If you aim for a brief time while airborne, weapons gets noticeably more accurate. At least I've found this to be the case with hand cannons. I can reliably hit a target while airborne from ~20m, even if I'm aiming at the head and hit the body. Who knows with precision shotguns though. The range for one hit kill is hard-capped at 9m regardless of archetype and range & impact stats. A Legend of Acrius maaaay OHK a tier 0 resilience at 10m with good rng. So instead of doing the math, the game might just say the hell with it - you missed. It's Bungie after all.
