Leviathan raid - fake version of calus made to test us?
Eater of worlds - cleaning up the leviathan for calus
Spire of stars- cleaning up the leviathan a different way for calus
Last wish - (this one is actually the best of all because a taken ahamkara is some serious shit)
Scourge of the past - fallen got into the city for black armory weapons I think
Crown of sorrow - cleaning the leviathan for calus again
Garden of salvation- we were told to go there to fight a big vex thing by a ball. Not much other explanation.
I know that each boss had evil intentions of some sort, but they don’t have the same feel as the D1 bosses did, in terms of overall importance of beating them.

6 RepliesHalf the raids are clean up on the levithan lol. Insurrection prime I guess I get? They were gonna attack the city maybe? Riven I get though the raid dialogue made it seem like she wanted us to beat her. I have no idea why the sanctified and consecrated minds challenge us unless they're just mad were in the garden which would be a pretty lame plot. Overall the raid plots for d1 were much better. Vog and its lore with kabr Crota and his lore with eris Oryx and his revenge on us directly Aksis and us needing to shut siva down

2 RepliesD1: Vex champion, who controls a massive construct which can manipulate time itself, and who sends you forwards, and backwards through time. Hive Prince, Crota, who slew thousands of Guardians on the moon, and took it from humanity. The Taken King, a hive god, billions of years old, with the power to take entire worlds, and has destroyed hundreds of thousands of planets. Fallen partly possessed by a machine virus, that converts everything it comes back into contact with, and can be used to create practically anything, who plans to use said world ending technology to destroy the Last City. D2: Fat space turtle that makes you run in circles, have a bath in poop water, and kill his dogs. Noice.

Edited by xbroggiex: 4/30/2020 11:36:30 PMLeviathan was just a test from Calus not really a threat at all. Eater of Worlds was just clearing the mouth of the Leviathan so it could continue eating Nessus again not really a threat. Spire of Stars was just protecting the Leviathan from Red Legion and was kind of a threat that if the Red Legion were able to get control of the Leviathan they could turn that massive ship to Earth to consume it and the Traveller. But it is still clearing up the Leviathan for Calus but there was still a bit of a threat to the boss. Last Wish, Yeah not killing Riven would've been an actual detriment to the city and guardians, it could've also caused a lot of very bad problems if it got out of the Dreaming City which it was attempting to do when it was influencing Uldren. Scourge wasn't really meant to be a super big threat since it was a more contained story but if the Fallen were allowed to walk free with the mech they could've brought a lot of destruction to the city as well as a lot more with the knowledge of the Black Armory papers. Crown of Sorrow was basically the most cleaning up Leviathan you can get since the boss was locked in the raid area anyways and its not like he could do much from down there. Garden of Salvation was kind of like a small quest and didn't feel like much of a threat to anyone since there wasn't any looming threat from the boss more so that he just existed. So, out of all those raids there was 3 that had a real threat to them. Scourge Spire of Stars Last Wish So if this is a pattern we might see 3 more raids next that have a big threat to the guardians and the city?

You don’t consider the giant titanfall 2 looking ass Fallen robot a threat? That -blam!- was way more of a threat than the death zamboni from WotM.
-
Agreed. Except for Riven, no boss has really been too much of a threat and we haven’t really had much backstory or build up to them. Things like this are what can elevate the raids beyond its mechanics. I was hoping the Garden of Salvation would have had a more story defining boss as it was such a big part of the story - Quria (think that’s the spelling) Blade Transform was my hope originally.
-
Yea it’s interesting to think about. I’d have to dive into the lore more to see what exactly the garden boss is.
-
Agreed. Last Wish has by far been the best raid they've ever developed both in the sense of lore and gameplay, but the rest of the D2 raids? They have been pretty lackluster. I've been wanting a raid in The Last City, but the backstory of Scourge of the Past really kills it for me. The Fallen infiltrated The Last City somehow, and were only there to steal stuff from a vault? What would've been more interesting is if they HAD stolen these powerful weapons from the vault and were planning to destroy The Last City using them, and we needed to intervene before it was too late. Crown of Sorrow is literally just "I gave this artifact to one of my Shadows and it corrupted him, I couldn't be assed to deal with another problem of mine, so y'all need to do it" The Leviathan raids were extremely lackluster as a whole to be honest. Garden of Salvation is pretty, and that's just about it honestly. The mechanics are infuriating at times and the bosses are hardly memorable. Sanctified Mind and Consecrated Mind... Yeah... Sounds like some random yellow bar mini boss, not Raid Bosses. Last Wish did it right, and I hope the fall DLC sparks some life into the game again, like Forsaken did.
-
3 RepliesYeah I agree. I think Bungie tried to move away from story specific raids as they are largely inaccessible. Take The Dark Below for example, if you didn’t do the raid, the DLC only felt half completed.
-
3 RepliesWell a lot of folks at the end of D1 including the hosts of Guardian Radio (RIP) were wanting cabal raids...and we got them. As for the fallen, I haven't done that raid yet, so I can't compare it with the Wrath of the Machine raid. Last wish was fun. There were many opportunities for shenanigans!
-
5 RepliesThe actual raids are cool, but the raid lairs are were it gets boring.
-
Just need better, more memorable names. "Sanctified Mind' is pretty weak.
-
D1 we defeated gods.. hard to really top that.. odd that the bosses we fightnow seem more powerful than the gods we defeated in d1 and we feel weaker..

