One of the Worst Companies Ever

Bungie has undoubtedly become mine and many others' least liked company in a short span of a few months. From terrible seasons, awful decision making, horrendous community response, and constant promotion of ideas and events nobody likes, all of you at Bungie have proven to us time and again that the customer doesn't matter. The recent sunsetting issue just made it an infinite amount of time worse, so if you care about consumer feedback at all, please consider the following. Firstly, I want to start off by saying that your lack of response to player opposition towards the weapon and armor sunsetting is the epitome of ignorance and apathy. Never have I ever played a game where the forums are plagued with negative threads upon negative threads, all supported by HUNDREDS of upvotes and replies - yet somehow not seen any response. This shows me two things: Firstly that Bungie does NOT care about the consumer, and furthermore would rather only do whatever they want and force it down the throats of people whilst pretending that you are listening to the community. More infuriating is how the community managers would rather reply to a thread about a SINGLE PERSON complaining about the usage of a word that NOBODY is being offended by, rather than an issue that's been rapidly gaining momentum and has caused an unprecedented upsurge in negative sentiment towards the direction the game is taking. When the customers hate what you do, and are actively protesting the decisions being made, you need to respond in a fashion that solves the problem, not pretend that you don't see it and continue implementing whatever terrible idea you have managed to come up with. That's not only showing you are being horrendous at your job, it's also showing that you are horrendously apathetic people even if it wasn't your intent. Thirdly is how you, as a company, keep making false promises and lie to the consumer constantly. This is a total lack of integrity in the way you operate, and to be honest, I feel ill thinking about all the things you have done and things you have said to the community in the past few months. You announce that our items are being sunset because you want the players to grind for new items, and that is beyond false. New items means new perks, never before seen abilities and archetypes, interesting mods. Reskinning things and releasing them with the same perk pool is not new, it's old and you know it, but you're trying to cover up the lack of ingenuity through branding and marketing terms. You also seem intent on wasting the community's time, declaring that you will be reissuing PAST GEAR that we had before and have NO reason to regrind other than because of the forced sunsetting. People often confuse the idea of new gear in other games with new gear in Destiny. When other games say they are releasing new weapons, they mean it. The gear looks awesome, different, and work differently than past loot. When Destiny says new gear, it means reskins and the same perk pools of other weapons. It's like the difference between Dire Promise and Spare Rations. One is newer in timeline, one is a rerelease. Both shoot about the same, have perks that do about the same things, and only deviate very slightly in roll combination. This isn't new stuff, it's a rebranding of old content that they will force us to spend countless hours grinding for the same things we had before that doesn't make the gameplay any more rewarding. So Bungie, going forward, I have a few suggestions. Firstly, respond to the community in a quicker manner. Show us that you care, and make changes in the direction the community wants. Making a game we all enjoy and don't feel spite towards encourages more playing and more spending for cool items. Secondly, if you are going to focus resources on making a DLC that's insane and really good, but have to sacrifice current content, be straight with it. Honesty is valued more than you understand, and I would be more forgiving and happy with a product I know is getting a massive improvement later than be angry with efforts trying to cover up the current lack of content. Lastly, stop trying to copy other games. Luke Smith keeps talking about WoW and how much he enjoys it, and there's a reason why WoW is not Destiny. We come here for a looter shooter that allows us to hoard the gear we like, we don't come here to play a reskinned version of another game. His infatuation with that MMO is leaking dangerously into D2, and we don't appreciate it. If the directors of the game don't realize that we don't want to be stuck with yet another faceless copy of some other existing creation, then things are just going to keep getting worse. Well that's it. I hope this thread gets to Bungie somehow, and is able to change their minds to a certain extent. However, if they continue to ignore us players, then I will have lost complete confidence in the game studio as a whole, and so will many others. [REDACTED]

  • Few Months? It al started in 2014 when Joe Staten left all the way to 2019 when other Joe left Bungie for Riot. You are right do when you say the last few months made everything a 100 times worse, but everything started back in 2014 and with Luke Smith as the man behind Bungie there is no hope...

