Controller feedback! Why is traction necessary?

As a console player that plays pc occasionally, I’ve noticed there is a big discrepancy between mouse and keyboard input and controller. M+k is the more accurate input, which is obvious. However, it intrinsically has increased stability and less bloom. Not to mention, m+k can turn at full speeds during sprint aka traction. This a problem on console because it tends to hurt the actual gunplay of the game. I had a friend that first started playing the game and was confused why sprinting would slow the turn speeds. I had to explain to him that a mod was necessary to fix it. I feel like this conversation didn’t even have to happen. If a player doesn’t have traction they are in a big disadvantage in this game. This is just like sprint cooldown in D1, it’s unnecessary, it shouldn’t be a perk. It should automatically be applied to everyone. Same with the stability values on controller. Compared to D1, there is way less aim assist (which is actually a good thing), but way more recoil to weapons. I really hope this gets addressed at some point, along with the way flinch works. But I guess I can only dream :(

    I was switching from XBox to PC and i'm playing with Controller because i've no space for an PC table to Player with m+k. Every time when i'm playing destiny i hope that they fix traction and change it like an extra mod place only for this perk or something. The most time i'm playing pve and i always be anouyed that i can't take two different scavanger mods for GMs as example like my friends, who are playing with m+k. Please change it Bungie. Sorry for my bad english.

  • Maybe I'm crazy but I play 3 sense. I can't imagine running 10 sens + traction, I get it's good for shotgun dueling but its beyond me how any of you guys aim primaries

            There is zero recoil on PC, basically every weapon feels the same in that regard. On console one of the first things I'd look at on most weapons is the stability stat, on PC it just doesn't matter. Want a real wacked out experience? Play with a controller on PC. It's so bizarre how different the game is, and using a controller almost feels like cheating in PvP. The aim assist and bullet magnetism is ridiculous. There's a reason that some of the ex console streamers still use a controller on PC. EDIT: Okay, I was trolling. It's definitely NOT like cheating lol... I will say this though, aim assist feels stronger and so does bullet magnetism vs. console, maybe it's to try to make it viable on PC?. It could be that it just feels that way because the recoil is way more manageable not sure? The main point is Destiny is a completely different game on PC, and playing with a controller on PC is a completely different experience vs. console. Another thought, maybe it's just 100+fps vs. 30fps, either way though I think they should take a look at the console version and try to balance that out more. Anyway sorry for the troll, I don't typically do that but I knew it would be a hot topic hehe... Kind of sad that this is the most replies I've ever had to a comment....

            • Easiest fix, separte values for X and Y sensitivity. Also make them decimals, for fine tuning, and allow for higher sensitivity, maybe 15, or 20. May seem suicidal to use a sens that high, but its all about that custom feel. Also please Bungie, add button remapping, controller schemes are outdated.

            • Traction should be an inate perk on all legs. A simple QoL improvement like the Sprint delay from D1 to D2

            • Finally someone said it. I came from Xbox and thus playing D2 with gamepad. Controller is per se worse than M&K, but in D2 its even worse, cuz Bungie cant adapt it in the game. I mean this called "strong aim assisst" isnt there. I must take targeting adjuster. But PC also got those mods, so no recoil and aim assist for PC, for real? Every fight at a range 25-30+ meters I will usually lose, when the enemy is decent and playing some PvP. The new last word, according to Drewsky, was swapped, so now on M&K its like on controller and vice versa, but people are already complaining how bad this is. Come on, all my weapons are bad like this one, besides snipers, although there is also no " op stickeness" . Thorn, god spare rations etc. I just cant use it, because of my input methode. Why is there a difference? A console game developer cant freaking establish "normal" gamepad control, it must be a freaking joke! Really interesting why people didnt start to complain before. Werent there a lot of controller players or what?

            • I'm constantly posting about this I really hope bungie takes note of some bodys comments. Especially with these next gen consoles comming up having new controllers that are specifically designed for just such things. Feed back boosters in the triggers. So that when you hit the gas on your sparrow you can actually feel some throttle. Actually feel the pressure of squeezing tour gun. Just one more thing in how many years 3 4? 5 that bungie has not addressed. Simple snuff fix.

