You know, fun? That thing that videogames are supposed to be?
When I play Destiny, and do the absurd amount of grinding required, I'm NOT having fun doing the grind. The fun comes when I get that sense of accomplishment finishing it, when I get to play with my awesome new gun. Bungie is taking that away. What's the point anymore? And before you say "YoU cAn UsE iT iN pAtRoLs," I didn't spend all that time working toward the Mountaintop to use it in patrols. I didn't grind out Loaded Question so I could blaze through worthless strikes.
In short, after this season (I am seriously regretting buying the SK Deluxe) I'll be F2P, if I play at all. As someone once said on here (sorry I can't remember your name).
"Before, the weapons were the game, and we tolerated everything else. Now, everything else is the game."

4 RepliesI'm not sure "Fun" is the right word. You either enjoy the gameplay, or you don't, and Sunsetting wont change the basic gameplay too much. What Sunsetting will do however is change players attitude towards acquiring loot. I'm more concerned that Sunsetting will highlight how Sisyphean Destiny's loot grind truly is, and the psychological impact it will have on the playerbase.
-
1 ReplySunsetting is just Bungie's poor answer to the "problem" of players not grinding away for the newest loot they created, so now they're going to force you to do it. They pretend it's because they can't make anything better without succumbing to powercreep, but they almost never make anything that's even equal to what we have; it's almost always worse. That gun you have with 100 recoil, high range, Outlaw and Killclip named Superior? Now go grind it again, except this time it's named Rerelease and has 12 different bits/bobs sticking out of it. In a year, do it again, but *this* time it's named This Again. It's so transparent that I don't even think Bungie believes the nonsense they've been using to justify this move.

4 RepliesIt already has. I’ve been grinding for a Groll Tranquility for a year. I never got it. Now there’s literally zero reason to get one. The pinnacles are one thing. I have every pinnacle in the game and I would be okay with them being sunset. It would even let them make new pinnacles each season knowing they to would be going away. It’s the random rolled weapons and armor loadouts that are unacceptable. I have great armor now, but only my bots will be rotating. It throws off my whole loudout making me loose three tiers any at I dice it. Essentially not respecting my time considering all of the cores I spent on them. I did not buy the season pass and only bought worthy being hyped for Trials. I play endgame pvp. I could care less about Quickpay. You know why I play raids, dungeons, Nfs etc? For endgame pvp. Now that I’m going F2P I guess I will cut down my playtime upwards of 90%. Day 1 D1 player. Our time should be respected.

2 RepliesBungie puts the FU in FUN.
-
It's hard to sap the fun out of a game that already isn't fun

6 RepliesI don't think so. Destiny will always be a fun game. Set personal goals and achieve them. Don't play the game for armor. Don't play the game for the weapons. Don't play the game for KDA, Don't play the game for titles, and don't play the game for loot. Just play the game for what it is. Everything else is just extras.
-
5 RepliesNO it wont, all of you noobs want to keep using the same gun for years, complain why Bungie doesn't bring new content, and when Bungie brings something new to work for you'll still find a pathetic reason to complain.
-
Agreed. Also what is going to happen when they sunset the Drang and Drang(Baroque) as they are used to bring the full effect of the Sturm exotic out.And the Gambit Prime armor which would ultimately make playing Reckoning and Menagerie pointless to play as well as using the Sturm.I think alittle more though needs to go into sunsetting than what was originally intended. My other thought is Pinnacle/Ritual weapons should have a longer life span like the raid gear/weapons,as a ton of us grinded, got aggravated, lowered k/d ratios just to get them.

I'm NOT having fun doing the grind.
Then play a different game.

1 ReplyYou can really tell when someone never played Destiny 1 OR any other mmorpg. This is common practice in other games. They act like this is the first time for destiny too. Using Mountaintop and Recluse in PvE and Revoker and Summoner for the rest of destiny 2s life span doesn't sound like a very fun idea. I don't understand why this is controversial. How is bungie supposed to make you care about the new guns and content otherwise? Power creep all the new weapons to the point where you are effectively immortal and there is zero challenge? Don't see any other solution. "Make more interesting perks" lol smh. You have another SEASON to play with your guns. And guess what? When sunsetting eventually happens, the guns don't turn to shards. You can still use them in all the old content.

