So I'm confused about Sunsetting

The new weapons dont introduce any new rolls, so essentially it is the same exact weapon but with a different icon on top left. If the point of sunsetting is to make these weapons go away then reintroduce them. I'm a little confused on why do it again. It's like looking for a god roll twice. Now this makes me think that pinnacle weapons wont return, so if bungie just wants to remove pinnacles. Then freaking remove pinnacles, dont make me regrind the same roles twice. To be honest I think bungie should either not introduce reprised weapons, or not sunset weapons they wanna keep. Unless old weapons can be infused to the reprised weapons max light level.

  • Sadly. From 900k it jumped to 1.44 million players and Bungie has a defense force of fan bois. I love the game too- but I'm highly turned off by how they are going. I tried logging in twice recently only for me to not want to grind. I might as well wait and grind weapons when I'm prepared to be back.

    1. sunset starts in fall, not this season. that includes the new perks, new guns, etc. 2. bungie decided to bring back older weapons with the same overall perks + some new like each season (no overall new perks because thats in fall) and added this season' icon to it instead of let it keep it its original icon (like lonesome having SoA icon instead of the season of drifter icon). 3. if bungie didnt update those ''same weapons'' again, you would literally have even less reason to grind them since in fall they would be useless in endgame. 4. bungie had a choice here. either let you farm the same weapon as usual and lose them in endgame this fall, or update their icon to let you get them again to keep them for another year, while only bringing the fall perks all that with beyond light. it would be delusional to expect a full weapon loot pool update in a 10$ season. 5. those weapons (outside of the new darkness weapons) are world loot weapon (afaik) anyway. you would loot them on the ground at any time but this time you can also focus them to get them more easily without dumping shards to rahool. its a 10$ season, not a full expansion. complain in september if you feel like it, not now. sunset hasnt happen yet. if the cap power level on weapons wasnt visible, nobody wouldve complained the way it is now because nobody wouldve noticed. and just in case you dont know: outlaw, kill clip, etc are still gonna be perks that will be able to roll on weapons. just to make sure nobody complains when they get a outlaw kill clip pulse rifle this fall. the game needs loot hierarchy and its expected to happen this fall. we are still in year 3, before all those changes even exists in game

      • Sunsetting simply made me uninstall the game. How a studio that can make super fun weapons to use can decide to do Sunsetting?

      • I would love to use all my weapons i have . I would like to change gear and make builds . I spend thousend of hours colect those weapons with good rols and spend alot resourses masterwork many of them . I include the time spent to farm for those resourses . Guess what ... i almost never had a chance to use most of them . Why ? Because i never kept up with the light lvl infusions to keep all my weapons up to a curent light lvl for a certain season . So i had to stick with the few realy good weapons because that is wat i can keep up lvl-ing up to speed for a current seasonal activities and raids while i chase the new seasonal weapons and armors . The infusion cost is absurd high . The masterwork cost is also absurd high for weapons and armor . I just gathered a good stats armors for my 3 characters and masterworked it. And lets talk about Gambit prime armor sets for a moment . Why nobody use them in Gambit prime anymore ? Because we have to regrind it all over again in each new expansion and in every new season we have to light lvl infuse it . Agin the resourses and time for lvl-ing up is the problem . last season i regrinded the armors for my warlock (reaper centry colector ) and my titan (invader) and hunter (invader) and i infuse them up to 1000-1010 . And now what ? Can i play with those armor sets this season before i make them up to 1050 at least ? And then what ? What about next season ? I love to play Prime . Maybe many of you dont like it but this is only an example . Lower the cost for ifusions drasticly . Make a universal armor set to grind for stats and from then on make only new ornaments for that armor set and new catalists to chase in activities and raids insted of new sets of armors because we cant ever use the entire set of armor the way you make it if this does not change . Give us more titles to grind for . Make it like those ornament and catalyst have reasonable drop chance so people grind for them . Dont sunset the weapons . We always go after all the weapons you make . We grind for a good rolls for those weapons and use them throughout the season here and there then store them for later use . like i said i love to mix up my weapons but i mostly don't have the chance to do it except in strikes and i would love to do it in all activities . So that was from me . I cant do this any more . I am concidering quiting the game if sunseting take place . I dont like Bungie get rid of destinations we payed for and store them for later use so we pay for them again in the future . Power creap and Disk space is just an excuse to strip more money form us .

      • it is literally killing weapons to force you to extend your playing time needlessly. They are going to try and make you just reget another similar gun. As if you're not gonna still want the meta archtype with a good damage perk. It's fabricated grind.

        • Sunsetting and the Vault is purely just a way for Bungo to recycle content for the future, so they don’t have to actually create new and engaging content. Removing weapons, armour, content etc. just to bring it back is indicative of how messed up Bungo is.