This is exactly why my wife and I quit Destiny 1. We were both heavily into it since the Beta, having purchased all content but the ROI for 2 accounts and actually buying PS4 Destiny Bundles on their release as well. We got tired of having content we had played for taken away with each new DLC and having our gear retired with Light Level caps. So ROI came and we just called it quits. We refused to purchase Destiny 2 because of Bungie's terrible customer treatment. Then Activision was out and everyone swore things would change. I didn't buy it (literally or figuratively). We went ahead and started Destiny 2 when it went F2P only because there was no risk of investment other than lost time. It was what I had been wanting since Destiny 1 (aside from the lack of customizable skill trees). It really is a fun game with fantastic mechanics and a real sense of atmosphere. You really develope an attachment to your character, your teammates... your gear... So of course Bungie screws it up. They go back to ignoring their players. I predicted this and, should they continue forward this way, will actually enjoy watching Bungie alienate it's player base. Effectively cutting off it's only source of revenue. Sure there will continue to be die hard players but, like anything that suffers from prolonged asphyxiation, it'll never fully recover. Look at Anthem. It choked on it's own stupidity and is now little more than a vegetable. Stop Bungie, chew before you swallow.

Wow. I have purposely avoided this post because of the clear bias/clickbait present in its title. Finally, out of sheer boredom I clicked on it to see what horrendous logic and bias could be found in the thread. I certainly wasn’t expecting to read the entire post. You sir have raised some great points and are addressing the serious problems underneath the surface of Bungie’s development and community management. And you have provided solid feedback and advice while intelligently voicing the opinions of the majority of the people playing Destiny 2 right now. Good Job! Definitely getting an upvote from me.

  • Bungie has this untouchable mentality they think they've earned from Halo, when not a single person there right now had any input on that game.

I don't know how long you have been playing Destiny but Bungie has actually done worse than this in the past: - Xp throttling: Reducing our xps to increase play time https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=w7kgNExNiO4 - Cut content: chopping what was to be a single dlc to sell as two in order to make more $: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=B9jHmDPPZkc - Reselling content as DLC that should've come standard in vanilla D2, as they were already part of Destiny 1. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=qZxtgecBSE0 - Reskinning raid armor: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=8TSXEQhZSZk - Bungie scams: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=oZXABh6M8BA - Putting earned trophy behind paywall: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=PHN__Ufnbso - This very issue we're upset about is something we've dealt with before in Destiny 1. Originally, gear had an expiration but the community didn't like that so they introduced the infusion system you're familiar with. Somehow, they seem to think it's a good idea to reintroduce the same problem players complained about. This leads to: - Ultimately, this is a psy ops game where players are being conditioned like lab rats: https://www.bungie.net/en/Forums/Post/195115730 - The addictive sauce used in Destiny: https://amp.reddit.com/r/DestinyTheGame/comments/2itlvw/destiny_addictive_formula_detailed_by_bungie/ After over 5 years of them doing the same sleazy practices, it's insanity to think they will change, while the leadership remains the same. A wise person would either quit now or play the game as a super casual player with very little vested interest: no masterworking, no god rolls, no chasing of pinnacles (except acquiring them by accident while having fun), no trials, no chasing FOMO exotics, completing exotic quests in multiple days or weeks, no chasing of perfect gear/mod loadouts, and no spending money on Everworse. Destiny is my side piece; I seldom play it and I only play it when I need a break from other games. Any greater investment into this game is bound to result in disappointment.

        • I couldn't read the whole thing but I got the gist of it. If I really think about it and look at the span of bungie's history... They haven't made a decent game since the Halo franchise. At least in my opinion. This had promise, no doubt. I could see the potential (The potential Joe Staten and his team put together) and it had some shining moments. However, over all, I have fonder memories of Halo, than I do Destiny. Sad but true.

            • They are not evil like EA or Activision. They are just lazy and stupid. I think Bungie needs and deserves a publisher like Activision so they can actually produce some real content. They have this, “it’s our game now we can do everything we want” and they basically do nothing. All they are doing is bringing assets from D1 and resell them. I mean Shadowkeep is pretty much an asset flip lol.

