Subclasses in destiny 2 don't really feel as special as they used to be in D1. Bungie talks about how their vision of allowing people to "make their own killing machine", but the fact that the subclasses are set kind of limit that dream. If we had the ablility to customize our subclasses the way we want then that will make it more satisfying to have a build we enjoy using.
I used to do carries in D1 on xbox, and i remember when all the other good players had their own unique playstyle and used to do good with them. I remember diffizzle using mida with blink, luminosity and wish with nightstalker, my wafflez using golden gun with tripmines, spicy jew going invis, vnostalgic using tlaloc with self rez, and many more that i cant think of right now. When i think about D1, i rememebr actually how diverse it was and how good it felt to use the things you want. When i watch good players now, everything seems the same. No one seems special, its all just arcstriders and dawnblades with icarus dash.
If bungie did a subclass overhaul and allowed us to customize our subclasses, i feel that would be huge for destiny. It may also show love to some perks that are good on subclasses but dont get used simply because the other perks on that tree suck. I would love to see bungie change how subclasses work in this game.

6 RepliesOr, and here's a wild thought How about a system better than D1 and D2? Because D1s skill tree was pretty shit compared to literally any and all mmos or rpgs, and a handful of fps games

2 RepliesAgree I liked choosing the specific perk on my titan bubble. For example, if the team needed more orbs and could handle the DPS, then id specifically chose the certain perks needed for that. If we needed more dps and sustainability, id switch perks to make my bubble last longer and increase damage ontop of weapons of light.

9 RepliesEdited by A1CBeers: 5/3/2020 8:03:56 PMHonestly, the D1 skill trees weren't as customizable as you think. Mainly, there were very clear and obvious perk synergies that only worked when both were selected. If you had the wrong perk selected in one column, another in a different column was doing nothing for you. Basically, the D2 version we have now makes sure that you don't have any accidentally wasted perk selections. All perks in a particular tree synergize with each other. To give an example, the perks on bottom tree Nova Bomb all focus on using Devour. What if you had the wrong melee selected, and as such didn't even have Devour to begin with, despite using everything else that focused on that perk? The only difference between D1 and D2 skill trees is simply that the skill choices you should have made for your build in D1 (but probably didn't in some cases because you either forgot to change or didn't read) are made for you so there's no mistakes. It's literally the same thing, just presented differently. Edit: Just to clarify it for you, in short, the D1 skill trees did nothing more than present an ILLUSION of perk choices and customization. That's it.

The subclass system we have now is a remnant of when Bungie was clearly catering towards a casual audience.
-
They dumbed it down for the casuals

If I could just swap the current cataclysm novabomb for the basic one I’d be perfectly happy. I love the perks and that’s why I use that sub class. But the super tends to drop a couple chromosomes and chase after single thralls that are no where near what I aimed at.

Just to clarify as well when i made this post, I dont mean making subclasses exactly like d1, just as customizable. I just hate having to use a subclass because i like some of the perks, but not the others. If i can choose something like what my melee does without it affecting my other abilities. I also feel like it'll fix the issue of bungie always buffing subclasses that never get used. Bungie always have to buff subclasses barely getting used and it either doesn't do anything and people dont use it, or it is too OP and people only run that subclass and nothing else. Subclasses like nova warp or burning maul might get used a bit more if people could run other things with it like the should charge or devour. I just feel like if we could choose our abilities more freely and had some more perks for our subclasses, it might improve destiny and also make it more fun to watch. I'm just tired of seeing the same subclasses everytime i see a good player and would love to see different things being used

Agreed, I lust for Lance novabomb, bloom, angry magic......

5 Replieswasn’t the reason they limited them because they wanted a watered down destiny in vanilla d2? that’s gone, so why are the new trees still here?

The thought of being able to used either of the golden gun skill trees with the throwing knives of the blade barrage tree and having x2 charges with Ophidia spate chest piece and getting a charge back instantly from the gg precision tree paired with the x3 cool down buff of the bb tree and being able to use celestial on top of that 😶 I don’t think I’d ever have to use a gun in destiny again lol
-
It would be nice if they let us choose one perk between 3 options of the current set up we have.. Thats the closest well ever get to the way it was in d1
-
13 Repliesthe D1 system is terrible and anyone who doesn’t feel that way is a brain dead fan boy. if bungie goes back to skill tree Borderlands is what they should look to for how to do things. there are many issues i have with the system in that game but freedom of choice isn’t an illusion like with D1.
-
2 RepliesSimple answer is NO , if wanna D1 stuff just play D1. Simple.
-
Even though I agree, that would call for an overhaul and this late in the game that will never happen. I'd be okay with how things are now if this company wasn't rigging our stats so much let alone the mods we can use. In my opinion, the new system is to cover up the stealth nerfs and to keep our Guardians nerfed.
-
I think the more complex customization should come back, that would be awesome! But I think our super from d2 should stay, personally I like them better than d1
-
9 RepliesNo. Hunters were extremely OP and tanky in d1
-
2 RepliesBro if you watch old bungie vids you can see the Sentinel titan throwing a solar grenade. Or maybe it was a voidwalker use nova bomb and then throw a solar grenade. One of the two. Either way this game was originally supposed to be way more customizable . what I'm trying to say is I agree that subclasses shouldn't be so restrictive.
-
Honestly I'd like to see a rework entirely rather then going back to Destiny 1
-
But then it would break their precious PvP, and we all know Bungie can't balance anything worth shit. Long story short, will never happen due to extremely lazy design, staff, and it doesn't make money like EV does.
-
I think it should be a blend of both since D2 subclass trees have more synergy but D1 made you feel more in control of your subclass. Ex: We still have subclass trees like we do in D1. However each branch should have a mini D1 styled subclass tree within it. That would expand on both D1 and D2. However I highly doubt this will ever happen.

23 RepliesEdited by UMBRALHUNHOW: 5/2/2020 9:05:08 PMSubclasses are perfect right now and synergize with exotics really well. If you can’t make unique and/or interrsting builds that’s because you lack vision and creativity

1 ReplyI heard that the reason they went to subclass trees instead was because a bungie dev got too confused by the subclass nodes
