Thanks to Director's Cut 2020, we now know that our weapons will have an expiration date. We won't get to choose which weapons to keep using, we won't feel safe once we acquire a god roll, no matter how hard or how long we tried for it, 9 to 15 months later it will turn into a pumpkin, and if we want to keep having good toys, we gotta keep up with the treadmill.
And the justification for this is MtG. Yes, MtG, that has to keep selling new card packs, whose entire business model is based on selling new card packs, so it HAS to phase out old cards, that is what Bungie looked at and said, "That! That is exactly what we need in Destiny!". Sure, why make new and interesting perks or buff weak and useless perks, let's instead make entire weapons go away, so people HAVE to grind for whatever outlaw/rampage/kill clip weapons are available this season, and not just keep using Breakneck.
I didn't think Bungie would break something so fundamental it would make me doubt I'll keep playing the game in the long run, but I am a fool. To me, the "aspiration" of acquiring new weapons because my old weapons become unusable is trumped by the feeling of safety, that once I acquire something, I will never lose it (and by an overwhelming margin). This inability to keep what you acquire is a big reason why I never got along with WoW.
I guess if Bungie wants the treadmill grinders to be the ones who enjoy this game the most, then that's what makes commercial sense to them. Fine, if they don't want me and my money, I'll find other uses for it. All I know right now is that the day I stop being able to use my good old Rapid Hit + Rampage Night Watch will be the day the first bell of "maybe it's time to quit" will ring for me, and being able to mark that day on the calendar is kinda depressing.

statistically if you aren't a retained treadmill grinder then you are of no further value to bungie because you definitely aren't buying any more micros all this grind crap is based off of spreadsheets with no concern for player value. The only concern is maximum retention at the lowest dev cost with the least amount of player loss/burnout. our arguments that stuff 'feels' bad means almost nothing to them when it comes to grinds. All they care about is what the stats show and whether the micro buyers are being retained or recovered.

1 ReplyEdited by XxSkull FistxX: 2/28/2020 1:57:24 AMThe problem to me is especially with level advantage your gonna have a group of players that play all day. They’re gonna have pinnacle weapons right away. Others take a little longer like the weekend warriors and mid level players( good players but have less playtime) are gonna get screwed over by pinnacle weapons and it’s gonna take them longer. By the time they get the pinnacle weapons it’s gonna be towards the end and then they’ll be useless. So the way I see it and maybe I’m wrong but is there even a point of grinding and putting yourself through all that frustration only to get screwed?

15 RepliesI love my mountaintop. I worked HARD to get that -blam!-. I love my Blast Furnace. It has feeding frenzy and rampage with a range masterwork. Do you know how many times I had to do a forge to get that? I love my recluse. It has the most kills tracked on it. I don’t want to fear losing those because I’ve “used them too long.” Why the actual frick is that a problem? Get this. They reintroduced the Traveler’s Judgement and I got a godly roll on it. Guess what I do now? I USE IT. Because I LIKE IT. You’re telling me that I’m going to have to hope each new season that I’ll fall in love with one of the FEW new guns they introduce because that’s what I’ll be forced to use? Nah brah. That ain’t for me.

About god damn time , theres no loots that give me a boner anymore
-
2 RepliesWait so from what Im understanding is, the current Austringer I have is good now, but when bungie decides its time, the weapon is gone?
-
3 RepliesYou guys wanted Vendor refreshes this is how you get them
-
2 RepliesIf our guns are going to expire . . . why doesn’t the dev team start naming weapons after dairy products: Sour Milk Auto Rifle Green Cheese Pulse Rifle Moldy Bread Fusion Brown Banana Sub Machine Gun Green Ham Cannon
-
3 RepliesIt’s a live game with no end date in sight. For most players who are actively engaged, freshness and aspiration are critically missing. You will still have all the safety you want in all places except the latest endgame content.
-
5 RepliesYour weapons will not expire, you obviously cannot read. They cannot be used in end game/pinnacle activities due to power level caps. You can still use them in strikes, crucible, under leveling yourself for a greater challenge, etc. So please, quit the game. But you won't. Because everyone on here that says they will quit the game never does because its a good, fun game.

