Halsey's Bodyguard. The Truth! (SPOILERS Inside)

Many people are getting confused as to what happened to Jun. As an owner of the new edition of The Fall of Reach novel by Eric Nylund and the Halo: Reach Legendary Edition, I can assure you that Jun did not die.

Exhibit A: In the back of the book, there are extra pages of new information. One page tells of Halsey's Spartan bodyguard dying. This bodyguard was a Spartan. People say they think it was Jun. No dice. While both Spartans are linked to "The Package" in a bodyguard way, Jun was not the one who died. If you've seen "The Package", a short CGI film included in Halo: Legends, five SPARTAN-IIs go on a mission to rescue an important "package". This package is a cryogenically frozen Dr. Catherine E. Halsey. John, Kelly, Fred, Solomon, and Arthur fight Covenant forces in what are basically over-weaponized, stripped-down X-Wings. That's not the important part though. It was Thel 'Lodamee (The Elite who fought John in Energy Sword combat) who killed Halsey's SPARTAN-II bodyguard, Sheila. Both The Fall of Reach and Halsey's Jorunal talk about this. The Package Part 1 The Package Part 2

Exhibit B Excerpt from The Fall of Reach:
As you already know, testerday the UNSC declared the colony of Miridem lost. The fight had gone on for over two weeks and we killed a mountain of those bastards, but apparently not enough. During civilian egress, one of our evac craft [BL-9400493] carried a pseudocivilian the spooks consider Pri 1--CATHERINE ELIZABETH HALSEY. Not sure howthe hell that went down, and usually ONI has a good eye on where she is at all times, but there she was, on Miridem's surface, just as the Covenant started their thing. Apparently her S-II bodyguard was taken out during extraction, but the ship she was on still managed to escape. They even made it to the edge of the system safely, but a Covenant Interceptor disabled the vessel before it was able to slip. Everyone on board was killed except for her, so they obviously realize they have something.
Apparently her S-II bodyguard was taken out during extraction Sheila was killed. Halsey's bodyguard. Now let's go back to the previous article in the book which tells it from the Covenant POV and confirms it was Thel 'Lodamee. Oh and one more thing, the Battle of Miridem happened in 2544. That was 8 years prior to the Battle of Reach.

Exhibit 3: Excerpt from The Fall of Reach:
In particular, any concern about Major Thel 'Lodamee...
Supreme Commander Luro 'Taralumee was writing to the Vice Cleric of Zeal at High Charity. As you can see, he was talking about Thel 'Lodamee (Well, DUH! :P). Note: Luro 'Taralumee was the commander who ordered the ship scuttled in "The Package". Major Thel 'Lodamee, a particularly brash Elite who was violent and full of the thirst to kill (This is known as bloodwrath), was the one who said, "Commander, you fool! A thousand hells await you!"
During our siege, some of the vermin attempted to escape. We destroyed each and every vessel before they could even escape their world's gravity well, but one managed to find the system's edge. It was then that Thel left his battlegroup without notice in pursuit of this single ship with a small strike force. You already know what befell our fleet and the cost we have paid. Early estimates are somewhere near three thousand--all on the shoulders of reckless abandon. While Thel managed to slay a human demon--something we were surprised to find here--he came to understand that its purpose was to protect a military asset.
While Thel managed to slay a human demon Again proving Thel 'Lodamee killed Sheila. I believe it was Admiral Preston Cole's fleet who attacked the Covenant battle group over Miridem. This would be the mention of heavy losses sustained.

Exhibit 4: Legendary Video. For those who have watched the Legendary video on Halo Waypoint and actually sat through the whole thing, you know that they mentioned Jun surviving Reach. In the final cutscene of the mission, "The Package", Carter, Emile, and Six get in one Pelican and Jun is ordered to go with Halsey to Castle Base and protect her. Marty mentions here in the Commentary that this is where the sequel would come in. If there was one. They then all joked about Jun and Halsey having kids and that they would all be really smart snipers.

Conclusion: So you see, Jun is alive and his fate will be decided later either in the re-print of First Strike or in a game made by 343 Industries (Very Unlikely). Any questions? EDIT: Thel 'Lodamee is not to be confused with Thel 'Vadamee. Thel 'Vadamee was known as The Arbiter in Halo 2 and Halo 3. [Edited on 10.13.2010 11:06 PM PDT]
Posted by: Jak O Bladez
Posted by: theresidentdude Its true, Jorge could have survived, however unlikely. he did have his helmet off, and he would have been teleported to a random location in the vastness of space. Had he survived, he deserves his own death just like Darth Kooky pointed out. Also excellent topic op was a good read
Yeah entirely possible. Wouldn't it be cool if he jumped to the legendary planet from Halo 3?
Exactly what I was thinking! John and Jorge find a way off the planet and back to Earth after a particularly epic and awesome fight-filled romp across the surface. They then retire. My friend and I have been talking about this for a couple weeks now. (Note: This is not a bump. I just needed some sleep last night and couldn't stay up all hours until the topic died. I merely wanted to express my agreement.)
Posted by: Il Gh0s7 II
Posted by: Darth Kooky Now they just need to give Jorge an ending too as he didn't actually die. That can be found in other threads though. There's a popular one right now which explains it.
I was with you until you said this.
In the Legendary Video Bungie said Jorge could have survived that Slipspace "accident". He may have ended up somewhere completely random in the galaxy. It's a possibility. I'm not saying that's the truth, I'm saying it's plausible and if the case, he would need an ending. If he's dead, we salute you Jorge. Either way, satisfying ending. (I was kinda choked when he blew up on my first playthrough.)
Posted by: DarkSpyda04 Not to mention that this exact elite would become the arbiter from Halo 2 and Halo 3.
I knew I should have put that in my OP. No, Thel 'Vadamee is the Arbiter, not Thel 'Lodamee. Two very different characters, two very different story paths. Thel 'Vadamee was the secondary Protagonist in Halo 2 and the ally of John-117 in Halo 3 (Player 2 as well!). [Edited on 10.13.2010 11:04 PM PDT]
Posted by: sp00n47 did you prove that Jun is alive? because you didnt talk about him until the end and it made your thread confusing to me.
Exhibit 4 is the info you are looking for. Bungie confirmed information. I'd post a transcript but I don't have one. I also don't want to sit for 2 hours waiting on the part to show up just so i can pause, play, pause, play. I would if I could but I'll get frustrated when I need to rewind. Jun is alive at the end of Halo: Reach. The reprint of First Strike should settle up everything nicely. Now they just need to give Jorge an ending too as he didn't actually die. That can be found in other threads though. There's a popular one right now which explains it.

 •
Posted by: Darth Kooky All of The Fall of Reach, both editions, 2552 is written as 2542...the whole damn book. That's a big typo. No one fixed it. Then there's the odd spelling typos. They weren't fixed either. I'm still happy to own the book though :)
The 2542 typo is very depressing for me, as my original copy of Fall of Reach does not have that typo. How sad is it when the "revised" reprint has more wrong with it than the original?

I didn't want to have a wall of text and I wanted to keep it short and sweet. Get right to the point about the important bits with facts and proof. I tried not to ramble. Apparently I succeeded! :)
Posted by: MONKEYMAN903 why they reprint the books
To add confirmation to the Halo canon. The Community has been pointing out plot holes and info that doesn't add up. The reprint is to fix those and confirm the new canon. Thus sealing up holes and completing the equations of the new and old information.
