That's the new proposal if we have, heaven forbid, worked our butts off to upgrade one armour set (yes, just ONE).
People tend to forget that it's THREE Ascendant Shards and FIVE Enhancement Prisms to MW the last levels of ONE exotic.
So to upgrade and change the affinity of one set of armour with just one exotic just once and excluding the 5 upgrade modules:
1700 enhancement cores *
5650 planetary materials
2,400,000 glimmer
.
I have THREE characters, IRO fourteen masterworked pieces including exotics, and only one lifetime. Please change, this is not feasible without being justified restrictions.
* NB. Clearly this is to highlight the actual equivalent cost broken down to cores rather than to suggest you spend 10 years at Banshee only getting cores - this really needn't be spelled out so explicitly but 2 folks out of several hundred had a hard time with that comprehension.

How many heroic Ordeals for 14 Ascendant Shards and 22 Enhancement Prisms? As a solo player that's the equivalent of 162 Prisms (Shards being 10 Prisms). You might be lucky and get 1 every four runs. So that's a very optimistic estimate of a minimum 642 Heroic Nightmare Ordeals for ONE SINGLE Masterwork and change Workable yes? This is UNAFFORDABLE just to switch ONCE between arbitrary restrictions that serve no purpose and shouldn't have been implemented in the first place.

20 RepliesIt's very realistic. What people like you want is to be handed everything on a silver platter. I see it as a reasonable compromise. If you have a problem boo hoo. You're encouraged to play the game. But no one is forcing you to grind out. If this game was ridiculously easy it would be boring in a week.

1 ReplyAs a very average player for whom master level content is extremely difficult, pretty much all I do in game is gunsmith bounties for shards. I have 3 pieces of mw armour but I'd really like to mw this season's set as it has decent stats. Now, I know I don't have to but, it's something I'd really like to do. The only way I can do this is gun smith bounties, and o my god, its a grind. I don't have friends who can carry me through this stuff to get the prisms etc. I've tried on my own but get destroyed. Point is, players who aren't top tier also want to mw stuff.

1 ReplyThis post got buried. Bungie's forums knows how to suppress real feedback.

1 ReplyYikes. Glad I’m still using my 1.0 scourge armor. -blam!- that.

The number of people still complaining about this astounds me. Your math is impeccable and it does illustrate the absurdity of trying to change elements late in the game. My question would be “what kind of a numbskull MW an armor piece he doesn’t like/use the affinity for?” Your argument is weak because nobody is doing what you suggest. If you don’t like and don’t use solar armor, you’re not MW it. Period. And if for some strange reason you are, you have way more material than sense. This is a completely accurate, but nonsensical argument.

Maybe if they added a reward or consumable that you can get from a select raid or something once a week that you can fully masterwork a piece of armor. Or maybe dismantling a masterworked piece of armor gave you this item as well to automatically masterwork a new piece of gear. So if you want multiple masterworked sets, cool, put in the work. But if you want to replace something, at least you have an avenue to move your progress to another piece of gear.

I’m stuck in an awkward position when thinking about this. On the one hand, I understand why there’s a large cost for changing element. The cost is, on paper, fair. It costs just as much as it would’ve to get another piece and MW it +1 Module and minus all of the farming to get it. In practice though, these materials drop from too few sources to justify this cost, especially considering now players are being punished for unknowingly MWing a piece. Add more sources for these materials or just make it like half the cost. Even just one Ascendent shard and one module would be fine imo.

Spending all that time and resources to get one armor set perfect for your build, then Bungie comes along and nuke nerfs your favorite weapons into dust. No thanks! Destiny doesn't require min/maxing. I'm not wasting the time to do it.

2 RepliesEdited by Ardour: 2/17/2020 8:28:14 AMThumbs up. Since armor 2.0 I dont give a damn bout masterorking dis shaet. Only guns. You can place a couple of mods wihout spending EC and its fine to me. But masterworkin full set...jeez my life is not that pointless.

2 RepliesIt's more toeords players that have saved lot of them and got lots of them
-
1 ReplyI have never masterworked a single piece of armor. The closest pieces I have are about rank 8. I play PvP and they don’t give materials so it’s not gonna happen.
-
4 RepliesSteps to avoid these problems: 1. Don't masterwork armour if you don't like the affinity. 2. Only masterwork up to 8-9 energy if you want to constantly swap out the affinity. It'll only cost 3 cores & 1 or 3 prisms. 3. Think carefully about what mods you want to use. Swap out affinity before you upgrade. 4. 950/980 ordeal nightfalls. Do them. Both give prisms, 980s can give shards. 5. If grinding 950/980 nightfalls is getting boring, keep in mind you can get something like 18 prisms (1.8 shards) per week from Pit of Heresy. You'll be sacrifcing a pinnacle armour drop, but the pinnacle power grind is kinda optional anyways so... 6. Ask for prisms and shards to drop from more activities. That's the real issue here. If prisms and shards dropped from PvP, raid encounters, dungeons, or even just as world drops this wouldn't be an issue. And adding better in game group finders so more players can actually access said activities.

