Many of the destiny 2 speed running community has been outraged due to the recent changes about relic, sword, and worldline skating. The only sense of acknowledgement we have received is a tweet about how the speed community will be able to adapt and overcome. Right there is where our troubles begin. I have been in love with destiny since the moment I logged on to the d1 beta. I also have a Bungie account linked for 9 years, countless hours on destiny 1, destiny 2, and many of the old halo games under Bungie’s name. I have stuck with this community for the entirety of Destiny, and this specific change is what might jeopardize that. After running so many raids and doing so many strikes, I began taking up speed running. One of the only things Keeping me on destiny is hopping on with my fireteam, getting our strats together, and running for hours at a time to try and beat our best times. The way we run speeds have been entirely flipped, to a point where it’s no longer worth running because we cannot come even close to matching our old times. This isn’t an adaptable change if it’s been used over a long 2 years of speedrunning. The way speeds are done is shaped by this, Bungie taking this away and shunning the speed community without any insight as to its removal, even though it doesn’t hurt any aspect of the game or community, just shows how little they care about the community I am so proud to be a part of. The runs that we spent days and literal weeks perfecting through trial and error can no longer be beaten. This change is killing our community, the majority of us who ran speeds have already uninstalled. We are all upset because we feel directly targeted. The rework to swords was actually was handled very well, however the removal of glide during sword/relic animations came out of nowhere. Worldline Zero was one of the few weapons destiny still has that felt truly exotic. The ability to speed around the map was so enjoyable, and made the mundane tasks in destiny slightly more bearable, and it made our speed runs much more unique than any game I’ve ever played. While this mechanic was never intended, the community has fallen in love with it, it’s use in casual play, hardcore raiding, and exploring the map simply cannot be matched. When it comes to the issue of character diversity, the opportunity for positive change really shines. We’ve seen how the removal of skating affects the community, there’s an opportunity to bring it back for all characters.
