I am a longtime D2 player that really enjoyed Season of Dawn, especially since the on ramp point into the Sundial was straight to letting me play the new content, which really was helped by the leveling changes made during Shadowkeep. Season of the Worthy, unfortunately, makes leveling feel like it took a really big step back. The main problem is that the Seraph towers are not a good on ramp point, with the power delta making players feel particularly weak. That has also revealed other problems with the leveling system that should be fixed, and that I want to give my feedback on.
1. Make exotics that I get from collections be at my level. There isn't any reason that they shouldn't be at my level, and the annoyance of having to infuse it, and giving up a legendary piece that I also invested in, limits experimenting with different exotic armor builds.
2. Add smart RNG. RNG leveling is becoming an extreme pain, with having to do milestones again and hoping that it goes onto the weakest slot, but it going onto something else. Have it automatically be aimed at my weakest slot so that my time doesn't feel wasted, especially if it is an activity that I don't like at all.
3. Get rid of pinnacles power. While hardcore people might see value in pinnacle power, it is just a number that doesn't do much to really to the game's depth. While I see that it gives hardcore players something to pursue, it is just a number that ends up not meaning much when the power cap goes up all together. Getting titles, cosmetics, or unique weapons are what motivates players to go into the hard content, which is why I support sunsetting weapons. If sunsetting weapons allows for actually unique legendaries and more powerful exotics, hardcore players will accept it if the guns are good enough. Pinnacle power also ends up giving a bigger edge to hardcore players, and limits how much skill matters in trials, since they both have artifact power as well as pinnacle power. Just having soft and hard caps to power with going to milestones for a quicker path is the best way for it.
4. Have all legendaries dropping at the level of my slot it goes in The best part of Shadowkeep's leveling change is that it allowed me to gap fill in my weakest slot. The chance of it dropping at my level was definitely an improvement that makes all legendaries matter, but it doesn't necessarily go far enough. When every bit of power matters in something like Seraph towers, having it be even a handful of power points down makes it sting a bit much. Infusing it to my highest level is simple, but it feels a bit too costly in that I lose a legendary gear at that highest slot level, and it having good perks makes it sting more.
Overall, I do love the game, but this season seems like it will be a rough patch. Given that it takes time for feedback to go into effect, please try to do these things in time for Year 4. In the meantime, watch out for the coronavirus.