I would've been completely fine with Sunsetting if armor was an exception and instead of reintroducing the weapons we already have at a higher cap, ditch those models all together and give us some new weapons

          • Things haven't actually been sunset yet, but you can already see the ramifications in their available power caps and the fact that the new copies of the same gear are exempt from that cap. It never had anything to do with power creep or removing things to make room for a bunch of new loot. It's about using old content as "new loot" and making players grind for the same old stuff we already had access to. :(

Yup. Sunsetting is a grand lie. If it takes everyone EXPERIENCING it to finally get it, I’ll take it. Honestly, Bungie, just take the stupid pinnacles. Sunsetting exists solely to bring those out of rotation, but Bungie is just piggybacking the fact that players will have to play more to re-grind their weapons into sunsetting instead of just sunsetting pinnacles. It’s like a win-win for them.

            • At this point I think Sunsetting is just an elaborate excuse to pull Recluse/Mountaintop/Revoker/SpareBender our of the meta. They probably thought retiring gear as a whole would be less infuriating than outright removing a few bad apples. I’m not an avid Raider or PVPer so my opinion doesn’t carry much weight but if I’m right, the whole exercise seems silly. It sucks but either nerf them to a reasonable spot or remove them. Bandaid removed. We can move on.

              • I made a post on this exact same subject. I think this is a valid pressure point on Bungie. They compare the new system to Magic. Magic doesn't force you to rebuy a card if comes back into rotation.

                • I’m ok with sun setting if I am chasing new weapons but I am not ok chasing the same weapons that I already have. Last season I got a god rolled night watch and bungie do you really mean to tell me that the one I got this season with a lesser role is going to be more important just because I got it this week instead of 2 weeks ago?

                • Day 3 after release and most top streamers have farmed to 1060 masterwork on 1 or more characters. No one cares anymore. Sunsetting only affects people who don't play 10 hours a day. Maybe that was the plan. Whatever!

                  • Strange Coin you make some valid points and I agree that ever verse should be removed from this game. But Whether we wanted it or not, we’ve stepped into a war with the Cabal on Mars. So let’s get to taking out their command, one by one. Valus Ta’aurc. From what I can gather he commands the Siege Dancers from an Imperial Land Tank outside of Rubicon. He's well protected, but with the right team, we can punch through those defenses, take this beast out, and break their grip on Freehold.

                  • I was thinking of this, today, as well. How many people are going to have to reach for the same weapons all over again and grind for the rolls they want? Wouldn't a better system be to put the power in the guardian and build a weapons (and armour) tree that allows a person to configure their own perks? You could still have random rolls by setting, say, two perks on RNG drop and allowing the rest of the perk tree to build out. Use mats or whatever to buy the perks and something like a culminating material (UberCrystal or whatever) to top it off. That way, people get their grind and the excitement of random drops. And they get to rebuild the tree however and whenever they like by starting over and putting more mats in. By putting the power in the guardian rather than the weapon, no sunsetting needed. The weaps naturally fall off when newer ones come into the game that are better and or more desirable. Bungie has more control over power creep. Players build and play how they want. Win/Win.

                  • Basically everything will be retired a year from its current season . For example ....season 8 stuff will retire at the end of this season . Season 9 at the end of 12 10 at 13....so on and so forth....I'm going to miss my Randy's

The only way to properly justify putting caps on the best old gear is introducing a new weapons system equivalent to armor 2.0. The best part of what they’ve done during an abysmal year is introducing mods that can create diverse builds and ones that enhance a players approach to different aspects of the game. This should be happening to weapons so the process of leaving something behind isn’t a negative. A big part of the disconnect from the community is they miss the point that they come across like a controlling parent limiting a child’s gaming time. Taking away things, diminishing the ability to use them and making them less viable isn’t a good experience in any walk of life. When Forsaken was released, no one cared because the actual new weapons were plentiful, more powerful and more importantly more interesting due to random rolls. Those year 1 weapons didn’t have sunsetting. They just couldn’t compete so 95% of players deleted them. I get they can’t make things more powerful but they can maintain the power, perk combinations and bring much more to the table with mods that can have better synergy with our builds and armor. The pursuit of weapon frames and mods to create your perfect weapon types for every activity. To me that’s worth leaving my older gear behind. Instead we get the handful of drones defending inflated grind, denial that sunsetting will effect more then just our end game, the lack of actual new weapons and that we are doing the same grind on the same weapons and that we are running in circles. We are being funneled into a safe space for them and it’s a bad experience for most of us. I don’t give a shit about my 29th Better Devils. Been there and have done that. I want more choice, not less and one that inspires creative ways for me to play the game. Sunsetting is simply a way for them to allocate less resources into testing, an illusion of new content that’s old content and purpose to play. If they want the game to be cutting edge, a new weapon system is the way to go.

                  • I don't think we see the whole picture yet, but yes - i do agree there are some confusions. I think part of this is them trying to appease the want to still have some of those weapons as part of the world pool and move them up in power to keep them relevant...but I do agree, if they aren't capable to have new perks, seems odd to me. Personally, i'm just focusing on new weapons as I would prefer the game to leave the past behind and constantly evolve. I.E. I would honestly prefer each season to only have THAT season's gear relevant - but i'm sure that's a minority opinion.
