Was a big change they made for PS4... PS3 was the last console from SONY that "truly" offered a lot of free online multiplayer. It was a big thing back in the day because Microsoft was requiring their service for online play back then. Caused a lot of chatter when SONY announced they were also making their service a requirement for online multi-player content on the PS4's. You are not actually paying for the game by the way. You are paying for Sony's online service and 2 free games a month (used to be more when they offered free PS3 and Vita games also). The game is a free download, and there is no subscription fee for access. It really is not a bad deal if you subscribe annually... especially so if you buy the subscriptions on sale (always someone offering a discount around Christmas, and a few other times throughout the year). And the subscriptions stack... one year both Walmart and Bestbuy were offering a year for $40. I bought one from each and had 2 years paid for. Think about it... even if you pay the full price for an annual subscription, for a little more than the price of one game at full retail, you get 24 games throughout the year.

You can play it. You just can’t access all activities. Bungie did not decide that you need PS Plus, Sony did. No offence, but as PS Plus is required to play 99% of not-free games online, why did you buy a console for which you can’t afford to buy games?