1 ReplyEdited by Corrick II: 4/30/2020 1:05:00 PMLore-wise they all pose a serious threat if we just left them alone. The problem though is that after we figure out how to deal with them, they all seem so small. Like Oryx, we killed a godlike alien, so what does that say about any other threat? Nothing seems like an actual world-ending menace anymore because we successfully kill every boss put in front of us. We’re basically just alien exterminators, wearily jumping around the solar system disposing of new pests that move in. It makes boss defeats feel less like a fulfilling triumph and more like a tedious job.

5 RepliesOkay let's look at this with different reframing: Leviathan Raid: Taking on the same gauntlet of challenges that have wiped out entire species before us Eater of Worlds: Eliminating the Vex Mind responsible for the Conversion of Nessus and who is attempting to create a Vex Underworld within the confines of the Leviathan (A vex underworld similar to VoG, or the Pyramidion) Spire of Stars: Eliminating the last of the red legion's command Last Wish: :sunglasses: Scourge of the Past: The Fallen successfully invaded an entire district of the city and brought in a supermassive mech piloted by their rogue prime servitor. Crown of Sorrow: Gahlran could be compared to Crota, both are harbingers of a greater hive ascendant. Garden of Salvation: Eliminating the Vex mind at the very core of the black garden, who has been worshiping and gaining strength from the darkness directly, presumably for eons.

3 RepliesI agree for the most part buuuut.
Scourge of the past - fallen got into the city for black armory weapons I think
Fallen go into the city and basically try to Nuke it from the inside.
Crown of sorrow - cleaning the leviathan for calus again
Stopping Savathun from controlling Calus and his massive army he has aboard the ship.
Garden of salvation- we were told to go there to fight a big vex thing by a ball. Not much other explanation.
Well actually the artifact from the Pyramid ship led us to Garden, killing those Vex Minds pissed the Sol Divisive and the vex invasions started thus leading us to killing the undying mind and thus the sundial and thus Saving saint 14 and thus having the last Psion try to drop the almighty on us and thus whatever happens the next season and remainder of this season.

7 RepliesWas about to tell you not to disrespect my girl Riven like that, but I see you didnt. As you were. Although, on further thought, Insurrection Prime was pretty gnarly. Metal Gear Fallen let loose in the Last City? Thats pretty threatening IMO
-
3 Replies<EoW wasn't really significant, but both CoS and the original Leviathan set up Calus as an ally, one we'll need if we manage to change his mind about... a certain God and its followers. SoS officially ended the Red War. Scourge was... a thing. GoS had no explanation, but by completing the raid you have (once again) told the Deep how powerful we are, and they are adapting in response to that claim.>
-
5 RepliesNo raid boss has been as threatening or fitted into the story as well as Oryx in the whole Taken King expansion. That was the pinnacle of this game - how has it gone so far backwards?
-
2 RepliesBut like, Calus himself is the one who placed the Crown of Sorrow on Gahlran anyway. Gahlran didn't have evil intentions, he was just consumed by the Crown. Both Eater of Worlds and Spire of Stars are things we could have left alone. Argos really couldn't do anything in there, and Val whatshisface... what did he even want again? idk.
-
2 RepliesI mean they do so little in the raid's they barely are 'bosses' when all they do is look at us and occasionally shot at us, then 'stun them' and they become our b****es.
-
Edited by Rabum Alal: 4/30/2020 1:57:04 PMVery true. “Cleaning up for calus again” lmaoooo love it
-
I thought all D1 raids were better and made more sense.
-
Gave up on the Lore a long time ago, just like Bungie
-
1 ReplyI mean... nothing really feels like a threat lore-wise because our Guardian is too damn powerful. Hopefully the Darkness changes that. Something MORE than losing our powers for 30 minutes only to get them back because of a convenient Traveler shard... that's never mentioned in the main story again.

Spot on

7 RepliesSo, Calus is just sorta a massive shitter. The original Leviathan raid was inspired by an Adventure on Nessus, in which Calus is attempting to sway Red Legion troops to join him, but we kinda murdered all of them, with the Adventure ending with us hearing a message by Calus, in which he mentions that he's the god damn Emperor of the Cabal. Cayde is like "shit dude, gotta talk to Ikora about this, we should probably kill him." So we hop on over to the Leviathan and kill him, and at the end of the raid, he's like "shit dude, that was hot. I want you to be my personal kill boy now, you know, kill shit for me." And basically all of the raids following that are like "See how much good shit you get when you work with me?" And the Spire of Stars being inspired by our hatred of the Red Legion Then Garden, the ball was found in the Pyramid Ship, so Eris is like "shit dude, we can maybe get a one up on the physical incarnation of the Darkness, we should probably do that."
