Seriously. I'm doing the last invitation of the nine and it requires pvp stuff, so I figured I'd chip away at randy's throwing knife and my god. You get 4 tapped with a hand cannon when you can't even hit an enemy while they shoot you in the head strafing. Jade Rabbit is meh, it shoots far too slow and these maps don't even give you long sightlines to use it in.
I tried using skyburners but the projectiles are so goddamn slow even when you ADS it's not even worth using. The tracking on it literally does nothing unless your crosshair is on them and at that point why even hipfire? It barely hits anyone even hip-firing at point blank anyway.
Edit: It took me like 5-6 hours but I finally did it.

Use mida, long or close range it's good. Hipfire isn't bad either

1 ReplyMap design is a big problem, but also stability. No 150 scout has above 40 stability which is a big problem imo
-
Bungie made them that way on purpose to try to force people to play more aggressively. Its kind of dumb, imo.
-
2 RepliesI like the mida multi tool quick shooting fast reload only negativ is the katalysom you only can optain in crucibel on rank legend of the 3 v 3 mode 😪😢
-
Technically, they're not. A 150 scout can out-duel a Spare Rations in the right circumstance. The issue is map size and ease-of-use for sniper rifles. They do what scouts do, only better.

1 ReplyEdited by Smough: 6/13/2020 11:17:43 AMWhy? Most maps are small to medium sized, with very few places for the range of scouts to make any difference. Most shorter range weapons will kill faster than scouts, and you can use them effectively all of the time on every single map without having to worry about long range engagements. Scouts barely flinch. This mainly matters when going against other longer range weapons like pulses and snipers. If you hit someone with a scout it’s hardly going to flinch them, meaning that they will likely be able to get shots off that will make you flinch a lot more, and in the case of a sniper they’ll easily headshot you making long range effectively dangerous for scouts. Basically scouts are useless at range unless there are no snipers or you’re in a position where even longer range pulses won’t hit very hard, which is an extremely rare scenario. Scouts also get flinched, probably more than any other weapon in the game. This might just be a me thing, but whenever I get shot when using a scout I get flinched so much that I find it difficult to get back on target. It’s almost like scouts receive the same flinch as snipers, but unlike snipers they don’t flinch towards the head. This combined with scouts not flinching other players results in many lost gunfights. All these things combined lead to scouts being bad in pvp. You can’t use them long range because snipers and sometimes even pulses are more effective. You can’t use them close range because other guns will have a faster and easier to achieve ttk. So where do you use them? Mod range where any other primary is more effective? It’s almost pathetic how useless scouts are. Under the right circumstances they can be decent, but chances are those circumstances won’t happen often and using literally anything else would be more efficient. Scouts used to be good in d1, and were my favorite weapon type to bring into pvp. I don’t know what happened between then and now, but bungie needs to do something about it.

1 ReplyMap design is the main problem, only a couple I can think of (equinox, Vostok, maybe midtown) where their range actually gives them an advantage. One hit kill low flinch high aim assist snipers don’t help their case either. Sky burners oath is like the worst gun in the game too lol, far worse than even blue scouts.

Night Watch is best
-
The Song of Justice scout is seriously one of, if not the worst scout I've ever used. It almost looks like a sniper and has nearly max range, which is cool, but the scopes are suboptimal, the handling and reload is terrible, the kick is insanely bad, the mag options are not great, and since it's a high impact the body shot damage is very unforgiving. I've held onto it for a while now as a meme weapon, but I can't see it ever really being useful, especially since it's only a y1 static roll as of now
-
Mostly the maps are too small for them and the larger maps get dominated by snipers. Between bows, hand cannons, and snipers; there just isn't a place for them in crucible That being said they are great for invaders in gambit, since most maps are open with long sight lines. Also rapid fire and lightweight seem to be the best for gambit/crucible.
-
Auto rifles are the new scouts
-
Map design(for most of them) and player movement speed are why Scout Rifles don't shine very much. And when you do end up on maps with sightlines great for taking advantage of all that range like Radiant Cliffs, Vostok, Equinox, etc., you'll probably get headshotted by a Sniper you've already put 2 crits in because of how flinch works in this game.

1 ReplySmall Maps sizes and gap closure rate.
-
1 Reply150s are the best scouts right now. Same optimal TTK as 150 hand cannons. Maps are the problem. There's almost no long enough ranges at all. There's really almost nowhere you'd need a scout's range / zoom level and so a hand cannon does the same job but is also easier to handle in the close ranges. I don't really see it changing unless bungo implements longer range maps, or drops scout TTKs by a large amount.
-
1 ReplyBecause everyone wanted a crutch-cannon meta, and that's what we got.
-
Bad maps and no benefit to using a scout over anything else
-
I use a Scout Rifle paired with an Auto Rifle most of the time. Learn to keep your distance and pick the right Scout/AR combo. The Scouts I use are Vouchsafe, Randy’s, and Jade Rabbit (Vostok). If you’re trying for Randy’s, use the Exotic Scout with 260 RPM to get it done easier, and don’t be afraid to fight til the finish. By that I mean don’t bail out of a fight too early costing yourself a kill or a trade. Trades count as kills.
-
Nail on the head it boils down to terrible map design. There’s so many close quarter maps and the ported them all from D1. I struggled with that quest too but finally did it. Just had to endure a ton of shotguns and auto rifles
-
2 RepliesTry out a well rolled Black Scorpion or Randy's, they're quite potent. Also 150RPM scouts have the same TTK as 150 Hand cannons, so maybe put in a bunch of time on your favorite 150Scout (Jade Rabbit slaps).
-
Scouts aren’t bad, in fact the Mida is still my most reliable gun when I use it. The problem is I hardly ever get maps suitable for scout rifles. They are all to cramped.
-
Scouts are literally just long handcannons, at least the 150s/180s. The problem is they’re much slower to use than handcannons, and have longer zoom. This doesn’t work well on d2 maps which are very cqc compared to d1 maps
-
Many Reasons. Most important one is that destiny pvp is not a pvp where longer range weapons could be used effectively cause the maps are way to small.( snipers are an exception cause ohk ) It's too much designed for close combat. Other Reasons are flinch and therefore not being able to use their not too bad but just theoretically good TTK. The difference between crit and body damage is also too high in my point of view. Opinions may vary.

1 ReplyEdited by Swiftlock: 6/13/2020 7:48:33 PMBecause of flinch. Not only are anti-flinch mods extremely powerful, but D2 does this thing where flinching an enemy player will actually drag their reticle TOWARDS your face and line up a headshot for them. You can nail a sniper two times in the head with a high-impact HCR scout and he will easily dome you like nothing happened.
-
Really have to go with a longer range support roll with scouts and get your kills through team shooting. Going to lose almost every one on one outside of crazy long range period. Till you get Randy's. Its pretty decent. Jade Rabbit in Momentum Control works best to do the questline if you can wait.
-
Not really. If you are having trouble, try using the multitool.
