Edit: I am adding this math to really put the grind to get these catalyst into perspective: Assume 10 mins for a strike, PvP, and gambit match. 10*400= 4000mins. 4000/60 = 66.67 let’s round that to 67 hours. I will be generous and say I play 6 hours a day. 67/6 = 11.167 let’s round that 11.2 days. This means to get this catalyst I need to play 11 days of nothing but strikes, PvP, and gambit matches. That’s 2 weeks or half a month out of a 3 month season just to get these catalyst. Remember getting the catalyst doesn’t mean you can use the catalyst right away! You have to get 500 kills after that to use the benefits of the catalyst. It’s just insane on all levels on how much effort these things require and they make these exotics feel usable. I didn’t play much during shadowkeep and Season of Dawn because of life, but I have played enough to get symmetry and erianas vow catalyst. So far I have 167 and 191 done for each catalyst out of 400 after playing IB this entire week. This is just insane. Doing 233 more strikes, crucible, and/or gambit will take me so long that I don’t think I can finish them until September at best. What makes it even worse is that this is just to get the catalyst to drop. After you get it, you have to get at least 500 kills with those two weapons to actually use the catalyst benefits! On top of that activities like Raids, Dungeons, Nightmare Hunts, Heroic Menagerie, and the newly seraph tower public events don’t even grant any progress. That’s what I do majority of the time I play and they don’t even count towards the catalyst drop. Doing those should award me the most progress towards this because they are the hardest to do! They shouldn’t be this useless for catalyst progression because the goal is get it as a reward for playing whatever you like, it’s clearly not achieving that right now in a way that is reasonable. So what can be done to fix this? The solutions I came up with are: 1. Let the season pass catalyst booster perk work for these things. 2. Give bonus progress to following activities: Raids(3x), Prestige Raids(4x), Dungeons(1.5x), Legend and Master Nightmare Hunts(1.5x&2x), Legend Master and Grandmaster Nightfalls(2x,3x,&4x), 100K Nightfalls(1.5K), Heroic Menagerie(1.5x), Solo Dungeon clears(2x), Winning a match in comp(1.5x), Going flawless in tails gets you 3x for the rest of the week you play I trails. 3. Give us a 2x bonus progress for using the weapon in those activities. It’s just shocking that using Symmetry in IB gave me no extra progress on the catalyst. It’s a good weapon but can you say the same thing about Erianas Vow wth it’s god awful handling? I would love for all 3 of these to be implemented, but with the virus and dead lines to I can understand if only one of these is implemented. If that’s the case please make number 1 and 3 a priority because the majority is not like me doing Raids and legend nightfalls. They play strikes, PvP, and Gambit most of the time so that would be the most beneficial for everyone. From the next season and on though I would like to see these 3 implemented for them. If none of these implemented in the next coming months or next season Tommy’s match book will suffer the same fate as Erianas Vow and I would be very disappointed. I think this way of earning a exotic catalyst is a welcomed addition however if we can iron out the issues I have mentioned above then this will be my preferred way for getting exotic catalyst rather than relying on RNG. I still don’t have so many catalyst like Legend of Acrius because of RNG and this lets me get the catalyst I want without the blessing of the games RNG. I just want a clear path to making my exotics powerful and this system achieves that, but it really needs those issues ironed out to be great. I am not saying exotics and their catalyst should be handed out left and right. I just want to get them faster by working harder like doing a raid instead of strikes. Don’t worry about big 3x or 4x gains because those activities take way longer than 3-4 strikes assuming you do a strike every 10mins.
