Please eliminate at least HALF of the in game currency. As of this writing I have over 12 different types of currency that serve the exact same purpose. To increase the light level of gear.
The redundant and bloated currency system is completely pointless. For example, it is not necessary to have a different type of planetary currency for each destination. In fact planetary currency is nothing more than a nuisance right now.
It is also pointless to have currency trade into the next form. For example enhancement cores into masterwork cores …. We’re not running a stock or currency exchange ….
Use one type of currency. For example, legendary shards can be the one chosen. Make it much less common, it is not necessary for junk currency to drop from sharded junk gear. And use the one currency type for infusion.
In anticipation of this change give players the chance to trade in all their other currency and if a preexisting currency will be used as the new standard you will have to decrease the amount currently held by players, or give players the chance to use up their preexisting horde of currency.
Edit to add specifics:
1.
Glimmer does not gate anything and is at best a nuisance. Glimmer should be removed, or top end currency removed to make glimmer relevant.
Glimmer is ubiquitous enough that you don’t run out of it for upgrades and at worse you are forced to take a 10 min round trip to Spider to remedy any deficits. Glimmer does nothing other than to annoy and harass.
As far as bounties are concerned the amount of glimmer is so trivial that bounties should be free to pick up. There’s no reason to pay to pick up bounties. Even the 3k bounties. If someone wants to go crazy to increase their artifact’s light and have it reset at the end of a season. That’s their business. It hurts no one.
2.
Get rid of all the planetary currency. Even if the vendors have something interesting, a universal currency can work.
3.
Legendary shards, enhancement cores, upgrade modules, prisms and ascendant shards.
I try to avoid hyperbole and communicate with respect, but in common parlance, WTF?
It is absurd that there are so many unnecessary stratified layers to infusion. The layers are pointless when one currency is traded in for the next.
You only need ONE currency for this purpose. Call it whatever you want. For this example call it a widget.
Widgets should drop with less frequency than shards and cores, but with much greater frequency than modules, prisms and shards.
As we upgrade our gear levels 1 - 4 can cost 1 widget, 5 - 8 three widgets and 9 -10 can cost 5 widgets.
Obviously my widget example is for illustration purposes only. Use whatever widget scale you want based on whatever drop frequency you determine, but use ONE unified currency for upgrading.
I don’t feel any richer or any more accomplished with more currency. It feels like I’m carrying a sack of trash since most of the currency is ubiquitous enough that I never even have to look at the amount I have.

2 RepliesThe only currency we need is Mine shards. Wanna guess where you get it from?! Dismantling mines! Kinds Regards SYLOK THE DEFILED Thirsts For Your Light

bungie has been culling it, by making most of the currencies effectively worthless the only real currency of any value now is enhancement cores/prisms/shards and silver bungie continuously devalues older currencies so that nobody can take advantage of a large saved stash to shortcut future grinds. Of course this design decision provides no player value whatsoever, just dev value to keep us on the hamster wheel by retroactively removing the value of our earned rewards

11 RepliesEdited by Doctor_Roidberg: 7/4/2020 6:16:43 PMBungie in D2 Year 1: We’ve removed random rolls on weapons and customizable subclasses in order to make the game more streamlined. Bungie in D2 Year 3: We have lost all control of the game economy. D1 Glimmer cap was 25,000, D2 is now 250,000. Legendary Marks were capped at 200, some D2 players have 2,000+ legendary shards. Upgrades require so many planetary materials it is no longer feasible to actually go farm them from the planet they come from, instead go play shopping simulator with the big fat Fallen, who doesn’t have a click to buy option like our significantly older title Destiny 1, so you’ll be on the Tangled Shore for a freakin hour just buying planetary materials. We have the FIRST EVER exotic currency, three of which are required to fully upgrade Exotic armor, but you can only hold ten at a time. Players gave us crap for a FULL YEAR about our terrible decision to put cores into infusion, but rather than just take them out we just plugged our ears and renamed them “Upgrade Modules” that still cost cores and of which you can only have 25 at a time. But customizable subclasses are too hard.

