Story behind raid Bosses

As I was clearing the Prophecy dungeon I was thinking who is this Taken boss, why are we killing her other than she is in front of us? As I looked back to other end game bosses in D2 this thought could be applied to many of them. I know if I hunted down lore pieces and read them I could find some reasons but I want to know in game why are doing these boss fights. Maybe I'm not paying attention enough though, anyone else had this feeling?

    Prophecy Dungeon:
In the Prophecy Dungeon we fight an Echo of a Fallen Kell. We have no information on the Kell Echo. We don’t know its name, its gender, backstory, etc. It isn’t clear if the enemies in Prophecy are actual Taken or just effigies created by the Nine in their realm as tools to test us and interact with us. Considering that its title is Echo and that it would be strange for the Taken to somehow be invading the Nine’s Realm, it is most likely an effigy, like Oryx’s Echoes or Osiris’s Reflections or the Vex simulations in the Infinite Forest. If it is a real Taken Kell then it is a puppet that wants nothing but to consume the Light and kill us, so we have every reason to kill it. If it is a real Taken then naturally it would have some backstory from before it was Taken, but that’s all a mystery and irrelevant in this situation. If it is an effigy made by the Nine then it is nothing more than their tool and has only ever existed in their realm and has no backstory because it only exists to interact with us in Prophecy, and our only reason to kill it is because it is trying to kill us because the Nine made it for that. Either way the Nine are using all of Prophecy (enemies, locations, light, shadow, etc.) to interact with us and communicate in a cryptic way.
Okay, all the Raids and Dungeons is a lot to cover so I’ll keep this brief. The other endgame bosses have their stories, though Destiny 2 is half-and-half with some bosses that have plenty of lore and others that have almost none. Other Raids and Dungeons:
Calus and the Leviathan of course are the main focus of most of these, and we have the full history on Calus in lore. In the first Raid we fought Calus’s forces for his amusement. The following two Raid bosses have very little lore, but we understand that the Vex Mind was one of the principal Minds on Nessus and it was stopping the Leviathan from consuming Nessus. We killed both of them for Calus because they were threats to the Leviathan. In the Dreaming City’s Raid and Dungeon we are handling the Taken infestation. We know Riven’s full history from when Uldren found her to her betrayal and corruption of the Dreaming City. We also have the full story on the Taken infestation. Riven was a threat and manipulator being used by Savathûn, and needed to be killed, though killing Riven actually triggered the Curse on the Dreaming City. In the Scourge of the Past Raid we battle the Kell’s Scourge, a group of Fallen who are raiding Golden Age weapon forges to make dangerous upgrades to their arsenal. Naturally they needed to be stopped. In the Menagerie we help Calus again, cleaning out a Hive infestation thanks to one of Savathûn’s tricks. In the Garden of Salvation Raid we stop the Vex in the Black Garden again with very little explanation.
Aren’t the sanctified and consecrated minds pretty much the Sol Progeny 2.0?

  • <Many bosses, such as Calus or Riven, have a lot of lore to them. The only final raid bosses who have no story behind them are the Sanctified Mind and Argos. But Argos's title of "Planetary Core" give a pretty good hint. Though I do wish these things were more clearly explained.>
