Why is this community so toxic?

This community is super toxic so I’m waiting to be told that I shouldn’t play the game if I don’t like it but I’m just trying to give some constructive criticism. The problem with this community is that no one can speak their mind without being told to stop playing isn’t the whole idea of a forum to suggest ideas that might help improve the game? Like if I was to say people were complaining about hardlight’s nerf even though the gun is still good and usable I would be roasted. Or if I was to say that I think bastion is stupidly OP I’d be told we’ve already had one exotic nerfed why does another one need to be and I do don’t like crucible don’t play it. And you wonder why crucible is suffering and trials? Because when you suggest something the community roasts you for it. Or if you insult bungie about their standards dropping for eververse items rather than actual content I’d be told they need the money and that they left activision because they were the problem but the games in a worse state since activision left so who at fault now? The random Chinese company that invested in the new IP? Na just bungie. Don’t hate on me it’s just my opinion but there is a lot of evidence to back my point.

  • I love being told "go back to playing [place any game here]" everytime I make a quality of life suggestion. "Bungie has to fix [Place any bug or tuning issue here] first! There's so many problems with this game!" Yeah man. Maybe they should learn to not be so angry with the game, instead of taking it out on people in the forums that know how to handle stress better. And then there's the moderation staff themselves, also being unaware of their fake power trip on a website on the internet.

  • It depends on what you mean by toxic, and which part of the community. I happen to think that many of the vocal parties in this "community" are vitriolic, not toxic. Similar, but different. Here's the problem, we all like this game for our own reasons. We all want to see that part of the game (be it play style, content, or game type) get the attention and focus we feel it deserves. This game however, has many different facets, and no one will be truly happy with the buffet style game that Destiny is, unless they accept it as just that. Bungie has preached about the omnivore type of player they want us to be, but they have massive amounts of trouble getting everyone to play together in all aspects of the game. PvP people, will like PvP. PvE people will like PvE. Weirdos will like Gambit. And just like Gambit, there's little real cross over of those audiences and when they do collide, they are vocal about their distaste for it, and more importantly, each other. PvP people will whinge about how useless the PvE players are, and that all they should do is open the portal so they can go farm- I mean, win the game the right way. PvE people will whinge about that useless PvP guy who has been doing nothing but camping the heavy boxes, and emoting at the bank, before blazing through the portal instead of helping to clear ads and get motes, or running a good DPS weapon for all that heavy they've been ganking, and killing the primeval to win the right way. Both parties are useful in their own right, both playstyles can be fun, but neither party is really happy about having to rub shoulders with the other. So, to take your examples... Nerf is a bad word to many people in this community. PvP people actively suck the fun out of PvE by crying for nerfs. Always have, always will. After so many years of this, many players have just had enough and the debates have turned to the gnashing of teeth and stomping of feet on both sides of the fence. "God, how could bungo be so dumb and let _____ weapon/ability/armor stay in the game, it's broken, fix it, trash game/devs!" "Nuh uh, that weapon/ability/armor is finally useable, keep your filthy hands off it. God, how could bungo be so dumb and not have separate sandboxes? Trash game/devs!" Bungie literally cannot keep up with both sides, and their history of nerfing for PvP people, then instating some new "broken" shiny thing (don't worry, they'll nerf it later) for the PvE crowd, constantly upsets the balance in both areas of the game. Meta shifts, buffs and nerfs, fun or balance; they've never (and likely never will) find true harmony in this aspect. And even if they did, then we'd have to drill down to the separate factions within each party. We are so many different groups all running under the same banner... It's impossible to not have the infighting that we do, particularly when our "leader" Bungie, is constantly trying it's damndest to not outright pick a side or take a stance. And so, we all take aim at the head, from time to time. We all get a little spicy with the other side. But in reality, we all just want this to be the best game it could be. Forums, Reddit, Twitter, these places seem so bad because that is where people run to when they feel they aren't being heard, or getting the game they've been promised. It's vitriol. Not toxicity. Maybe I'm just jaded, or too old to appreciate the label of "toxic", but in my mind, that describes something different than what our community (or at least what I've seen of it) really is. Don't get me wrong, there's definitely some "toxic" people out there, but it's not the community as a whole.

    • Because its hard to watch a game that you love continually miss the mark because of bad decision making.

    • I would definitely say this community is hard to please. It seems no matter what Bungie do, it’s never good enough. But at the same time I do feel like they are very out of touch with what the player base want in the game. The idea of Guardian Games was superb. Finally a competition pitting all the classes against each other. However the execution has been very poor. Would’ve imagined most players stopped competing once they got the exotic LMG.

    • Shouldn’t be coddled for not being able to adapt appropriately to the constantly changing world.