1 ReplyOh great, another one of those posts pretending that the only way to get the stuff is from Banshee. AND you got the costs wrong. Try 870 cores for the Prisms and Shards, and some chump change for the earlier levels. Not that you should ever BUY the stuff, unless you had maxed out Prisms already... All that aside, you know the season pass armor is gonna drop near god rolled anyway, so just get that, make the affinity what you want without spending a single Prism or Shard, and THEN masterwork it.
-
I see it as a safety net if you get a really good piece of gear to drop but don’t like the affinity. Really think people are making too much out of this. Bungie want affinities as a mechanic and now they’ve given us the ability to manipulate that. The price is steep but you’re not meant to be swapping affinities all the time, it’s more of a one time thing.
-
1 ReplyIts expensive, yes. But do you really have to reroll a complete set? Plus you can play ml nf to get shards.
-
11 RepliesWho tf spends cores to get prisms and shards?

32 Replies1 poh boss is 6 shards and prisims why are u all doing math using gunsmith only

12 RepliesEdited by whateverman7: 2/16/2020 8:53:32 PMYea, this post is an example of no matter what bungie does, some people in the community will complain just to complain. I say that because most havent upgraded/masterworked armor sets because of the element/last mod slot. It's useless and a waste of materials right now. We voiced that to bungie, they listened and are making a change that benefits us. The fact that we can change elements and that the last mod slot will be able to use all seasonal mods, means we dont have to grind for so many different sets/materials. Yet, here you are going on a rant about potential material costs that wont affect the majority, just cause. Lol no, just no. Some of yall really need to stop looking for reasons to be upset. I'm talking about life in general, not just bungie/the game.

8 RepliesEdited by Logan: 2/16/2020 7:24:19 PMFirst and foremost let's get the math correct cause you are so far off it's not even funny. To masterwork a piece you need: 15000 glimmer 24 legendary shards 3 masterwork cores 3 enhancement prisms 1 acendant shard < ( + 2 it it's an exotic ) 5 upgrade modules Bungie said : " Changing an armor Affinity type will cost 1 Upgrade Module. If your armor is already upgraded to a higher energy level, the cost will be the total upgrade materials necessary to reach that energy value plus 1 Upgrade Module." Those are the real numbers. Not this 1700 cores BS the OP is pushing. You don't need planet materials to get upgrade modules, there's banshee bounties and concentrated mattergrams. This whole post he's inflated the numbers to the point of ridiculous stupidity.
-
22 RepliesOr, you know, maybe don't upgrade your armor until after you've changed the affinity?
-
3 RepliesMaybe you should've thought about the long term before shoving three golf balls into an exotic. Instead you've heard this change, did the math and posted the highest possible cost without even understanding how this coming system will be implemented. Furthermore, quit it with this solo player crap. Console or PC, there are so many places to access lfg's it's ridiculous. There is no good reason to not be able to do a 980 with randoms in lfg unless your hot garbage or a total contrarian, or you lack the necessary appendages to use the normal controls operated by a functioning human being. The 980's are easy. Butch up and step up and actually put in real work and not that low level 750 and 920 runs. Those won't net you squat and you know it. That's like standing in front of three vending machines, each one costing a quarter increment more, but the highest one guarantees quality while the quarter one gives you an empty can half the time, but you keep shoving quarters in and complaining nothing is happening. I can't say much more there, as you're match history is set to private and that's always a red flag.
-
3 Repliesyour not supposed to be changing all your gear. Changing the element is for when you get the stats you want but not the element. Its designed so that your not swapping out the element every 2 seconds. It promotes having at least 1 set of each element (which isn't asking much)
-
23 RepliesThe Destiny engine is a great engine. Movements, aiming, shooting, jumping are first class. But, the game is far from being what it used to be, as far as progress goes. Gotta find another game. Any suggestions?
-
13 RepliesSounds like the system’s working as intended. The price is painful enough to either stop you from doing it, or make you never want to do it a second time. This system is supposed to function like the recalibration table in The Division 2. A chance to reroll a single stat for an almost-perfect year item. Not a means to constantly swap elemental affinity so you don’t have to chase after armor as loot.
-
5 RepliesPSA. You can make several builds A DAY in MHW Iceborne. Enjoy.
