What happens to the people who falsely report people for hacking on console?

A few days ago I received a message on PSN asking me to join their party chat. Upon joining (I know, I know. Not a good idea) they started accusing me of using aimbot, wallhacks and generally a bad attitude on top of that. I took the opportunity to ask the person to record and upload his footage and I'll do the same. He and his FireTeam declined to do so and stated they've reported me for being a hacker and they'll get the rest of their clan to report me. They started laughing and said hey can't wait until I get perma banned. Now obviously, I haven't yet been banned or contacted by bungie. I'm not a cheater/hacker or whatever so not too worried. However, this brings me to my question: What happens to the people who on purpose falsely accuse people of hack or cheating or whatever report? What happens if they get clan members who've had no contact with me match making wise or otherwise to report me? Would I still end up being red flagged due to the number of reports received in a short amount of time? What of the people doing this intentionally to get people perma/temp banned? Do they end up facing consequences?

I know how you feel. I just had the exact same thing happen to me. I was playing iron banner and there was three people in a fireteam that would tea bag me every time they killed me. I won the first match against them but they won the second. After the two games I got an invite to their party and a few nasty messages from them accusing me of cheating/hacking and they had 7 people report me. I joined there chat and they went off the rails screaming at me and accusing me of cheating. They kept saying the have a video of me cheating and that they couldn’t wait for me to get banned. I asked if they would send me the video but declined. I even offered to 1v1 one of the guys but of course they declined that too. I’ve been playing destiny since the beginning and have never once had this happen to me. Some Destiny players are just immature ass hats that get their rocks off harassing people that are better players then them. If you’re not cheating and you just beat them fair and square then take it as a compliment bc obviously you’re a better player and they couldn’t handle that. Wear it as a badge of honor and move on lol. I almost wonder if it was the same guys.

  • I know there is a sub section of people who think cheats are possible of consoles but this is simply not a thing. It is just another excuse for players to blame rather than actually improving. If you’ve done nothing wrong then I’d just try to move on. Those guys have no right to be toxic but just fire them a quick ‘git gud’, block them and try to move on. I’ve never joined a party but I take all hate mail as an achievement - know this doesn’t make it right but that’s how I try to approach it.

    • If the other guy has a bad connection your movement could look like you are glitching. In his perspective you are cheating when in reality his game has lag because of weak wifi signal. You cant ban people for mistaking what they see on their screen that looks like someone hacking. No way to prove or disprove. I played a match in D1 where the entire opposing team and at least one of my teammates had that invisible look to them. I reset my router and it fixed it but it definitely looked like cheating to me.. at first

      • Bungie does not issue restrictions or bans based on reports alone. Your account would get flagged for manual review, but if you haven't done anything wrong, then there's nothing to worry about. The people falsely reporting you may be punished for misuse of the report feature.

      • Do Bungie even act on reports?

        • Bungie has recently made some changes that made it so you can only report people if you were in the same match with them. I think you're fine. As far as people doing this kind of thing, I'm not sure.
