Destiny would be better off as an open world RPG

Loading different destinations and planets could work like the Witcher 3, there should be settlements and Human/alien villages or camps you can explore/interact/destroy, we should have a karma option of being good or being evil just like Red Dead Redemption 2 and our karma would decide which ending we’ll receive. I really don’t think Destiny as it currently is can support our thirst for playability/enjoyment whilst also maintaining a stable system, just think of how boring and broken everything is in the game at the moment. Also PvP could be separated completely away from PvE so our amazing weapons won’t become dismantled trash because of Nerf Herders. We should also have more depth to our characters and give them more humanity by introducing loss, drama, romance, etc. because I’m honestly tired of hearing about how “x” character is important or “y” person is so badass, yet they only have 1 or 2 memorable moments and the rest is just random NPC dialogue. Also can we please, pretty please free roam the Last City? The game always talks about us saving humanity, yet we can’t go grab a burrito down the street in the city, get recognition and dialogue with fans, and have a few extra tacos on the house for slaying Oryx. I’d also venture to say we’re better off making this game M rated instead of the current T rating. There’s no way throughout all the years of Destiny we’ve only had 1 or 2 curse words and literally a few dark and no brutal moments, we need to have a more emotional investment in the game in order for it to be worth while. All in all this game would be better off if it was treated like the Witcher, Star Wars, or Game of Thrones, because as it stands, this game is NOT memorable, there’s literally nothing worth investing into the game other than “shoot and blow up the same aliens for the past 6 years” DISCLAIMER: I have my own head-canon and I am not afraid to use it!! Edit: I gotta go take a big fat Eververse Edit 2: You should also add animals, I’d love to see how my Warlock manages getting attacked by a pack of wolves or getting dragged into a murky swamp by a giant alligator, also an interesting way to add more variety of War-beasts and other alien animals (I’m guessing screebs and thralls count as animals because of that Lost Sector right next to Spider in the Tangle Shore). Mechanics for combating animals and getting mauled to death should be a great addition as well

Destiny needs some major changes, but an RPG is not what destiny is. It wouldn’t be as fun either.
i can’t believe you want the game to be rated M for masochist. You basically want a brand new game called destiny. get a different game if this is what you want.
• No. Fps elements are the strongest mechanics this game has. Bungie doesn’t know how to RPG. Just look at how stupid, confusing, and pointless XP & power level progression is. Bungie would be better off having a mod based / build craft model instead.

    • The Destiny franchise has COVID-19 and is on a breathing ventilator in a retirement home. The future does not look good at all. D3...if there is one, will be the most elaborate Candy Crush ever. These guys are only interested in perfecting the art of extracting money from gamers while producing the least amount of playable content outside of never ending bounty grinds. I’m not at all surprised though after watching people throw thousands of dollars away every year on Dallas Cowboy football games for two+ decades of pure shit.

    • To be honest and this is simply just my opinion, but I think the whole franchise and company would do much better if Bungie simply got rid of Luke Smith, I mean does the guy really do his job, Game Director yet he can't appear to be doing his job if so much crap if coming through the game. It's not just a title Luke, you actually have to do some work!.

    • No. That's beyond stupid. The game barely works right as it is and is increasingly unstable with every new update. Making it what they promised back before D1 released wouldn't be possible. It would require serious changes and even more serious money to dump into it. Plus they'd have to have actual dedicated servers and they're too cheap to do that.

If CyberPunk delivers as a combination of Destiny and GTA while giving players a varied enough loot pool, I’ll gladly uninstall this game and spend my playtime there. The reason I like pvp so much is because people are the only real competition in this game, and taking on different play styles is fun. I hope CyberPunk offers that. Your ideas sound really engaging, and I’d love to play a Destiny 3 that was more an amalgamation of Destiny, Borderlands, GTA and the Witcher; I’m afraid that level of care for nuance and player experience is beyond what Bungie is capable of. And it’s sad, cause they have the capabilities, but if we can conclude anything from their past behavior is that they’re only in it for profit. Like research bases or excavation sites on Nessus or settlements being attacked by Cabal on EDZ, or smugglers at the Reef, those would all be really cool ways of making patrol better. Scientist Betty wants you to gather gaskets from the Vex to help power her mining equipment. Betty’s hot. I’m getting those gaskets. (jk). Making different silos for PVP and PVE would help them balance more, and allow them to go more over the top with the power fantasy and enemies, which would make me wanna play it more. Hiring, honestly, three graphic designers who do nothing, literally nothing, but just design the new gear for every season and then the sandbox guys can come up with the stats would be awesome. Or being able to explore the city and engage with npcs would make me feel more invested in this city I’ve spent literal years of my life protecting. You’re right: dialogue, choices, drama would make the game feel more alive. And it wouldn’t be hard. Imagine, if every planet also had 5 locations and every settlement had 5 npcs to interact with and have conversation with. Honestly, bros, how much time would that take? Like Bungie, this is your actual job. This is what you do. Then I can watch videos of Myelin Games explaining why Jack from EDZ is secretly a spawn of an Ahamkara and he’s here to Herald the apocalypse. You know? Simple ish.

