Retiring older weapons is a great idea

Retiring older weapons would put a nice little refresh on the meta, and make the game overall more enjoyable. Take this season, even last season, for example. There are a lot of people that hate this new cycle of doing activity to get new weapons, aka Sundial. "Whats the point in grinding new weapons from these events when you already have your favorite one." Well you're basically skipping the big chunk of the DLC by doing that, ofc its not gonna be fun. Would the game be more fun if Bungie capped all the older stuff? Whatever answer, you would still have to grind new weapons and new armor, which is a big part of the game, getting new and possibly better things. You probably have your god weapon(s) that you never sway from, but what if you find a new weapon that you love even more? One that you want to grind the godroll for, and if the weapon is just as easy to get like this, or last season, the godroll shouldn't take you more than 1 or 2 weeks. (Obviously it depends on how much you play and rng) The Dev post also mentioned the possible change in raid weapons to be like they were in D1. I haven't seen anyone talk about this, and its kind of unfortunate. Especially with how many complain about raid weapons not being close to being worthy of pinnacle reward. I do agree with raid weapons just being mostly like other weapons that you get from anywhere else. But since raids are only done by a small percentage of players, making them really strong would make the majority feel left out. But I feel that you have to make the pinnacle activity give the most pinnacle rewards. So making weapons from raids good, like in D1, you create a reason for players to seek out raid teams, which means more people creating more groups, which might make the lfg posts less toxic. (Obviously I'm 100% just speculating, but I wanna have a positive outlook for this game) With all the weapons in this game, there really needs to be a way to filter it all out. With all the weapons, there is gonna be at least a couple people who its their favorite weapon. So why not cap every weapon so you have to use new ones. I really do get not wanting to part with the weapon you've always used, but change doesn't mean the end of fun, or the end of Destiny. The thing Destiny really needs right now IS change. And sure, their could be better ways to go about filtering out weapons, but with how many choices of weaponry there are right now, this is probably the best way to do it. And sorry if anything is wrong in this post, just correct me :)

  • All the people who are raging don’t realize that this is how every successful loot game handles power creep. They don’t let you take one piece of loot, and then endlessly progress it through the game.

    • In talking to people about this I find that people are so determined to believe that’s is only one gun they’ll ever want to use and it sort of highlights the issue. People need a push to use new weapons and they’re choosing the best way. All old weapons are still usable forever in most content, just not the highest difficulty things. You can still play strikes, crucible, patrols, and even old raids with the same stale guns people have been using for about two years now but if you want to face the newest raid you’ll have to adapt to the available weapons at the time it comes out.

        • Encouraging change is not the same as forcing change. Making only the new loot relevant is a cheap way to artificially give it value.

I don't think players have a problem moving to a new weapon when it's better. Forcing them to move to an inherently inferior weapon that only does more damage because it's a higher level is just wrong. For example, pick your favorite weapon with your god roll on it. Lets say it's a spare rations. Now pick the worst hand cannon in the game and put the worst roll on it. Now make that worst hand cannon do more damage than your spare rations only because it can get to a higher level. Now you are forced to pick a stupidly bad weapon.

Yeah, you totally missed why expiration dates are a bad idea. Remember that perk RNG is notoriously terrible. It can easily take months for you to find the roll you want. By the time you DO find the ideal perk roll, it might only have 2-3 months of viability before the gun retires and you have to fight RNG again. So why even bother? This mechanic defeats the interest of grinding for loot... in a loot grinder game. It's just bad design.

                  • Obviously people are going to play the new content and want to try all the new weapons just because you have a favorite or a few favorites its a looter and your always gonna look for your new favorite. I simply want to know now how they are going to do it so I am not wasting my time now, in 2 weeks are they just going to say okay all year 1 and 2 weapons can no longer be infused or what. Its kind of important to know. Im also worried about new players grinding countless hours for something they hear is great just to find out its a week away from end of life or even worse already retired. I still feel they should never have announced this until they were ready to release all the details involving it. I understand power creep is a real issue but I kind of feel like we are left hanging in the wind not knowing what to do until we are told the important details like what, when and how they are doing it.

                  • I’ll leave this right here “The last thing we wanted was for you to look at your favorite gun or helmet and decide that it had become obsolete,The time you invested in your stuff should be respected” —Who said that—

                    • Get ready for those weapons to get removed only to grind for them again since they'll just be reskins.
