Weapon retirement was an issue in D1 Y1. Players wanted to bring their beloved weapon of choice forward. The solution came in the House of Wolves expansion with the Etheric Light consumable. It allowed players to update their old weapons and make them viable for the new content. Just give us something like that.
Etheric Light was uncommon enough players had to weigh which weapons to bring forward. It got players engaged in the new content because of their desire to bring some old weapons forward. Players also added new guns to their rotation when the old one was not as good, or not worth upgrading.
I would prefer to use my old guns forever until I find better options organically, but if Bungie has to make this change, at least let them offer us this compromise. Especially for legendaries that players loved enough to ornament, or had to grind out a quest to get.

6 RepliesBringing older guns forward, with a resource exchange to go and upgrade them indefinitely, defeats the purpose of the change entirely. Now, if one of these Etheric Lights were given freely once a season to bring a single weapon forward, then maybe, but it should reset after the season is over kind of like the artifact. That way, you'd still have a single weapon favorite of choice rather than excluding them altogether, and then you'd still have to go out and get new updated weapons.

If we want guns to be good like the recluse, mountain top and luna used to be, we have to accept the self life. Otherwise we end up with the current system of nerfs