Adding my bits to this discussion: 1) Switch all of the RPG elements back to a Character Level system. 2) Start all six stats at 5. Every level up gives one stat point. Level cap at 30 to begin with, all stats should be at 10 by end of main story (calling it "Dawnpath" from now on, signifying the player's journey from being a simple Lightbearer to actually becoming a Guardian) 3) Elements (Solar, Arc, Void) earned every 10th level, can freely rotate between all three. Will determine grenade, melee and Super as per usual, but not attached to class. 4) Every Level Up after 30 gives the player Guardian Points (GP), similar to Paragon Points in Diablo 3. ( Interchangeable, can be reset and reallocated to suit player's preferred style. 5) Enough points in certain stats will allocate a Class to the player. Example: pouring points into Strength and either Resilience or Recovery will turn the player into a Titan. 6) Class perks will focus more on player roles in Fireteams. Example: Titans are the Tanks of the Fireteam, with perks making their defenses and aggro higher than the other classes. 7) Element chosen will determine Subclass and provide unique bonuses to players. Example: Sentinels have the highest defense and perks that provide more protection for your Fireteam, while Strikers have better offense and perks that improve player mobility and area-of-effect attacks. 8) When the next major content drops, GP is reset in exchange for a five point boost in every stat and players can earn stat points again, reaching the new max stat level at the new expansion's Level Cap. But what about Crucible? 9) Crucible unlocks at Level 30. GP is locked out. No classes, no element advantage and no PvE weapons, providing a neutral battleground. 10) Weapons for PvP will be in a more closed off meta that Bungie will be able to adjust and tweak without having to scale against PvE. PvE armor can be worn into Crucible, but Perks are disabled. Keep your look, but not the benefits. 11) Crucible gameplay will focus more on player skill and ability loadout, allowing players to still fight how they want with their preference of weapon types and abilities. However, the focus will entirely be on striking a reasonable balance in terms of damage output, TTK and other things that are vital to PvP. But I don't want to play the "dumb" story just to shoot other players. 12) Shaxx will have a questline for those who want to skip the story and go into PvP earlier. Completion of this questline will be mandatory for all seeking to enter PvP early and will limit anyone who will try to smurf or circumnavigate bans.

      • Lets go one step further. Every time players kill a certain faction mob a "Faction Rage Bar" increases. All mission/raid/dungeon activity adds to this over time. If players kill enough of a mob and it reaches 100% "Faction Rage", that faction starts a large scale assault on the Tower which disables the vendors until players kill everything ( a number of waves increasing in difficulty). With all players getting resource and other rewards for bringing the tower back online. Players can either sit their and do nothing and lose access to tower vendors or they can join in to bring them back online faster.

I personally feel if pvp was removed from destiny, the game could actually become more fun. That or at least just let pvp be an arcade mode that awards little things like materials, shards etc. Ive been playing destiny for years and ive always been the pvp guy, I was that guy going flawless every weekend back in D1 and after so many years later Ive come to enjoy pve more. The builds you can make on pve, the power fantasy you feel when exotics or supers work. Pve is more fun, as a solo player ive stayed away from pve as a whole but after the zero hour bug, I was able to actually get the weapon and complete the catalyst on my own. It was actually fun soloing it and I wish we have more content like that with the same difficulty of the bugged zero hour since it was finally doable for a solo player. Pvp actually ruins destiny and I see that now

          • I honestly think Destiny would be better off if it stopped trying to be an MMO and just focus on the loot in shoot it basically is. While yes it is an rpg, looking at how a game like Borderlands has performed it's much clearer that would be the better route for this game. The problem with Destiny trying to be a MMO is the whole FOMO and dynamic "living" world design philosophy. While I get some people don't want a Destiny 3 because it means starting over, that's literally how most games with sequels are. And given how big this game is now and how they are only making temporary content that's only around for a few months just to remove permanently (paid for content, mind you) it seems like a poor investment overall. This game can't compete with other MMOs out there, so why try and force it when it'd thrive more as a looter based rpg

If it weren’t for PvP players... Whisper, Sleeper, super return exotics, Izanagi’s, PvE sniper damage, auto-reload mechanics, Wardcliffe Coil PvE damage, and Recluse (just to name a few) would never have been nerfed in PvE!!! EDIT: Is it really that hard for some of y’all to recognize sarcasm lol???