They are a company through and through. What do you expect? They make the game to make money. They don’t owe us anything technically speaking. Ive never truly been disappointed by bungie till this season. Its their game tho, and my choice to buy and play it. Same with everyone else. Tho I do agree with some of the suggestions you’ve made

              • Just get off the forums, delete your characters and not come back. People feel so entitled and almighty nowadays it’s funny. Just gtfo, if you don’t like the game, GO. That simple. This isn’t a high school relationship, it’s a video game. Nobody cares if you, leave nobody is going to miss you and people are most certainly not going to read your Great Wall of entitlement. And this is coming from someone who hardly ever plays this game anymore lol. Get over yourself

I think it's clear Bungie cares about only creating a game for themselves, not to play, but to realize their own ideas by engraving their names into it and for their own supporters to deify them, shower them in praise and tell them how much Destiny "changed their life." They could care less about the regular players of the game who feel disrespected. They even cared more about their image to their loyal supporters of the game with that response in the Kamikaze thread. That whole topic was about "How a Destiny character should be in the context of that universe", You think that the people who question what Bungie are doing with the sunsetting are loyal to them? The person in that thread is a loyal Bungie fan and it shows. So when all of a sudden something is wrong, it gets immediate attention whereas us non-loyals are being ignored.

TL;DR But referring to the headline I could name at least 5 companies who are way worse without even having to think. At least Bungie has no mercenary army to keep villagers who are about to die from thirst away from the only clean water or steals pets to put them to sleep forever. Yes, it was my one daily dose of taking something too serious, bleh :P

                      • The best course of action if you want to see improvement is at simply stop buying the interacting with the product. Marvel and their New Warriors project failed and showed to them that no one was interested or n internet gas heros. Star Wars as of now is so desperate to retain attention their trying to break into manga again. Bungie has been given many examples on where to push the franchise, beat we let finances talk now.

Thank God.. someone gets it. I really doubt that bungie will respond in a way that they will rethink their current trajectory the game is going. Luke Smith is going to kill the game because he thinks he right. All the old great staff from D1 is long gone and replaced by irresponsible youngsters that follow luke "old sweater" Smith. Too many bad decisions for me to come back to D2. I'll wait till D3 to make that choice to come back. Edit: I hate luke Smith. I really hate that guy.

                            • I’ve seen people on these forums say they have no need or reason to hunt god rolls of new weapons because they already have god rolls of weapons in those archetypes. While not the ideal solution, sun-setting does make it so each year you have to hunt god rolls all over again. All the while preventing power creep, which they seem hugely afraid of. I’ll admit, I’m not a fan, but it is a direct response to criticism and feedback by the community. Just because you don’t like the solution doesn’t mean they didn’t address the problem. I cannot say Bungie is one of the worst companies. I cannot our them on the same level as Activision, EA, Bethesda, whoever is making Star Citizen. I see Bungie try to find that balance between making money and keeping fans happy and engaged. I don’t think it is laziness, as I doubt anyone at Bungie responsible for making content or updating the game goes in to work and goes through the whole day with little to no work being done. It could be due to creativity and management. Though one thing to keep in mind is they have been making stuff to release every 3 months while at the same time working on the larger expansion release. There’s only so many hours in a month, so many resources that can be used. Destiny 2 will not ever have an infinite budget. Destiny/Destiny 2 has changed and evolved greatly over the years. Yes it still feels like Destiny, but I played some D2 with a friend who hasn’t played the game since D2Y1, and he felt overwhelmed with the changes and new mechanics at first. How you play Destiny is even more different for new players than it was for us. Bungie seems to be making huge changes to Eververse and content that goes into it vs the actual game. Each time Bungie has changed the game it was an answer to feedback/criticism from the community. We just don’t always like the answer Bungie has come up with, because not everything is free and we can’t have unique original content for every hour of the hundreds of hours we play each season. And they can’t please everyone. Bungie may not be near the top, but they are far from near the bottom.
