Sniper nerf is a huge step backward for the pvp sandbox

This sniper nerf is about to cripple the use of snipers in pvp as well as making a huge step back for the sandbox overall. Remember when Bungie lowered super armor so that they could feel less like win buttons and actually be challenged by players out of super? Bungie just destroyed one of the main super shutdown weapon types in the game and is now funneling us into one sniper that is already the most used sniper in the game. With the new nerf, adaptive frames will no longer headshot kill supers without box breathing. There is though a popular sniper that can, Revoker. I feel Bungie is now limiting use of snipers and what they can do in pvp, and I believe if you can hit that headshot on a super then you should get the kill. This is going to indirectly funnel us into more use of Revoker, and knowing how bungie see's when things get over used, lead to a nerf to Revoker. I love sniping in this game, and its a shame to see bungie nerfing these weapons after they have finally made a presence in pvp. This is a terrible nerf when we look at super armor, now its either run box breathing or an aggressive frame to kill supers, and they go right back to being harder to individually shut down without the correct circumstances.

  • I disagree, snipers and shotguns are still incredibly overpowered. Snipers just make every other weapon garbage. No weapon in the game should be an instant kill.

      I agree. This is a HUGE step backwards in regards to the PvP sandbox. I don't get why more people aren't talking about this. Also, this just got worse with Trials, since it's going to have Powerlevels enabled. The only things that are reliable in Iron banner are Slugshotguns and Sniper-rifles in Iron Banner if you are under-powered. If you only play PvP in D2, that's you. I only play PvP, and I'm down 40+ powerlevels some IB-matches. I have no reason to believe they are going to use a different model of "power-level enabled". Trials is going to be as affected by the Powerlevel discrepancy of IB, and that is REALLY BAD. With Snipers and Slugshotguns being the only reliable weapons to use for low-powered players, they also removed (roughly) A THIRD of viable options amongst snipers. (also with Powerlevel enabled, it's no longer garanteed kills on REGULAR GUARDIANS with fast-fireing snipers) Great thinking there.

      • I think this is more about finding the right roll instead of an Archetype globally being able to do something. I can bet that a sniper with Vorpal and/or High Impact reserves can still take out a Super.

        I agree. Adaptive snipers should be able to OHK lower resilience guardians out of super (not all guardians without a damage buff, to give reasons to run resilience and/or higher impact snipers). The only PvP change that's necessary is more an issue in general, not snipers. And that's flinch needing to be retooled a bit.

      • As per below comments. The sniper and GL nerfs were totally unnecessary in my opinion. PVE gameplay appears to have taken a hit as boss damage will be less and instead of 1 or 2 phasing bosses we are now probably looking at 3 phase boss fights. I get the nerf for the other 1HK special weapons(fusions and shot guns) to create a skill gap for the reintroduction of Trials. Overall the PVE side of gameplay will probably become less fun to play as space magic(abilities and subclasses)will no doubt be nerfed as well.

        agree snipers were not overpowered and were good tools against PvE bosses that overuse stomp nerf was unnecessary, as was the nerf in GL, which pisses me off cause i farmed good ones

      • I believe snipers in general need to be brought back to their D1 state. They just have not felt as good since D1

      • The only problem i have with snipers is the bullet magnetism. And when it feels like my hit boxes are the size of a minivan. I thought the way they worked prior to when they nerfed them so people would use bows was more or less fine.

        The nerfs for snipers are more pve oriented, the only noticeable one is the super shutdown headshot that some snipers won't be able to do anymore.. And i reiterate "some", just swap to a different one if you want to keep shutting supers down, or not, your choice.
