I am a filthy casual. I like Vanguard Strikes, Gambit Prime, Iron Banner, and sometimes I will play Control and or Mayhem.
I used to frequently get over 1.0 ratio in crucible, usually higher, and very very seldomly below that, like a 0.95 sometimes.
I have played about 8 Iron Banner matches. I have not once gotten over 1.0, and have gotten as low as 0.25.
This isn't fun for me anymore. I am constantly dying. I am going to attempt to get this weeks Iron Banner in, and I can't see me doing crucible anymore after that.
Whatever Bungie did to PVP, it is not fun.

4 RepliesEdited by Smough: 7/4/2020 8:05:59 PMAs if it was ever fun to begin with? Pvp has always been terrible, it should just be removed so bungie can put more focus on pve. Unless bungie miraculously finds a way to make pvp enjoyable, which is unlikely considering that haven’t been able to do so for more than 5 years.

7 RepliesYour feelings are the same for many. Get your pinnacles, level up your character, & cash in your tokens to compete your armour set. Breathe a long sigh of relief that you’re now done with the IB. It simply isn’t fun with CBMM enabled for the majority of players. The minority PVP tryhards will say otherwise but every player like me that is average-below average feels that CBMM needs to go.

1 ReplyThis will be the First Season that I will not set foot in Iron Banner since D1.

1 ReplyI agree 100%, I wish they would make a version for kids and pros who don’t have jobs and life’s and another for people that want to relax after a twelve hour day and have some fun. I am going from one game that’s half done because people are getting murdered and leaving to mid game of another that is the same way.. I guess I need to find a different game that doesn’t only cater to the teenagers that have all day to sit around playing. I have a nephew that plays quite well with the upper levels and loves the new format as he can easily get 50+ kills.

Same here. My dad and I are both tired of this crap. AT LEAST remove light level advantage so fights are SOMEWHAT fair.

7 RepliesEdited by A485258: 7/1/2020 4:35:09 PMTo the people saying that the OP gets to grow as a player, has to get better, or that match making is faster, I say this. I am above average, but CBMM is still problematic for me. Last night I played 10 IB matches, my KD across 10 matches was 1.85. But I lost 8/10 matches. I had to play balls to the walls to survive because my teammates were way out of their depth, they had no reason to be in those lobbies with me and I had no chance winning with them. It was not fun losing over and over again because my teammates couldn’t hang. The match making was awful. Because my teams kept getting rolled, I would have to repeatedly queue all over again, which made for longer load times. And when I did get into matches I would often be in short handed teams or loaded into matches where my team was already 30 points down. Again, my KD despite these circumstances, across 10 games, was 1.85. I know what I’m doing, but without some form of SBMM, I’m repeatedly put into teams that have no hope of winning. In the two games I won my KDs were 3.6 and 6.5. I should get to win a few games and have more tokens without having to have a 3+ KD. SBMM and CBMM shouldn’t be all or nothing. There needs to be some middle ground where SBMM is turned on, but the search parameters wide enough to pull in a large range of players while creating some semblance of even teams.

Edited by Sergent_Saunders: 7/3/2020 5:50:45 PM🤔 I think the so called sweats use mods down loaded from Data sticks. Moded Controllers and whatever cheat they can get away with. I have seen them running super fast. Jumping as high as the buildings are tall. I saw this one dude materialize from the sky and started blasting away with heavy! Firing weapons super fast beyond the the wespons fire rate. Aim botting and other Magical BS! Now you can tell who has true skill and who is engaging in Magical BS!

Edited by tenteisai: 7/3/2020 4:49:57 PMOh no man you dare want balance in PVP? Get gud kid. They won't change it back too many cry babies on Twitch and YouTube man. I agree played yesterday just to get the pinnacles and then quit I used to play Iron banner and PVP at least couple times a week the only reason I've touched crucible this week is Iron banner to get the hand canon and auto rifle that's it haven't touched PVP since the start of the season cause, I used to do the bounties every week but not now it's not fun getting steam rolled match after match just to appease try hards and sweat lords and streamers. Two 10 matches in a row in Iron banner my team was blown out and people just left that's all this bullshit CBMM garbage will lead to more and more people who quit before the match is over more and more dropped into matches almost over and unbalanced lobbies all so some no life PVP junkie trying to get a dopamine fix can be on the leader board and not have to try. Now that I have the iron banner quest finished I won't touch crucible again until the next iron banner and then it will just be to finished the quest and be done at least with SBMM I could play and have a ok time but now it's just ass hats looking to show how awesome they are in a game cause their real life sucks.

4 RepliesEven in a cbmm environment there needs to be team balancing of some kind. I ran my banner quest, all bounties then played some additional pvp across banner and qp. It's definitely broken, I went just over a 7.0kd(not efficiency) in the last 25 matches at 525 kills vs 75 deaths. Managed about 7/8 we Rans, even a few in banner. Lost all three we ran matches I got in banner too. Keep in mind, I solo queued only, even within banner. Team balancing needs to be a thing. While I enjoy putting up big numbers, I can't help but feel bad for others and it doesn't help me have fun, close matches.

It's the "I just want to chill in pvp and not have to sweat with the meta" statement that annoys me. I never get destroyed by good players using a scout and an smg. People just use the meta and enjoy stomping with it, I just wish they would be more honest 🤷♂️

You are not alone, I loved control and Iron Banner with the occasional Survival or Rumble thrown into the mix. It seems like Bungie took out skill based match making and I no longer enjoy pvp, I die constantly and I can't finish any of my pvp quests in any form of timely manner if at all. Bungie needs to fix it.

