Considering the hurdles around using Sturm Overcharge and how even Drang on its own would do everything it's trying to do in half the time now with the sidearm buff, Sturm is just a cool looking, decent handcannon roll with a curiosity perk.
Also yes, I know this gun is old now, but a man can dream of a Destiny that has more fun gun fantasies and exciting crucible loadout variety can't he?
It needs:
For PVP:
Remain x1 overcharge for Drang kill in Crucible but....
1-tap headshot for Sturm overcharge in the Crucible. Call me crazy if you want, but in a competitive match getting a Drang kill when you're up against so many other weapon types (especially specials) that can kill instantly at close range, or pick a Drang user off at medium-long range; you have to be a pretty certified badass to run in with a sidearm and score kills with Drang over the meta-choices.
The exotic perk should reward this with a 1-tap headshot for Sturm (within its effective range ofc). Getting that perfect 1-tap even with a handcannon after the Drang-proc isn't always easy either, and it makes this gun something to be feared rather than a cool "Han Solo Gun" vault warmer. And also makes it live up to the "Pistol Duelist" weapon fantasy it's going for; yet keeps it balanced as you're sacrificing a special weapon for a high-risk, high-reward dual primary loadout.
For PvE:
The current Drang overcharge drops are not really applicable to any activity other than maybe free roaming destinations. Sturm is great when you've got a lot of bullets in it, but unless you're in an activity with swarms of enemies proc'ing them Drang kills, you're always left feeling like Sturm comes up short in either DPS for boss', clearing ads, or really anything at all except a way to finish off a major here and there in style.
Because of this I think it should drop more ammo in PvE, or even drop more ammo from Drang killing majors or boss types considering how much work Drang has to do for 1 overcharge shot. It could be something like x5 or x10 for a major to make it interesting, and to make the player then want to use Drang and have that synergy with the dual primaries load out.
What do my guardian buds think? Crazy or cool?

It doesn’t need all that. It’s already pretty decent in quickplay and it’s actually hilariously good in gambit. Stack up overcharge rounds and invade. You can 2 shot body people like nothing. It’s pretty much a way better Machine gun while invading.

2 RepliesDrang is currently the best sidearm in the game and you want it to buff sturm to 1tap? Nononononono. No.
-
As someone who has run the Sturm and Drang in Y1 and lately? Sorry, but no. I could see a buff that would allow you to keep your overcharge even through death, but not powered more than it is now. I recommend trying quick access sling on Drang for a quick mop up shot with Drang. In PvE, it still works quite well with whatever you do. I ran Altars of Sorrow earlier and it did work. If I were to change anything on it, I would maybe add an elemental damage or firefly to it when charged.

I think you can actually one-shot with it, but you need an overcharged round and either an empowering rift, weapons of light, lumina buff or inertia override. Requires a little more set-up and finesse, but will reward players who can learn the playstyle.

Edited by Unbreakable Patches: 4/28/2020 1:19:14 AMSturm already two shots when it’s charged up. 1 tapping in PvP would be absurd.

Sturm is fine in PvP. The only thing is that 110s are trash. Return the range to 110s and it would be great again

What bungie should do. Either make sturm as it is...a legendary. Or give us dual vangaurd pinacles next season that do the same thing as sturm and drang. Like a heavy linear fusion. and a secondary normal adaptive fusion. Get 2 kills with the adaptive fusion to load 1 overcharged round into your power linear fusion that does 200% crit damage.
-
Or allow all primary energy weapons to load the rounds in, drang is good, but is holding the weapon back...

18 RepliesWhat a perk that doesn’t have a timer that allows for a 2 taping hand cannon isn’t enough? Come on you’re crazy.
-
sturm and drang are still the best weapons imo, screw mindbenders.. screw the meta! y1 weapons all the way
-
It does need a buff imo but one tappings too much

Edited by Akira: 4/27/2020 12:00:39 AMYou’re crazy if you think 1 tapping with a hand cannon is justified for getting a sidearm kill. Drang with revoker is busted, sidearms aren’t hard

5 RepliesI use sturm/drang a lot in crucible and I disagree with this. While it would be neat, imcfine 2-tapping people with an ancient weapon that sits in most peoples vaults just for the fact that it tells them they got killed by Sturm. Plus, its amusing when they have the chance to panic when they peek out, get shot, and one of 2 things happens 1. They stay there thinking "I have the advantage, hes using a hand cannon and is half health" because they don't pay attention to their own health then suddenly die OR 2. They peek, get shot, go wtf, and disappear like the dickens. If Sturm was 1-shotting people with overcharge rounds, everyone would be using it - there goes variety. People who didnt use it would be all over the forums crying about it being OP, and then it would get nerfed to uselessness. Id much rather have it stay as is than have it nerfed and become a vault collectible.

3 RepliesI don't care what kind of exotic you have. No primary should be one-shotting people. Ever. Frankly Sturm is in need of a total redesign. Sturm/Drang can be very good but Sturm w/o Drang is garbage. Weapon partnering is fine but it's essentially just an exotic that takes two weapon slots.