I agree !!!!!!! All they have to do was Just retire weapons by eliminating the option of acquiring them with random rolls and set them with static rolls. This will let the hardcore fan base have the weapons they’ve grinded for and not invalidate their time getting them. Since the older weapons no longer have random rolls then this means only the new gear will have random rolls which will have a chase incentive towards them. For example midnight coupe and spare rations, Not many chase for Midnight Coupe anymore mainly because it has a static roll while spare rations has random rolls and a weapon mod slot. Every True Destiny player GRINDS FOR THE GROLL ever since Day 1 of D1. I agree with weapon retirement BUT not the approach Bungie is making on IT!
-
Big reason why I no longer play the game. Don’t like the idea of sunsetting. Happy for others who like it though.
-
86 RepliesSo using Moutaintop forever would be fun? This is a prime example of why weapon retirement is needed.
-
Not sure how any of this sunsetting business will turn out, but from now on I’m only spending masterwork cores on exotic pieces of armor. I’m not wasting them based on the vague promise that the cores will be easier to obtain at a later point in time.
-
So, I thought of something else: sunsetting will remove every game mode except strikes, pvp, and one raid. Because we won't gain any useable rewards from gambit, forges, or any of the other raids. Hell, the Last Wish still won't receive much more interest, because there's only a few items in there worth going after.

36 RepliesEdited by Acekiler 45: 6/4/2020 8:58:34 PMare you meaning to say that you don't want to rebuy the same weapons you bought years ago? and regrind rolls for them only to be useless again three months later so you can rebuy them in the same season months later? and continue to rebuy the same -blam!-ing weapon just to regrind for it again and again? This is an Idea leave this scam alone and play a real game.
-
I’m with you but at this point, honestly, I think we have to let this go and see what happens.
-
Since the confirmation of sunsetting, I have barely touched Destiny 2. I'm probably going to knockout conqueror today then go play Division 2.
-
You've had a long time to abuse the EZ mode button that is mountaintop. Find something new to enjoy in pinnacle activities.
“Funny story for you. Remember that Centurion Oryx ‘took’ right after you landed on the Dreadaught? Then the Centurion and that Taken Ogre tried to stop you from killing the King? Heh. Didn’t work. So the Centurion’s bond-brothers are pretty angry they lost their commander. They’re leading a team to blow the Dreadnaught’s core. The core goes, and most of the system goes with it. You’re gonna make sure that doesn’t happen” - Cayde-6
1 ReplyDid anyone else's dyslexia kick in for a second and see "fap the sun" just briefly?
-
I just find it crazy that all the previous activities raids, gambit, forges and menagerie will be utterly pointless and there will be no point in doing them unless you want to complete seals.
-
I actually think a major reason why so many people stick to specific loadouts isn't just because they invested so heavily in a specific build, although that is a major factor: it is the fact that this game has no gear presets so it's neither fast nor easy to swap between different builds while in a match or in an activity without getting killed, especially with how slow the inventory loads, how laggy it is to actually swap weapons and armor, and how excruciatingly slow it is to swap between your inventory and gear stored in your Vault (not to mention lack of Vault space for even keeping multiple armor sets). I'd argue that more people would be willing to try things outside the box, outside their regular style of play, outside their normal builds, if it was faster and easier to swap between loadouts and less onerous to max out gear sets so you can experiment.

1 ReplyI like sunsetting.

9 RepliesI came back during season of dawn about midway through. Basically ignored destiny since forsaken like I played the story but became to busy right after. Played a little during black armoury but didn’t do any of the pinnacles until I played in season 9. It literally took me like 3 weeks of grinding all the pinnacles and rituals up to that point to get everything I’d fallen behind on. Given mountain too was made easier but still you spend some time in the right places and it’s a pretty tame grind as is everything else. The game can’t move forward when everyone’s screaming for them to hold onto the broken past. We’ve been in this spot before, before ttk launched when our loadouts were of full ghorn power level exotics and people were pretty cool with starting over again (I had over 1k hours before getting my first ghorn so don’t say I don’t know what grinding is like, every -blam!-ing exotic drop I could get I went for until I got it) pinnacles render most gear pointless to hardcores and god rolls have next to zero value at this point in the game. A reset doesn’t devalue your effort, it renews the game so you can play it for fun again, be excited over drops again, let’s bungie redo the weapon system. I’ve had the same inaugural address since vanilla and it still does perfectly fine. Game needs to change