8 RepliesJust put cores, shards, and prisms in the wild. Yellow bars = 1% drop rate of prisms, 5% drop rate of shards, and 15% chance of cores They shouldn't be confined to nightfalls and trials IMO

1 ReplyEdited by Yosemite Sam: 7/5/2020 3:30:22 PMJust about everything in this game has been calculated, currency, modes, stats, the artifact, bounties, The cost for certain items, loot drop, etc. IMO things that were way over calculated making things more complicated then they needed to be. A long story short, this company really needed to learn a few things that are an issue when it comes to a player's time spent playing this game that they haven't learned and it shows. True true..Vanilla D1 had it best..vanguard tokens and crucible tokens and strange coins for xur..with a max of 200 each back in those days..everything was better and simpler back then.

Bring back the reputations system from D1 and you eliminate the need for currency to be used for rank-ups
-
I agree but bungie does this all the time. they develop a currency, then decide they need a new currency thats harder to get. Everyone complains so they make it easier to get, then they make a new currency thats hard to get to replace the previous currency. After a few cycles, bungie agrees theres too many currencies and slims it down but makes it harder to get some of the remaining currencies, and the cycle continues. it was this way in D1 and returned in D2, and if they didnt scrap D3 it would have appeared in D3.

The issue is that there can't be a way that older players can collect enough resources that they can just dump them all to upgrade new gear. If players could store more than 10 Ascendant Shards, they would be able to masterwork multiple sets of armor for each character whenever a new season started. Bungie has Ascendant Shards as a separate currency so they can limit the amount a player can store. Because of this, at least some of the "extra" currencies will always be there. Upgrade Modules need to be trashed, since you can buy them for essentially an Enhancement Core, so the 25 limit has no real effect. Enhancement Prisms also likely need to be trashed. Planetary currencies would be fine if rank-up rewards weren't RNG, just like every other drop. There's no reason to rank up at vendors, because the rewards are the same thing you get from playing the game. A universal currency is not a good idea, though, as a player could play in an "easy" area and then spend the currency in a "hard" area. Black Armory currencies should be trashed, since there are already limits on how much you can buy per week. Weapon Telemetries and anything related to them should be completely removed from the game.

On top of all the points brought up here, the stack limit on certain items is completely unnecessary. 25 upgrade modules maximum only serves to waste time as once I use 25, I’ll just go purchase another set of 25. I have literally 2k of each planetary material and 1k cores. Resources aren’t stopping me and the stack size on those are much larger so why is there actually a limit on stack size

Imagine coming into Destiny 2 at this point and just thinking WTF is all this???

Hello! Apologies if this sounds a little silly, but isn't Mercury, Mars, Io and Titan due for vaulting? That would mean half the answer to your post....No need for Simulation Seeds,Seraphites, Phaseglass Needles & Alkane Dust. Then Leviathan and the Tribute Hall are going as well.....So no more runes, opulence bounties etc from Benedict-44. That would, in my mind mathematically halve the planetary currency demand/supply chain (or something like half anyway). To me, it means less time doing chores like farming materials across the Solar System and actually playing more D2, and building my characters. Am I off the mark? I know it's a simplistic perspective however the idea of less work and more fun appeals to me....especially for a game I've paid for! Cheers mate!

I'm considering on making a thread addressing this myself, though I'd go into more details about specific currencies.

So you want easier infusion. Ok, we’ll block you from infusing your favorite guns so that way you won’t have to worry about running short in materials. -Bungie

6 RepliesOh god what have you done. Don't you know every time someone complains about this they add another layer to infusion? Get ready for it. "We hear you, in response you can now do a bounty to earn prisms, and there will be a new and improved way to masterwork gear! It's called orb of lightness and you can earn them by combining 3 ascendant shards."
-
I've always maintained that Enhancement Prisms and Ascendant Shards were some of the most senseless choices made for this game. I mean, if they wanted Masterworking to be such a pinnacle achievement, they could have just lessened the drop rate of Enhancement Cores outside of Ordeals and been done with it. Instead they added a currency exchange. I mean, I'm currently sitting on about 460 Cores, 20~ Prisms, and about 15 Ascendants currently. That's like, 1500 Cores worth in Ascendant Shards alone. Not to mention it's kind of pointless to bother with Masterworking anymore due to Sunsetting and I've been a supporter of the concept since it was mentioned. As a sunsetting supporter, Masterworking is just an incompatible concept that needs to be abandoned if we're going that direction.

Currencies are designed to either waste time and/or frustrate us into buying something to make us feel rewarded faster. Just look at mobile games. Destiny 2 is now basically a mobile style console game. It wants both your time and money. The gameplay is secondary.