            • Just buy a xim apex it will allow you to use MKB and get the aim assist of a controller. Google it.

              • See I've been a console player since d1, and I've never even noticed this. Just don't bum rush everything with a shotgun and turning while sprinting stops being a huge factor. I only normally put mobility based mods on for jumping puzzles, and I usually reasonably well in pvp. I don't even remember the last time I had traction on

              • Because if you play hunter it gives you points towards to a your dodge cooldown. As it grants plus 5 on top of a hidden stat bonus to mobility of plus 15.

                • I think the main problem (which is also the reason you need traction) is the fact you can't change your ads sensitivity from your non ads sensitivity. If I want to be able to move I have to run 7+ if I want to primary dual better I need 3-4...... sucks sacrificing the ability to aim to be able to just move without feeling like a slug... then couple in recoil and it makes the whole experience feel extremely clunky. 🤔 but the reason m+kb doesn't have recoil is because it wouldn't feel good to pull down on a mouse 🤔🤔 right lol. This is the main reason I stopped watching 99% of the PC youtubers that I used to watch when they were on console. They'll be like omg this weapon is amazing it has no recoil.. i'll use it and be shooting at the ceiling in 2 seconds (i'm being facetious). They either need to bump up controller to the same levels as m+kb or dumb down m+kb to controller levels so everyone is playing the same game. Plus it'll make me actually understand weapon nerfs like tlw which wasn't OP on console at all.

                    • I used to play console until cross save and traction made 0 noticeable difference, i only use it for +5 mobility otherwise it basically does nothing.

                      Hey douche get off the forums lol. Im glad controllers need tractions, give your ass a reason to come over to pc and use mouse and keyboard. Get off console scrub XD. I’m trolling by the way, he’s my younger brother. Traction should not be a requirement for controller users, it should’ve been implemented from he start.

                      • Now that I've spent over 2,000 tokens with Shaxx to get the mod, I don't really care. The game should just control like the Traction mod is on by default though. Making your game feel like you're controlling through tar just to add some grind is about the lowest form of game design you can have. Its amateur and pathetic.

                          • It is terrible that to not be maneuverability challenged, you have to have a specific mod on every pair of pants. Especially now that the perks are so limited as to where you can apply them. Basically, every pair of 2.0 pants I get only has 7 points available for perks in 2 slots as 3 are automatically put into Traction.

                            • Spot on. This was one of the main reasons I decided to stop playing Destiny. I always ran armour with traction, but after armour 2.0 I couldn’t get traction to drop, burned through thousands of gunsmith materials and crucible / vanguard tokens and nope. Only Bungie could be so stupid as to design something like this. Also, to have a FPS in 2020 with no custom settings for controller is laughable. It was always hard moving between destiny and other shooters because of this, but luckily it’s not something I have to worry about now as I havn’t touched this game in months. Bungie need to look at what other devs are offering in terms of fine tuning how your controller feels and feel humbled.

                              • I honestly think traction should just be made intrinsic at this point. It’s become pretty much a must-run and if it is only affecting consoles, seems weird to make consoles run a mod to equal what PC gets all the time lol

                                  Have you ever tried running before? Probably have, but have you ever tried to turn while running? Again probably have. Now this is something few try and that is full run and turn on a dime 90 degrees. If anyone is familiar with law of motion and also bodies physical limitations. Your going to be on the ground or hurt yourself trying stop motion to make the turn. Yea yea this is a game blah blah blah. No matter how super duper of a de-powered Bungie guardian you are. Your still top heavy which causes the above either way. How a bloom which is basically recoil. Ever shot a real gun? Yea they move around on you also no matter how strong you are. See Kentucky Ballistics who is stacked and even a 45 ACP recoils. Simply put here is what needs to happen. If console has it then PC needs it to. So if recoil (bloom, such a stupid term) is on console so does PC. Just because you can point and click doesn’t excuse you from real physics. Crisis had realistic recoil. Nobody cried about it then. Even in that game you couldn’t turn on a dime. That game your suite was like strapping on the hulks muscles. Note I said full run no holds bar. Not reasonable run as the game was essential a jog then full speed ahead including lead up time. Like real life in a way, even sprints are built up even a few seconds.
