The issue with Fewinter’s Lie - and why Bungie has to sunset

This shotgun is a perfect example of why Bungie feels the need to sunset gear. Felwinter’s Lie is now the best shotgun for PvP. Yes, you can use mindbender’s or python, but you’re not going to get the same sort of hip-fire accuracy and range. Therefore, shotguns in PvP is a closed book. No more need to even try new shotguns in your slot if you want to play PvP. Sound eerily similar to a certain pinnacle Submachine gun you HAD to have if you wanted to stand a chance in PvP not so long ago. This is why sunsetting is needed. You make the perfect killing machine and can’t go any further without making new gear that just one-shots anything with no need for skill. They have given us Felwinter’s Lie as a taste of what not sunsetting will be like. And in Y4 when they finally sunset this gun you will be thankful for finally being able to use a different gun.

  • Isn't sunsetting only for power level? They're still gonna ruin your day with it in PvP, no?

  • Nope. It only shows why sunsetting pinnacle weapons could be a thing. It doesn't show why sunsetting every regular legendary weapon in the game should be a thing. Felwinter's is OP, but the downside is you can only use it for a year. That still makes you want to grind good rolls on other shotguns IF you could use them for as long as you want. With the system Bungie is introducing it will most likely suck the fun out of grinding for most people. Because deep down you know Bungie doesn't really respects your time.

  • It's just a first run though. The TWAB said they intend to balance weapons more frequently. If FL is that OP, it will have nerfs incoming way before it gets outdated.

    • Nope, shotpackage is basically a better version of fullmchoke correct? Ok, what if shotpackage gave you a more concentrated pellet spread at a cost of range? All your pellets will hit but you now have a range penalty. This will keep it balanced.

      • From the opinion of people who have tested the gun, the FL isn't as closed book as you seem to make it out. It's range is about the same as Mindbenders, but seems that the Trail Shotgun can out preform it. The best thing about FL is it's consistency and easy to get. Don't get me wrong. It's a top tier shotgun, but so good you wouldn't even consider anything else? That's were you lose me. Plus Sunsetting wouldn't have prevented the Recluse from getting nerfed. They still plan to balance the game and nerf problem weapons. Sunsetting is mostly to prevent long domination of a weapon in PvE and Trails/Ironbanner. The rest of the Crucible doesn't care about sunsetting, for there is no level requirement.
