Throughout the whole Destiny franchise, we've seen pretty much every single enemy faction speak english (or the english/chinese/russian hybrid language they use in the tower), from Variks, to Oryx, then Ghaul. Evidently, our alien foes can both learn and speak our language, but I can't remember a single instance where humans (including awoken/exo) have spoke to an extraterrestrial in their language.
I can imagine Toland, Eris, and most warlocks can read Hive runes, but have we ever seen them speak the hive's language? Maybe i'm just misremembering, though, it's been awhile since i read the lore.

I speak Tank. But Goliath is hard to understand.
-
Cayde could speak Eliksni, as well as Shiro and some Awoken. Ana understood Cabal language.

3 RepliesIs there a legite way to learn the languges? Ive heard the fallen eliksni can be translated or something

2 RepliesIt's all Greek to me....

1 ReplyI assume Bungie just makes every important alien speak our language so that we could understand them and not have to read a bunch of subtitles. They did the same thing in the Halo franchise.
-
Imagine if every alien race spoke a different language. Not only would that mess up the entire Star Wars series as well as destiny but also literally every other space-related series in existence.

2 RepliesI always thought the Cabal Psions speak a little English. Sounds like they say "Oh he's dead," "Hey a$$hole!", and "Look at this guy."
-
Sure they do, You’ve never heard a Brit speak in the party? That sh!t is wack!.... bruv BOLLOCKS!!! 😈
I luv you Brits!!
5 RepliesI know for a fact that Osiris can speak Vex.
-
I know that The Vex do computer based communication, where they communicate "brain-to-brain", our ghost has interfaced and communicated with the Vex before in the Deep Conversation adventure. That would be the closest example I can think of off the top of my head.

1 ReplyThis is not the language video game you’re looking for. No mans sky has a game mode were you can learn three aliens languages.
-
I thought the ghosts just translated everything. Huh.
-
2 RepliesI think you’re reading too much into game mechanics. Eris has been known to chant in an unknown language though.
-
Yeah I think there are some who have learned Eliksni, Cabal etc. Considering our Ghosts can learn it, I can't imagine why a warlock wouldn't be interested in learning as well

I believe it was hinted that Cayde-6 had some understanding of the Fallen’s language. I’m as sure that Eris did some kind of hive chant in the first level of Shadowkeep.

1 ReplyCayde and (what is alluded to) also Devrim and Hawthorne can speak or at least understand the Eliksni dialect. Sjur Eido (the first Queen’s Wrath) had an understanding of the Eliksni language as well as shown in the “Misraaks” card of The Dreaming City lore book, in which she exchanges introductions with Mithrax in his mother tongue. It’s likely a case that Eris and Toland have extensive knowledge over the meaning of Hive words. The vex communicate in a way we don’t fully understand, but my best guess would be we’re able to get accurate understandings of them because they’ve assimilated humans into the network and have been gifted the ability to speak Terran (or at least basic Terran which usually means basic English). Cabal have a very unique language, but some words do cross over into our dialect so we can understand them. In the Warmind part 1 comic (could be the second part, but I’m not too sure) Ana comes across Red Legion just before her Light is taken away. The Cabal speaks in an untranslatable language but the word “Ghaul” is stated in Terran. We also know that many high ranking Cabal can speak our Language as demonstrated by Calus, Ghaul and the Consol. We probably have got a way of translating their language however as Ikora has a description of the Legion displayed in the HomeComing mission. The Pyramids seem to just speak to us straight in Terran so that’s easy. Scorn is just Eliksni, or Terran in the case of the Barons. Likely learnt freely or taught by Uldren.

Female warlock when she’s mad = deathsinger. Spider and Variks both speak fluently English. It’s baited on a translator is being used or not. Spider can sing Chinese though.
-
there are classes where they teach you how to speak klingon and somebody awhile back posted and tutorial on how to speak eliksni so yes people can speak in an alien language .
-
I would think that the Vex are untranslatable since all I’ve heard from them and screeches and screams. The Eliksni, Cabal, Scorn, and Occasionally Taken, (Yea I heard a Taken Psion say something then 3 minutes later I found a regular psion and it said the exact same thing weirdly.) I believe are occasionally translatable.

Devrim and I think Hawthorne have both alluded to knowing Eliksni language, even down to their accents. Though they've never spoke it in-game as far as I know. I don't know if anyone has spoken in the languages of the other factions either, but I guess there isn't much of a need for it if they're already speaking ours.
