I already gave up all of my year one weapons and waited years for only a fraction of them to return with random rolls. I speak for myself, but I will not do that again. Sunset weapons that required my time, effort, and money (DLC) to grind? Then you just sunset my wallet and desire to play.
Do. Not. Sunset. Our. Weapons.

23 RepliesThen loot games aren't for you. 1. Bungie is already "sunsetting" your weapons by nerfing them. By making them so weak and so frustrating to you that you stop using them. 2. Without some way to retire power from the game, this game will self-destruct. You'll either get runaway power-creep and the game will turn into a hit-and-giggle joke where nothing is a threat to us. Or Bungie will push back....and every part of the game will turn into the pre-nerf Reckoning. A game where there is no build diversity and isn't fun to play. 3. Every successful loot game has some means of retiring power from the game. By sunsetting weapons, all that Bungie is doing is **finally** accepting that the fact that this rule of good game design actually applies to their game too. Bungie isn't doing this to make you mad. Their doing this to--literally---save the game before it collapses under its own weight. 4. You committed the mortal sin of every loot game. You fell in love with the gear. You never do that for the reason you're experiencing now: The devs ALWAYS have to take either the gear----or the power that the gear represents in the game---AWAY from you. In order to keep the game healthy. So falling in love with your gear is just setting yourself up for inevitable disappointment and frustration. TLDR: None of this is real. Your loot are simply toys to play with....and all toys eventually need to be put away.

I agree with you 100%. Bungie pulled a fast one on us with the BS way they ended D1, no that’s not correct, they out and out lied to us. Then they gave us the privilege to buy new DLC and let us grind for weapons what we already got in D1. I just came back to D2 after a season off, but if they pull this BS again, I’m done for good!!!

15 RepliesSunsetting is a sneaky way of getting players conditioned to accept sandbox rebalancing on a schedule favorable to Bungie’s allocation of FTE’s dedicated to sandbox support. Bungie will not give you anything new. They will reskin or add old weapons that weren’t eligible for god rolls and bait you into chasing the same archetypes over and over endlessly. Power creep is a stupid and intellectually dishonest excuse for this entire exercise. I will quit the game over this decision.

1 ReplyIf they give weapons a shelf life(in pinnacle activities I know) I will deadass drop this game, because Cyberpunk is coming and my time will be much better spent there.
-
1 ReplyThis is how next year there will be content. Hey look everyone!!!!! We will be releasing the widow for you PVP tryhards to go for. It has master of arms, a new perk by the way, and is 900RPM and void and has a nice black and gold color theme like a spiders web!!!!!!!!

Edited by Sekiygibfoo: 5/7/2020 12:13:53 PMI just hope to God Bungie isn't foolish enough to sunset pinnacle weapons. They've already nerfed them, none of them are meta except the sniper, so why sunset such important weapons that take painstakingly long times (longer than exotics) to get? Look at the meta reports and the nerfs and explain to me why the hell sunsetting pinnacles makes sense.
-
39 RepliesSun setting I actually a good idea. not sun setting de-incentives the player to chase loot
-
If they do they sunset me and 7 other accounts in the family. Do not care if it matters to them or not because I know it doesn't but that will be the day it is deleted for good.
-
28 RepliesWhat would be the point of sunsetting anyway? I mean just think about it. They sunset mindbenders, two seasons later they’ve got another shotgun with totally different aesthetic but has the same stats overall as a god roll mindbenders... Lol there’s no point. I like the look and feel of mindbenders so i will always keep my best one. Sunsetting addresses the issue for vault space not loot.

At least all the people who cried about " sparebender " will be happy... While they spam bastion and a side arm. But hey... Let's not talk about actual crutches. It offends people, including community managers 😂.
-
Let me tell you about the next year.... RE SKINS EVERY WHERE!!!!!! they will destroy all our gear to copy and paste in a 'new reskin' gear and you will pay real money for that... All your gear will be useless for the 'new' activities but u can RE FARM IT al over again with a new name and skin

1 ReplyEdited by Vertillian: 5/3/2020 7:25:16 PMI do love the people trying to compare this game to MHW or many RPG's that plan obsolescence into the game from the beginning.... Destiny 2 isn't one of these titles. In D1 they removed this feature because it wasn't working for this franchise and didn't fit the way the loot is in this game. Those other games have very different loot systems and very different game mechanics. There are only 660 weapons in this game, including exotics and Y1/Y2 duplicates, and many guns that are identical archetypes with differing elements. Many are pointing to the lack of usage of the Seraph weapons, and many ignoring the Warmind core system as an example of why guns need to be forcibly retired.... that was a failure of game design. Did the game actively encourage usage of the new mods? How many people even bothered to engage with this season's "activity" after burning out on the obelisks and Vex offensive? How many didn't want to run Lost sectors again? As to the artist's work being wasted if we don't use different weapons.... Well didn't Bungie waste the effort by making Faction armour pointless? How about all the armour and guns that were left behind in D1? How about all the eververse ornaments for legendaries that are being left behind? It is yet another lame excuse for a system that is unimaginably short sighted.
-
Let me remind all of you, that our gear can't be sunsetted if Bungie is just gonna reuse and give it all back to us next year 😏
-
Agreed. I just want to be able to play my favorite game with my favorite weapons and armor with the limited time I have to play.

Edited by TwigTwig: 5/3/2020 8:48:13 PMStill shocked that people think this shambled corpse wearing the skin of Bungie give a damn. 6 years of awful decisions, increased monetization, lazy content, devs that don't/can't even play the game. Find a new hobby.

45 RepliesI am 100% for sunsetting. I’m an MMO style player first and foremost, and I’m tired of feeling obligated to use the same loadout in order to be optimal. I love a fresh set of gear. And I want to have to move on.
-
26 RepliesHere’s an idea, let Bungie make a game and you can either play it or don’t play play it.
-
7 RepliesIf they could just make new decent guns then that would shut everyone up
-
7 RepliesThere is a sunset coming... and it’s for this game.
-
6 RepliesI can't wait to regrind for the same weapons I already have god rolls of because everything just gets reskinned.
-
4 RepliesRetiring weapons would be fine imo if RNG wasnt so bad. For stuff like pinnacle weapons its whatever. But when people spend days, weeks, months grinding for a god roll on something like a mindbenders, spare rations, supremacy, retold tale et cetera just to hear that it’s getting retired it’s kind of dumb. Keep weapon retirement but also make every activity more like Menagerie and forges. You choose your loot beforehand and no time grinding is wasted not even getting the guns you want much less the rolls. It is a much more rewarding, satisfying, and enjoyable experience than grinding something like Reckoning which is so boring and doesnt even give you a drop most of the time or Raids which only give you a few chances per week. Ease off on the layers upon layers of RNG that make grinding legendary weapons an unrewarding and frustrating mess and then we can talk about retiring weapons as they age.

1 ReplySunset Luke Smith instead.
-
1 ReplyMy man. You must not have been around for Taken King. Sunsetting weapons makes space for new and better weapons. I don't get why you'd want to use a weapon you've been using for 2 years. No one cares if you have 20k kills with a Go Figure. And if it really bothers you that much then just don't play.

4 RepliesEdited by Skill Privilege: 4/30/2020 10:24:50 PMThe day they sunset the weapons is the day I stop spending any money on this game.

1 ReplyBump. Click for some salt.
Weapon retirement is a band-aid solution at best, and at worst is the straw that will break the camels back and kill this game for good.
