        • Any particular reason? Or you just wanted to say it's stupid with no reasoning? It's actually a necessary thing to keep the game exciting, we will actually get unique and fun weapons again.

I am amazed by how many people think this is about Bungie creating new and exciting weapons. It's not. It's about extending play time. The biggest indicator of buying stuff is time spent playing the game. Regrinding for weapons increases play time. The "new weapons" will be almost exactly like the old ones. If they were new and exciting, people would grind for them without the need for weapon retirement. This change isn't meant to benefit players. It is meant to benefit Bungie. I don't mind them making $$$, that's what business is all about, but I am more likely to give them money for a product I enjoy as opposed to something with artificially extended playtime where I feel like the subject of some psychological experiment.

            • It’s their weak attempt at making things ‘new and exciting’ over the actual hard work required to really make the game feel fresh, which would require reworking most of the old content and creating new gameplay mechanics.

                • I too don't like the idea of weapons being retired. But the power is truly in the players' hands, if this really bothers you as a fan of this game you can STOP PLAYING IT! Also make sure to speak with your wallet and don't give Bungie any of your money! I bought Destiny 2 during E3 2019, I had played the beta and could see that Destiny 2 was going to have a lot of problems at release and it did! So I waited until most of the issues were fixed and ended up paying so much less for the game, but I promised myself that if the game ever became like a 2nd job I would stop playing it. And with the way the Seasons pass has played out that's exactly how I've felt over the past 3 months, that coupled with this latest announcement has convinced me that it's time to stop playing this game. And with Bungie making Destiny 2 free to play, if I feel the need to I can jump back in to get a quick fix or play with friends whenever I want.

                • I think it kinda funny how people are complaining about weapon retirement, yet no one is say a word about trail having all the same maps as D1 and the same weapons and armor. So the whole season is based on stuff everyone in D1 already had. So Let the regrinding begin!

                  • Not really it makes other new things viable and freshens up the sandbox in PVE/PVP and Luke Smith said every 9 to 15 months this would happen so it's not going to happen that long. And with how often Legendary gear and weapons drop now it's not an issue. Besides if we never changed things it would lead to power creep and the game would get extremely dull and boring.

                  • Possible benefits of weapon retirement aside, everybody is overreacting about this. Let's think for a moment, what activities will semi-require you to grind for higher level weapons? -Trials -Iron Banner -New Raids -Grandmaster or above Nightfalls -New odd endgame activities That's it. Strikes, forges, patrols, quickplay, comp, old raids, Menagerie, Reckoning, Gambit, heroic story missions, Nightmare hunts, etc; your old gear will still be viable in the vast majority of the game.

                    • Here is the reason weapon retirement works. One it forces the meta to change without constantly having to monitor the sandbox every single season. Second it forces you to work at new content in ways you have not had to, creating a fresh experience. The reality is the reason the game is getting stale is that no one wants to give up their god roll weapons in PvE or PvP. Its the same 5-10 weapons in use for both and that is a problem. No one is forcing you to never use the weapon again. You want to replay GoS, Scourge, or any legacy content with your bygones, blast furnace, recluse, or midnight coup? Go for it, they will still be at a power level that allows that. Whatever new content comes out though you will have to adapt and learn to beat it by trying something new which is legitimately what half of you people -blam!- about constantly. "All they do is recycle and nothing feels new" They come out and say hey we are going to retire old weapons so we can focus more heavily on new stuff to create a new play environment and everyone goes no we dont want that..... So which is it do you want new or not? This isnt even a new concept, they did this in D1 with the taken king because the fact was the same weapons were just constantly being used and it was getting old. It forced you to handle things differently and adapt something new, and because of that it is still considered one of the best destiny DLC's. Call me a fan boy if you want but the fact of the matter is I will happily be forced to take off my recluse because i cant use it anymore to try something new because right now why would i try something new if i know i dont have to and what im using works? That is also all just for the PvE side of things look at PvP and its even worse spare rations, revoker, beloved, and hammer head... Thats all anyone uses, with the return of trials is imperative to have a way to constantly help change the meta otherwise its just boring and stale the same as PvE is right now. You want to stick with the old thats fine dont buy the new stuff and just play the old stuff with your same weapons. No one has a gun to your head saying hey keep playing the new stuff and use new weapons.

                      • Weapon retirement really, your crack squad of developers came up with, weapon retirement. I have a few weapons I love in the game they enhance me enjoyment, bring a sense if nostalgia and value overtime to the game. And you are gonna arbitrarily deprive me of my favourite weapon. To encourage me to pursue another weapon that you will again arbitrarily take away from me. So you want me to run a race where the finishing line will constantly be changing, during the race. But I have to pay to be in the race. Wow so its like you are some benign dictators deciding for me by taking choice away. I suppose you are banking (literally) on us being so dim we submit to these insidious machinations. Guys honestly I....

                        • The people who are complaining about weapon retirement are the same ones who haven’t stopped using their 3 year old bygones. I guarantee you the vast majority of you complaining haven’t used 80% of what’s in your vault. I’m sure bungie has that info though. People grow into new weapons in RPGs ALL THE TIME! This is not new. You get a new weapon grow into it....eventually grow out of it. We as a community have gotten complacent and I think changing the weapons and growing out of them pushes us all in a way we may not want to be pushed but need to be pushed.
