Who is Ahamkara, and why are we wearing their bones?
-
From everything I’ve read about them... Ahamkara are Paracausal parasites that seem to be byproducts of the Traveler using its paracausal light to terraform worlds that aren’t naturally in a place in their solar system to be able to support life. The evidence for this is they seem to appear in our solar system out of nowhere after the traveler makes the other planets and moons habitable. They are referred to as wish dragons as they usually take the form of dragon or beast like creatures, though they are shape shifting and all seem to be somewhat different, with a few common identifying traits seen in their remains. The reason is they seem to have paracausal abilities of their own, that manifest the desires of other beings in strange ways. They also are somewhat deathless, as killing an ahamkara merely seems to confine their consciousness and stifle their abilities to their physical remains. When their remains are held, they can still grant abilities and wishes to a lesser degree, but also whisper and cause hallucinations, dreams and other subtle psychic influences. This can usually be noted that they have influence over someone by the use of the words “oh (user, weilder, reader, killer, noun) mine”. These words can also be spoken by the wearer or wielder of ahamkara remains, which is usually a clear sign that they have succumbed to the influence of the ahamkara psyche that still exists in the bones. One of the Ahamkara armour sets that hunters can get has been coated in metal, to help quiet the voices of the bones while the hunter wears them. Their paracausal powers while alive, can reach to great heights but not to the degree of the darkness pyramids or the light traveler. The nine acquire the remains of many ahamkara with the hopes of using their paracausal powers to help them achieve their goals, but it’s not powerful enough for their designs. So they give them to us as exotics via xur. There both is and isn’t a connection to the hive worm gods and the ahamkara. While they are not the same species, they have many similarities, and use the suggestive words “oh user mine” which turn out to be a sort of hypnotic suggestion phrase for those that understand how to influence others. Even empower Calus has Learned and attempted this phrase on us during his invitations. But the Arhamkara and hive worm gods seem to know it naturally. My theory is that while the ahamkara are parasites of the traveler, the hive are paracausal parasites of the darkness. The worm gods do commune with the dark as sort of middle men for the hive until Oryx kills one and communes with the darkness on his own, learning the power of taking. The reason I think ahamkara and worm gods are parasites for their respective forces are that worm gods can also speak to people through their dead remains and grant powers in exchange ... the worm gods however feed off destruction and death, while Arhamkara technically feed off creation. This is why they grant wishes. They feed of creating what life forms desire.... however they make sure the wish has a flaw or drawback because they want to keep their food supply constant. If they grant everything a person desires, the person will no longer desire anything. If they grant a wish that leave the user wanting.... then the meal continues. Eventually all the ahamkara in our solar system were killed except for riven of the dreaming city. Although they were taken and killed by us during a raid. The interesting thing is that even when taken, riven maintained its free will, showing how it’s paracausal power does make it somewhat immune to the darkness. Weather an ahamkara can come back to life after feeding off a wearer of their bones for long enough is possible remains to be seen. We also may still meet ahamkara from other systems. And that’s about all we know

“Ahamkara” is the name of a species of magical dragons that could grant wishes, but they always had some sort of twist. Think of them as evil genies, only in the form of a dragon instead of whatever comed out of a lamp. We wear their bones in our gear because the magical properties that remain within them.

2 RepliesEdited by Grays_KS27: 5/23/2020 4:11:22 PMThe others nailed it all, but since they only loosely touched the topic of shapeshifting: Yes, Ahamkara can shapeshift. It’s also worth mentioning that they intentionally corrupt and twist the wishes they grant and are responsible for plenty of deaths, for example the death of the very first Hunter Vanguard and many Awoken. No one knows where the Ahamkara came from, but they have been seen in other solar systems and crossed paths with the Hive and supposedly the Cabal, as well as other species. The Ahamkara appeared in our system after the Collapse and mostly gathered on Venus, where their wish-granting heavily distorted reality on the planet and was a danger to many Guardians. So the Ahamkara Hunt began and the Ahamkara were slain until Riven was the last known living Ahamkara, kept secret by Mara Sov. The Hunt happened after Six Fronts and before the deaths of the Iron Lords. When they die their bones are left behind and they can still speak and affect a person’s mind, though it’s unclear how much they can do in the bone state.

Ahamkara are magical space dragon's that can alter reality itself. They grant and feed off wishes/desires and can persist even in death The bones of an ahamkara can still grant wishes, even whisper to its bearer. They've been hunted to extinction due to how dangerous and manipulative they are

3 RepliesAhamkara are wish dragons that were hunted to extinction. They are so powerful that even after death their bones can still grant wishes and communicate with guardians. They were hunted to extinction because their wish granting had adverse or unintended effects and the Vanguard seemed it was better they be dead then keep tempting and killing guardians.
