I've been trying to figure out what makes D2 so different from D1 and I came to the conclusion that D2 either no longer follows the 30 seconds of fun philosophy or its poor executed.
For those who dont know the 30 seconds of fun philosophy, was something bungie came up while developing Halo CE. Essential it means that at certain points in the game there would be breif periods in which you get rushed by overwhelming enemies and just as quickly as it began it ended.
Examples include truth and reconciliation mission, when you reach the gravity lift and get over run by waves of adds.
343 guilty spark, when you first encounter the flood.
Spekis prime strike, when your in the building before the fallen walker fight and you have to fight off fallen and hive while your ghost brings down the sheild.
Oryx boss fight
The absorb crotas essence mission, when you cloaking wears off and you have to survive till you get pulled out.
Waking the hive on the moon for the first time.
In D2, the only mission that comes to mind with that sort of feel would be the shadow keep mission were the darkness blocks your light at the end and you have to escape the hell mouth with no powers. Reckoning kinda gets close but is dragged out to long.