53 RepliesWelcome to CBMM, where the good players pad their stats using you as bait. You aren't alone and ignore the people who try to bully or shame you.

2 RepliesEdited by Ming Li: 7/2/2020 10:04:49 PMDon't be ashamed because you are a casual player. I'm 52 with a career and family. I get to play a couple hours a night maybe 3 nights a week if I'm lucky. I see some replies saying something like It's your own fault for not practicing and getting better. Well, I'm over the hill and have limited time and what little skill I had is deteriorating. I've been playing online with Bungie since Halo 2 with two friends with whom I still play today. Crucible was part of our weekly routine until they got rid of the skill based matchmaking. It just wasn't fun getting stomped on. Iron Banner was our last bastion of Crucible fun where we could actually compete in PvP. Every once in a while one of us geezers would even get to be "the guy" in a match. Having just that opportunity makes it fun. Now that opportunity is gone. I've been getting destroyed in Iron Banner and I have not noticed any difference in wait times for games or lag. I have noticed how not fun it is. Maybe the point is to weed out the geezers or maybe Bungie doesn't have the population it needs for skill based matchmaking anymore. I wish they would make their rationale for eliminating SBMM more clear. I don't know if anyone at Bungie will read this, I hope they do. If so, please re-institute skill based matchmaking. If you don't, please let us know why. As a long time fan and customer I would appreciate it.

1 ReplyCall me what you will, but I consider myself a casual gamer for the most part, and I enjoy the way PvP is now, even when I do put myself at a disadvantage. I just hate in iron banner everyone is pretty much inclined to use auto rifles and or sidearms, though the issue is circumstantial as I was trying to finish a quest to get Thorn.

Maybe next season they will make a change to pvp but I wouldnt count on it!

Don’t let it get you down. If you’re struggling with PvP right now I’m willing to bet there’s a lot of things that you’re doing wrong that could be corrected with a bit of learning and practice. For me, PvP has a lot more longevity than PvE, particularly cause it’s infinitely more satisfying to take out another thinking, breathing guardian than a mindless predictable minion of the darkness. If you want to improve, you got to invest time to learning some PvP fundamentals and practicing them over and over until they become second nature. These skills are transferable to other FPS multiplayer games too. Ascendant Nomad and Coolguy on YouTube are good places to start, but also check out some other players like True Vanguard or Aztecross and watch how they play, particularly how they move around a map. Try applying some of their good habits to your own gameplay and I promise you will start to see steady progression.

I'll copy my reply from another similar thread. That's how most average players are feeling now. Somehow it's not ok for them to have fun and chill in sbmm but is ok for high level players to be able to chill in cbmm. Yes. For average players sbmm was a more fun and chill experience.
-
Wow. Would you look at that! People don't enjoy being cannon-fodder, and stops playing when that keeps happening! Who'da thunk that!!

1 Reply100% this. IB without SBMM is not fun for casual / most players. I've managed 12 games and they're all dominated by 2 or 3 players. The rest of us are getting smashed. Meaning the majority (9 or 10) of us aren't enjoying the experience. I used to really enjoy IB and played even when my bounties where finished. I can't see me bothering this time to finish any bounties. Players in glowing trials armour shouldn't be in my lobby because if they are I can't effect the game no matter how hard I try.
-
2 RepliesI wouldn’t call yourself a casual. You just enjoy the power theme in the lower tier activities. Since they ruined it in the end game. I’m the exact same. I’m here to smash, not sweat.

Edited by Ogma: Destroyer of Worlds: 7/2/2020 10:12:00 PMIt never really has been for many players. The idea of it being legitimately competitive outside of comp/Trials is laughable because it’s just a bunch of people running around completing individual pursuits despite being on a team where the intention is to win. Someone should be equipping what they are best with to help the team win. That’s it. Not some random gear/class because of an arbitrary pursuit. It has never made any sense. Those are fundamentally opposing things. If they insist on locking loot/limiting progression behind PvP participation, outside of something like Trials, it should just be a large open map with drop in/drop out and no victory conditions. As someone who only plays when required, I can assure you that I complete what I want and then I’m out. Even if it means leaving mid match. If I get some pursuit to 98%, I’m not playing an entire match just to finish it because I didn’t want to be there in the first place. Both in Crucible and Gambit. I don’t care. Their current model breeds polarization among the community and keeps the game’s PvP an unbalanced mess that is the opposite of what team competition is. It makes no sense. Never has. Never will.

116 RepliesEdited by sKiZoMoNki: 7/2/2020 8:27:18 PMI'm so tired of casual players ("Casual" is not the time you spend in the crucible but the unwillingness to improve) coming to the forums and complaining that they are exposed to the "real world" instead of the "safe space" Bungie comforted them in. This "entitlement culture" is what is killing modern PvP games. You can't demand to be able to do ANYTHING without practice. "Git gud", mate and practice. Just play competitive, Elimination and you'll feel good about yourself again. These modes are sbmm. EDIT: To all the "Einsteins" that don't get a simple analogy: "Real-world" implies the unfiltered experience inside the game. It DOES NOT mean the physical world. LOL! And before whining be sure to have at least 50 hours of PvP under your belt or you're just another "Man-Karen" demanding to speak to the manager. He's not in today he's busy ordering more participation trophies.