Edited by Fate: 3/1/2020 12:55:11 AMDestiny has gotten worse and worse to like it’s purposely being run into the ground Nothing but bad decisions and failed attempts to fix the game Destiny will follow evolve into the oblivion of the void at this rate
-
14 RepliesWhat is the actual purpose of this change? Mind you the devs want us to "play our way", so with that in mind what are these changes hoping to accomplish?
-
Absolute joke. A solution to a lazy studio's inept creativity and aspiration for making a better product
-
3 RepliesYeah I'm definitely going to quit soon with this new thing happening. I actually regret having mh friend purchase the season for me.

9 RepliesEdited by RPColten: 2/27/2020 11:56:09 PM
Thanks to Director's Cut 2020, we now know that our weapons will have an expiration date.
Congratulations. You've successfully misinterpreted the proposed system change.
We’ve made a lot of Magic cards, and we want you to keep the ones you love in your collection (as opposed to taking them and throwing them all away and having the Tower get destroyed again). And a bunch of those Magic cards could be playable around the world while free-roaming or in PVP formats. But where Power matters or aspirational activities are involved, we’re going to make some changes to Legendary weapons.

The simplest version of how it is going to work is: Legendary weapons will have fixed values for how high they can be infused. Those values will project the weapon’s viable-in-end-game lifespan and we think that lifespan is somewhere between 9 and 15 months.
No talk of removing them or disabling their usage. You'll have the items, they'll be in your inventory when you want to use them but their value specifically for pinnacle activities will have a limit and you'll need to expand your arsenal over time instead of remaining stagnant. Is this good or bad? Debatable. Posts that describe it as though the weapons themselves will simply be disabled or removed do not help for discussions.

If i wanted to be on a annually resetting and rotating hamsterwheel of reskins id play sports games and c.o.d.

Grab a patron with drop mag/rapid hit/osmosis or exploding rounds. It will make you forget about your nightwatch, it did for me. Osmosis is the reason. New perks on new weapons is the best way to retire old gear.

1 ReplyEdited by Jet: 2/28/2020 1:53:39 AMWhy are they doing this shit? It's like they keep going back on their word. This happened in D1. For a long time the gear from Y1 raids was obsolete when they wouldn't let us infuse the light level. Then at the end of the game they brought every raid up to standard. Are we watching history repeat itself?

2 RepliesI was waiting for the content that would finally make me put this game down... This might be it. I'm a musician that needs to practice more anyway. Music is always the best answer

1 ReplyToo late to plead that y’all don’t implement this new system. So how ’bout for once, y’all mitigate the damage by adjusting the surrounding mechanics. First, how ’bout lowering the cost of infusing weapons. Second, add back the ability to change a weapon’s Masterwork perk. Third, take some of the crap perks off these weapons. Side note: Y’all might wanna look into your RNG equations, because I’m gettin’ the same crap rolls over and over again; while rarely seein’ the desired rolls. Lastly, it is assumed that y’all are working on a Weapons “2.0” and if this is the case, y’all MIGHT wanna show your work NOW and not get some community input. But I doubt that’ll be the case, so we’ll just have to figure out how much more time we wanna invest in this franchise.

Wasnt it like this before? Older weapons got capped at a certain light, only making them usable for certain lower tier activities? Example: The messenger (trials weapon) was used alot, then it got left behind capped at 365 Light.
-
Good. Variety is the spice of life.
-
1 ReplyYeah they need to make new weapons more desirable than our god rolls we already have buuuut they decided to not care
-
Remember that weapons can have an instant retirement if bungie sees something being over used. It’s not the issue the weapons will get a semi time limit on them but with the addition of bungie just flipping a switch and nerfing something into the ground is always a constant threat for pve players. PvP I say needs a general sand box shake up every now And then and I’m looking forward to what will happen to guns such as spare rations and mind benders but it’s sucks knowing that my trophy hunter is not only getting a nerf but also has a time limit on top of it for pve.

14 Replies“The last thing we wanted was for you to look at your favorite gun or helmet and decide that it had become obsolete...the time you invested in your stuff should be respected.“

so does destiny 2.

Why such a stupid move Bungie?
