to win. It's a learning process that every single player goes through when they first start playing a new game. If you are expecting to hop into a new game and instantly start winning, I don't know what to tell you.

4 RepliesThis has to be bait You have a 1.14 kd and are on the top 19% So chances are that in the opposite team none of the players will be above your skill or you might find 1 every 2 games. And for you to find a top tier player you will need to play 10-15 games, of course I am not taking into account active population vs skill but the vast majority will still be below your skill gap. Your w/l ratio its about 50% so you do win games as well. I really dont know where you get that feedback where you said "its your fault you lost" I have never received such feedback, maybe this is all what you think they think? Why dont just forget win and losses, enjoy learning and playing it, when you face a better player try to learn from him or just ack that he did a good play... and move on. Honestly, dont take it personally, just play the game and try to have a good time, if you can't because you hate losing then only two option, dont play it or practice and become a better player, if you dont see yourself putting enough time to do the latter then seriously, take a break, some people cannot stand losing. Said this if you were on SBMM you will face pretty much the same type of player, just less players below your average so SBMM will or should actually pair you against, on average, better players so you should struggle more.
