Here’s my situation. I need boots and a cloak on my hunter in order to achieve 1060 true Power. My Warlock needs a helmet. At this point - after hours and four weeks now of grinding powerfuls and pinnacles - I am literally at the mercy of RNG in order to hit max power.
This is a joke.
Power in and of itself is a meaningless number that does nothing but force us to run activities we have been running for years whenever they up the cap every few months in order to run new content.
THIS. IS. HORRENDOUS.
Bungie. Did you not learn way back during D1 OG VoG days and forever 29? Why are you taking my ability to level out of my hands and forcing me to hope for a good drop to hit max Pinnacle Cap? Why is Power still a meaningless number that you keep increasing to create artificial grind? WHY, in this action RPG, does my level mean NOTHING in the grand scheme of things??
I don’t feel more powerful as I climb in power. Ever. And I never have. At this point it’s just a number that pushes me to run boring activities so that I can efficiently run new content.
This is not fun. It feels bad. Please, PLEASE fix this in Beyond Light.
Thank you for reading.
Edit: Thank you all for the replies. A lot of people asking why I want to hit Pinnacle Max if Power is meaningless as I say. Honestly - I enjoy Min - Maxing in games like this. Pinnacle Cap is an achievement that I would like to hit and the path to that cap is not fun. It’s complete RNG which is very bad. Leveling should be completely in the hands of the player and not at the mercy of a slot machine type of system.
And to those telling me that I offered no solution - here is one - remove Pinnacle Cap, go back to how it was in D1 where you could gain power by simply playing the game and collecting engrams, and create more difficult endgame activities to compensate for the more lax power grind.
On a larger scale, however, they should borrow from how The Division 2 does their leveling after hitting level cap(SHD Level) and give us small bonuses for ever level of power we have achieved(think Borderlands Badass Rank or Elder Scrolls Online Champion Points). Or something similar. Create true meaning for that power number. Make us feel more powerful as the number gets bigger, albeit in small bonuses that cumulate over time.
That being said - I will no longer respond to people, especially those attempting to tell me how I should feel about my own personal gameplay experience. To me, the current Power Level system feels bad. That’s my experience and I won’t apologize for it. I appreciate everyone’s opinion, but when it comes to trying to tell me how to feel, that’s a no go. Thank you again for how large this post has become and please be kind to each other! Happy 4th of July!

It took me 6 months trying to get a 310 ghost.
