D1 was the experimental game part FPS, part third person, part MMO. Bungie was still learning how to make Destiny a game that combined those aspects properly. D2 was supposed to have been the sequel that Bungie learned from their mistakes and successes of D1, But D2 still doesn't have an identity as to what kind of game it should be. To me it seems Bungie doesn't have an idea what kind of the developer they should be. They knew they were going to be splitting from activision and didn't seem to prepared well enough for that split. That seems to be what is hurting the development of D2.
D2 year one relied more upon the FPS aspect of the game, while year two relied more upon the MMO aspect. Now in year 3 Bungie has resorted to cheap MMO tactics such as copy and paste horde modes, and bounty grind. The only FPS aspect of this game now relies upon crucible. Gone is story that we actually interacted with and had been fed since 2014 ( looking at you exo stranger), Now all we do is watch a cutscene that takes place somewhere and then we grind bounties and horde modes until the start of a new season, where then we rinse and repeat the same thing over and over. Gone are strikes that continued story lines or finished story lines. In its place we have Bounty grind the game.
Remember when we fought oryx in his throne room and kicked his ass then we played a raid that ended him and that brought a conclusion to the Taken King yeah good times. Remember when we did a horde mode in the black garden, the did a horde mode in the sundial, the did a horde mode in the EDZ, Moon and Io, and Bungie calls it content, Yet to other triple a developers that would be and extra game mode that doesn't affect story mode at all or isn't considered story mode. If you don't it's because you're sheep and probably have spent too much at eververse.
Really D2 and Bungie needs to find its identity sooner rather than later and lean on it harder instead of this flip flopping that has brought us to a game that has us playing horde modes for 4 months and only having "content" which is a rinse and repeat just with a different theme 3 out of those four months.

21 RepliesThey do have an idea of what they want. It just isn't what the majority of their player base wants. They have tried 3 different iterations of this design and each time players stopped playing and they were forced to move away from their vision. Their vision is WoW with easily balanced but bland weapons and abilities that allow a competitive Halo style pvp mode.
