AFK farming is a message to Bungie

This is a message from the player base to Bungie. They want to play the new content when it comes out. They want to play the dungeon and heroic Contact. That requires a higher light level. Can you really blame them for not wanting do the same old boring dull grind that we've done for YEARS? I sure don't. It's a mistake to gate new content, like the dungeon, behind power levels. Power progression is not interesting and it's NOT rewarding. Long time players get no satisfaction at all from leveling up. It's a chore, not a feature. When a new season opens up, the last thing I want to do is play Gambit, Flashpoints, and any of the usual suspects that I had done forever to level up.

  • I enjoy the levelling what i don't enjoy is the constant grind for bounties week in week out its -blam!-ing mind blowingly boring.

    They've just patched it. Those that cried have gotten their wish. Shame really, I was of the thinking that dropping below 750 was fair on the rest of the player base. Been ruined by the inconsiderate not doing that

      • With the patch to farming i no longer see a need to be polite and stay at the 750 area of matchmaking time to invade higher power areas so i dont have to look at my screen as much and who knows if a umbral engram drops from a enemy it will go to my postmaster. I see this as a what im doin now

        • All they have to do is release tiered versions of things like this. Have a lower version that does NOT award powerful gear and a higher version that does. They could do that with other activities too.... Is it REALLY a surprise that people want to play new content as soon as it comes out? Especially in a game that requires replaying the same content a lot in the first place? No. No it is not.

            [b]I believe that forges AFK has already been patched.[/b] Now it's the Bergusia forge (was Izanami a few hours before) and it's not giving any engrams or materials [b]AND[/b] sends you to orbit without re-queue. That's what's always happening to me after several tries, anyway.

            • The message is that grinding for hours to earn 1 light level was never fun. The loudest voices who called for that sort of grind (which vanilla D2 fixed) did not represent the majority of players. P.S. who remembers the loot cave?

Another "you had to be there" event has passed (unless maybe you are on PC and can use a macro) Bungie Help @BungieHelp · 9m We have implemented a change where players now return to orbit after completing the Forge activity. Players will need to re-enter the queue if they wish to enter the activity again.

If you aren’t going to be patient and put in the work then you are missing the point of destiny. It’s pathetic to see the majority of the community getting behind this.

                    • This is what happens when the core activities are completely abandoned for a year at a time. It's not going to be any different come September either as they're clearly not adding much to the powerful reward sites, in fact I think we'll have less content overall. There's no way we're getting 8 strikes to replace the ones we're losing, Gambit is going to be one mode and crucible never gets any love.

                    • I’m not one to stick up for Bungie, but we all need to be realistic. The content should takes as long to complete as it took to build or else we’ll all suffer content drought and complain. Content conceptualized, modeled, debugged, and ready for us to play so that everyone has some semblance of fairness when reaching the pinnacle does not happen every 3-4 months without a ton of work. Especially at the level we expect it, non-stop for all these years. Grind is the necessary evil to help stretch out the content that can created within a time period so there are no content droughts and we all feel like we got our money’s worth. This afk farming is not any different from the loot cave - people taking every advantage they can to get ahead. It has nothing to do with an error on Bungies part for bad content. For Gods sake they are all working out of there homes now. Yeah we all would like more story/less grind, but until the tech is here to build game that fast with all that we expect, grind will always be there. Not Bungie’s decision really, just a necessary evil. Grind can be good if what we see is more randomized - IDEA, have us explore the hull of an abandoned ship in the reef, make the encounters with enemy random, make it dark and creepy, not wide open spaces we’re used to but smaller, makes things jump out at us, make it dark like the pit, have us discover random lore that describes what the awoken or crews final weeks were like and what happened to them...loot would be the new weapons/armor for that season and we would grind AND get storyline....those that want loot would play, those that want story would play to find out what happened to the crew....maybe even make 2 new lore items available each week....TAKE IT BUNGIE.....RUN WITH IT. LOL

                      • To all the AFK haters. It's called working smarter not harder. The only new thing is the dungeon and it's here for 3 months. I'm tired of doing the same raids, strikes and gambit that we have been doing for the past year almost. I think we should get a new strike per season. That is not an unreasonable request.

                        • A poorly designed season model with poorly designed content leads to lack of interest by the players. If the content was fun, designed well and rewarded well, this wouldn’t be near the issue it has become. A certain percentage of the player will always cheese but the current horrid state of D2 has made an astronomical more amount of players cheese it. Let’s just all admit D2 isn’t in a good place now. D2 peaked with Foresaken it’s all down hill for the foreseeable future.

                        • I honestly don't blame the other players. I'm doing it too. I do it because I want to do the new content and it's difficult for a player like me that has a full-time job and a girlfriend. So to speed up the process I have to AFK to do it. It's convenient for me since I work and spend most of my time away from home. I think to solve this problem. Bungie shouldn't keep increasing the power every freaking season. Because in a way we have to start all over again and for what? To do the same thing we've been doing for years and not be respected for our time spent into the game. I hope that year 4 changes things around sooner rather than later.

                          None of what they're doing is a mistake. If you look at the feedback given to them over the years and the decisions they have made, it's in plain sight that they are set in their ways. Now correct me if I'm wrong but is PC going to be cross-play with console? That right there should tell anyone this company doesn't care because that's not a mistake, that is a disaster being set up to happen. Edit: So it's cross-play between counsels witch is a good thing.

                          • I can somewhat agree, but also disagree. To me, this new dungeon is an end game activity for the season. It doesn't make sense for all of us to jump right in right after it drops. I'm sure you can agree when a new raid drops, you don't just jump right in unless you are ready for it. However, I do agree that there should be something more interesting for us to grind to get to the new end game content. I'm also only calling the dungeon "end game" content because we don't have a raid. The dungeon is literally the pinnacle to this season so far.

                                The gate for doing the dungeon was ridiculous. It would take me 6 weeks to get to 1040. I be there are others that would take as long as well.
