Elemental armor affinities. I would say "thank you", but 1 detail ruined it.

No problem if the armor is low level, but if it's been upgraded at all, you'll need all the spent resources up to that level and an additional upgrade module. If I read that right, you'll need all those cores, prisms, and whatever the exotic resource I can't remember the name of was, just to change the element. You give everyone what they want, but add another grind to it, a grind that almost excludes solo players again, making this change pointless to more than half your players, especially the ones who have already leveled up their gear a lot! "It's endgame/ pinnacle activities." Should I be forced to play the Ordeal for 2 of a single resource? No. "You're not being forced to do anything." If anything is locked behind a certain activity/ quest, then yes, I am. If I want it, I have to play that activity for it. I am forced to play the same strike multiple times on Hero if I want them. I need very specific gear that goes against my playstyle for Legend and Master on top of constantly dealing with people who don't play it the smart/ easier way so I just gave up because it became a waste of my time. You clearly don't think these through, do you? The only people who'll benefit from this are the people who actually can get groups to grind out the pinnacle rewards, specifically, the ones who spend hours grinding the same Nightfall for a handful of prisms. I can guarantee, you'll be getting a lot of negative feedback for this even if you added those resources to other, more solo friendly activities. You took a great addition to the game, and you butchered it without a second thought.

  • Bungie has this neurosis about micromanaging the game. It’s not enough that you play and enjoy the game. But you have to play and enjoy it their way. Bungie wants everyone to play the whole game. But they refuse to accept that most people don’t want to do this, and identify strongly with one part of the game versus the others. So when you put things that are needed for progression (horizontal progression here rather than the vertical progression of last year’s Milestones) in a part of the game people don’t like? They don’t joyously play that part of the game after seeing the errors of their ways. They stop playing . Either the entire game, or the part of the game you’re twisting their arm to get them to do it your way. The Seasonal Artifact is evidence that Bungie might be waking up from this finally. But this system was clearly a ham-handed effort to make the non-match made Nightfall relevant and to pressure people into playing it.

They really don't learn and don't want to make things like any other company would do. The best and easiest solution is remove elements from armors and mods once for all and make a mod menu in the armors that lets you select first which type of mod you want to equip by pressing: the autorifle related mods button, submachine ones, sniper ones, health ones, grenade ones, class skills, others, etc... and after clicking a submenu will appear showing all of the related mods of that type. (I don't have problems since "arc" gives me all the choices I need for my playstyle, but I'm one of the few cases that all my weapons are in 1 element) That way Bungie can avoid that stupid excuse they gave at the beta of Armor -2.0 that "there were too many mods and we had to divide them into the 3 elements". And then we will be able to finally equip mods according to the weapons/style/needs we like/want. Is it that hard, Bungie? or you just want to make things ridiculously hard for the players?. Here's the solution to your excuse, now choose between being stubborn like a kid and do what you've announced or accept the suggestion and apply it for the next season.

  • The decision to allow element changes on armour is great. The decision to make it cost a trillion enhancement materials on fully upgraded (masterworked) gear is very very very poor. Very poo. Very stinky.

    • I love how the entire game now amounts to amassing a single material. Like, that's the entire point of the game.

      • I actually couldn't believe my eyes when I saw it will take the upgrade materials already invested. That's 3 Prisms and one Ascendant Shard for ONE item, but actually TWICE now. If you've already upgraded an Exotic you like it's even worse. Seriously, a ton of players have already upgraded armor they like, and now you punish them for it? This really is the most asinine way to "address" this problem, it's like when you "addressed" the Masterwork economy. Why can't you just let it cost an Upgrade Module and let that be it? Oh right, because the game needs unreasonable grind to keep people engaged. Everything for the engagement (and advertising Eververse).

In typical Bungie fashion, they blew it right at the end.

          • I was actually about to praise bungie for these changes, the brief description I heard on a video sounded really good. But in typical bungie fashion there’s always a big negative which overshadows the positive. The grind for upgrade mats was already very monotonous, boring and unrewarding now they’ve just increased it. Bungie really aren’t the devs to provide fun to a game.

Great, they just added another reason I will never Masterwork any of my armor. Why can't they do anything right? They always half-ass everything, or screw up a simple solution to a simple problem by adding their own stupid little twist to it. So much for listening to us. Seems they half-ass that as well.

              • You’re 100% right, why do you need to collect all the same upgrade materials all over again for the second time just to change the element??? They can’t stop being stupid I swear this game is so good but they keep messing it up with idiotic decisions and policies.

                • Currencies aren't currency. They're carefully controlled stacks of items so Bungie can micromanage how many hours you need to input to aquire gear. The intention isn't good content, it's taking your time.

                    • Completely agree that the cost to change the element affinity is totally overboard. I'm not opposed to there being a cost, but really... what's the point of making it super expensive? On the "bright side"... The more I think about it the biggest impact is to existing armor that is already upgraded or new drops that happen to drop with a higher energy. I would think that the typical player would change the affinity on a new drop BEFORE deciding to upgrade it. I doubt that most people are going to be switching affinity back and forth considering you would have to continually re-slot all your mods too. I would venture to say that most players won't be impacted by the high cost once they make any initial switches. It is really nice that the seasonal mod slot is now universal. Hopefully that also means that ALL season/activity specific mods (ie raid mods, dreaming city mods, etc.) will be able to be slotted in the "seasonal" slot.

                      • An upgrade (new piece of gear replaces an existing piece of gear) costs an upgrade module. That's pretty basic and a necessary change, from my perspective. What folks are upset about is ALTERING existing masterworked gear, not "getting a good stat drop with the wrong affinity on it" and I see those as two distinctly different things. I get it, people just want to be able to flip affinity on armor at will, and I disagree with that. If you have a masterworked void set, and you want to go solar because shiny new season mods, grind out a solar set, it's not going to get handed to you. Stick to your guns, Bungie.

                      • It's just not worth it changing affinity after upgrading, might as well upgrade another piece of gear and have 2 upgraded pieces with different affinities.

                      • Dude calm down. It’s just to avoid people swapping one piece of armor repeatedly. It’s meant so that you get it, swap it, and be done with it.

                      • This change was made to give you the ability to switch affinities on a good piece of armor when it drops, not when it's already part of your full set. If it only cost one Module every time, no matter what, 80% of the community would use one armor set and rotate it around, never grinding anything else out ever again

                        • Well this seems easy to understand to me. If they didnt have a cost (and a steep cost) for MW armor, then you would literally never need to find a piece of armor again, ever. You could just slot out affinity for the weapons and/or activities you were playing. Again no reason at all to ever look for, or loot armor. I'm sure Bungie is concerned about this. They don't want to make the game too much of a hassle, but they need retention. Giving players an offramp that would allow them to never ever have to find another piece of gear, is obviously frightening.

                          • I can sort of understand why they did this. People would just keep their old stuff and switch elements on the fly whenever they needed to. It should be a serious decision you make at the start to change affinity.

                              • You are missing the point where if you were a solo player you would not have any masterworked armor anyway because you would not have the required materials. So useless arguement is useless.
