I remember when The Last Of Us came out and people were tilted because the hostile humans always seemed to find SOME way to flank and overwhelm you. But the reason they did that is because THEY'RE YOUR ENEMY! THEIR JOB IS TO KILL YOU! The enemies in Destiny LITERALLY play hide and seek/ring around the rosy with you. It's unbelievable. I can't think of any other game where the enemies actively try to NOT engage you. Like what's the point of a psion's shockwave? It doesn't kill you. It just sends you up in the air. It seems like the only point of it is to troll you.

Compared to D1 enemies yes you are right

I'm guessing that you do absolutely no 980 master ordeals, Pit of Heresy, or master nightmare hunts. 10 RepliesPersonally, I prefer some (not all) of Destiny's enemy's AIs more than the AIs from other games. For me, the Destiny AI makes enemies smart. Smart in the sense that they feel more alive, more real. They don't just try to kill you. They also try to survive. They seek cover to recharge shields. They use their abilities effectively. I mean yes, it's annoying. You can't just shoot them and they just stand there until they drop. But I think that's a good thing. In older games that come to my mind many enemies were dumb. They just charged you or stood around until either you or them were dead. Increased difficulty literally only increased their health, and/or their damage output, your health and damage output, and made them more aggressive. I had games were enemies simply charged you and mowed you down because they 'knew' they will survive and you won't. I had games where enemies literally threw endless grenades immediately when you took cover in a place where they couldn't hit you with their aimbot skills. I also had games where the AI was too dumb to drive a vehicle straight (looking at you Halo). Destiny AI feels like an evolution of Halo's AI, in that they enemy feels alive and that they try to outsmart you. Cabal flank you. They take cover behind a Phalanx. Psions try to make you an easy target by lifting you in the air. Warbeasts distract you. Captains teleport into cover (too often). Dregs charge you with their small figure, trying to get their hit in in hopes of getting more Ether (or die trying). Wizards detain and disorient you with their cloud. Knights block shots while the Acolytes flank you. And Taken just troll you. Because they can.

I'm all for more battles but after seeing the utter bullshit that is enemies in gambit, I'd rather not overtune enemies
-
3 RepliesFallen Captains are the absolute worst! (Other than Taken captains and taken in general)
-
This is what happens when your enemies in a game have really bad ai.
-
1 ReplyI agree with this to an extent. Yes, the enemies need to be more aggressive and not hide as much. They really are too easy to kill. However, I also think that they shouldn't be TOO hard to kill, and combat should be a good in-between of duck-and-cover and the spray-and-pray it is now. The AI needs an overhaul, and the damage could be increased a bit, but the only enemies I ever really have a problem with are the melee enemies, ogres, hydras, cyclopses (those things hurt), and any of the sniper variants. Snipers I feel are at a perfect spot, those things do exactly what they're supposed to do.
-
That means you dont play the end game at all. Lol
-
4 RepliesThey are excellent at throwing unlimited grenades across the entire map in the 980 Nightfalls.
-
You don’t know -blam!- enemies until you’ve tried Division 2.
-
I can't think of any other game where the enemies actively try to NOT engage you
You clearly haven't been playing video games long then, or have any idea of the concept of Mook Chivalry. Seriously, go and play just about any action/adventure game and rush the enemy, they just have no idea how to react. Grand Theft Auto V is a good example of this, the devs clearly expected you to be using ranged weapons 99% of the time, that means you can just rush them with a melee weapon and they're literally not even a threat... At least Destiny actually has melee combat in mind when it comes to enemy mechanics...
-
The only thing annoying to me are suicide bombers spawning out of mid air in gambit (Cursed thralls, scarabs) Especially playing a titan, a class centered around melee combat, is rendered useless. Goodbye 15 motes
-
Tbf if I was a lowly dreg and my enemy was a bunch of immortal warriors with god-slaying superpowers that have killed just about all of my leaders and driven my people to near extinction, I’d think like a Joestar and run like hell.
-
Well think about it. They were told to defend a mining drill. Nobody said anything about fighting genocidal maniacs. I would hide too. Guardians are scary.
-
Imagine complaining that the AI doesn’t rush you and let you kill them lol
-
Majors and higher rank enemies push you. But acolytes and psions for example are meant to harass you from afar unless you're up on them then they're just trying to fight us to live...
they fail due to our badassery
-
The flames of the psion wave kill you. Fast. And its meant to pop you out from cover and get melted in the air or die from fall damage. Seems like a good ability to me, especially for the enemy that can spawn with a SNIPER RIFLE. As for the actively trying not to engage its good and bad. Its good because the enemy cares about its own well being and trying to extend its life as much as possible for as much utility as possible. Its bad when the AI goes crazy with it and doesn't do it to just regen a shield or get a better position.
-
the police on any GTA would like to have a word with you
-
The Division 2 ennemies are even worse.
-
AI in this game is awful, even Crysis 1 AI was better lol
-
4 RepliesYea, the enemies in this game aren't really that unique. Every battle is essential the same. They all just spam their weapons. Have no reload animation, they have no strategy. I hate Ogres and Abominations, because intuitively they should be melee enemies but they arent. They just spam attacks like everything else.
-
Torn☆Ink☆Ski🤟 - old
The design of the enemies are also lame and underwhelming. Same creatures regardless of planet. Look about as menacing as a post man in lycra. -
This is not the last of us or dead souls. This is a FPS barely hanging together.
-
4 RepliesWait so your example of annoying/troll enemies is a psion? Did you forget there's an entire "faction" dedicated to trolling and being annoying? The Taken still exist ya know. Let's put aside the lazy design even. You have a bunch of reskinned enemies that were intentionally designed to be more annoying Whack-a-mole psions lagging thrall spam blinding ball captains booping phalanx the everlasting thrall spawners invisible minotaurs circle jerking goblins and those stupid vandals that pop a titan bubble for no damn reason making you sit there and wait for it to go away just to shoot one more time and finish it off ...Taken piss me off
-
They've clearly spent too much time in the curcible. They're adapting the same techniques lol

14 RepliesEdited by thatdudeEd54: 2/24/2020 5:40:46 PMYou ever seen elites in Halo? They act like most majors in destiny. Hide when weak, and they become aggressive as hell when you're weak
