I ran three strikes and three gambit matches yesterday on my hunter to get pinnacle gear. I got Timelines' Vertex. Both times. Today I ran three strikes with my Warlock. I got.... wait for it.... yep. My third consecutive pinacle copy of Timelines' Vertex.
Bad luck? Ah, no. Even if there were only five weapons in my loot pool the odds of getting the same one three times in a row is only 4%. If there are ten weapons in my loot pool the odds of dropping the same one three times in a row is 1%.
And, by the way, these are not the only three copies of Timelines' Vertex I've dropped in the past few weeks. A weapon that I have never used, never been killed by in PvP, and never seen anyone use in a raid. I bet Bungie is not going to sun-set this one.
Bungie, what the hell are you doing??

1 ReplyI suspect a big part of the issue is that we see it as 8 spots for gear, but I bet the algorithm first chooses between weapon or armor, then picks after that. I suspect Bungie did this because they thought that just picking randomly from the loot pool wouldn't be fair if there were a lot more weapons than armor (or vice/versa), and because they didn't think to do the logical thing: pick slot randomly, then pick randomly from all loot that fits that slot. I'd settle for any item that is supposed to increase your light has to drop in a slot where it gives an increase.
