I've only been playing for a week, and so far I find the game to be really fun. However, the game is just way too complicated to understand. I don't know what I am doing. I just go around clicking on things until it lets me play. Once I'm in, I just mindlessly kill stuff. I didn't even know there was a story-line until I seen someone mention it in the forums.
I tried to find a guide to get a grip in how the game is supposed to be played, and that guide had over 30 links to other guides. I don't have that kind of time available to read that much material, just to try and understand the game. I'd rather be playing...
Destiny 2 is not a game you can just pick up and play, which is sad. The way it plays is fun(running around shooting bad guys), anything outside of that is a headache.
Yesterday, I had a overlay at the bottom of the screen that said, hover over the quest and press A. What quest? I tried fiddling with things for twenty minute s trying to figure it out. I never did, I ended up play for an hour with that overlay blocking the ammunition UI.
I have no idea as to what I'm supposed to be doing. So I just play the same things over and over.

Edited by Loscohones: 10/18/2021 10:37:23 PMI have the same problem here... I'm 40 yo and i've been gaming since 7...i love Diablo, Fallout etc. series and all of it's spinoffs..... I've been playing Destiny since it was first released on ps4, and i'm playing D2 on my pc since it debuted on Activision-Blizzard and then Steam...i love the game..i love fps rpg, but.... D2 for me just got too complicated on every level, there are maybe hundreds of things that i have to keep an eye on. Sometimes i feel like i'm in some kind of advanced flight simulator that i have to use every key on my board just to play it right. I thought Divinity series was hard but D2 has the crown for me right now to be a total brainf*ck :) Please Bungie...... streamline the game....at least next time :)

Yeah, it’s a research game in which violence occasionally breaks out. Do dailies. Core bounties from the gunsmith, needed for upgrades. Spend glimmer at Spider for planetary materials needed for upgrades. Do weekly strikes, Gambit and Crucible, if you like them, and get bright dust which can buy some Eververse stuff. Use mostly blues for upgrades at first when you’ll progress pretty fast. Save shards because you can’t buy them and they come from braking down Legendary gear. One gun gives thee shards. And really look around the Edz carefully. The detail is crazy good and was done back when Bumgie was actually trying.

Edited by Fly1ngLettuce: 2/12/2021 9:55:41 AMNo worries dude, the only way to play Destiny 2 is by having a laptop ready with youtube, reddit, and google to look up steps to complete missions. IF you want quick loot just go to gambit and PVP matches. For specific loot you'll need to do quests and follow convoluted progressions which will 100% require you to look up steps on youtube. (for most of them). This is the best advice I have to give you to get quick with quests and contracts. Stay on one planet for a long time and figure everything out about that planet. Every-time you're doing a mission always pick up contracts from the local NPCs and always have youtube ready to look up video step processes for your quests. If you want even better loot at a faster rate get the DLCs and a season pass. If you want to level up your power faster don't keep any weapons or armors until you reach 1200. Literally only equip items with higher numbers and delete the other ones until you reach that number. I've only been playing for 10 days and I'm already at 1265 and just completed my first raid. (The raid was probably the most unfun experience I had though so I don't recommend it, unless you want to spend hours watching youtube videos, or finding someone that can coach you.) Only reason I'm continuing playing is because I got the DLCs, but after I get plat and complete all the stories I will probably move on. And honestly I have no idea what the lore is in this game, because I use most of my energy actually figuring out how to maneuver around the UI and convoluted progression systems than actually enjoying the story or remembering it. Recently Destiny 2 player counts have been dropping significantly, and I think it's because this game is very unfriendly to new players. They are losing legacy players just because they are going out of fashion, and they are not getting new players just because it's not accessible. There really is no way to ease players into their maze. The only good thing about this game is the actual gameplay, sadly its progression system is so bad that the awesomeness of Destiny 2 is burdened; but playing as a Guardian is very satisfying :D People talk about hand holding, but just because a game is purposely complicated doesn't make it smart. Games like Machinarium, Disco Elysium, Deponia, and JRPGs can seem very confusing and hard to players to figure out puzzles and progress through stories, but those are games designed to be puzzles in the way you maneuver around their maps and stories (and you can beat all those games without ever using google search). Destiny 2 is just complicated just to be complicated and there is no actual puzzle here. So don't feel dumb when you play this game, it's not a smart game; but it is an amazing FPS game so make the decision if you want to continue playing it.

6 RepliesJust read, everything has a small description. You want an actually complex game with no directions? Play warframe and you’ll see how bad that can be (still a good game though)

1 ReplyEdited by nusho: 2/10/2020 12:34:29 PMI've been playing for about 2 months and 180 hours or so, and I never really had any issues with playing the game.. lol. Do people REALLY need this much hand-holding? When I didn't know what something meant, I Googled it, and there's ALWAYS a step-by-step set of instructions online for every in-game activity, should you need it. I didn't need it all that often, but some quests are purposefully vague, and knowing someone went through the trouble of figuring it out, I figure I don't need to do the same all over again, so.. Google. I guess some people are just completely helpless and would certainly die if someone weren't providing everything for them. As far as the quests and campaigns went, I didn't find it difficult at all to move from one thing to the next. I'm 980 on two classes now after only a few months of playing 2-3 hours a day on most days. I think the issue here is that people have been spoiled by a society that tells them exactly what to do every day, and by games that give them GPS and tell them exactly what to do with every quest. All of that being said, I've found the game to be a refreshing step away from your typical, boring, GPS-heavy MMO's. The campaign portion of the game was definitely messy, though. They don't need to make it easy for dim people, but they should definitely organize it a bit better.

I've got over 1000 hours on the destiny franchise and didn't realise there was a story mission to save saint-14 until recently...
-
The least they could've done was make an introductory cutscene for new players.
-
Yeah it is hard for new players. The game is the worst i've ever seen for explaining itself and very bad and unspecific descriptions. Sadly you need to google a lot and watch tons of youtube. Best thing is to get in a helpful clan to get to know how it works. It will take a while anyway.

1 ReplyEdited by Deadly Peanut: 2/8/2020 7:37:18 AMif you're going to D2, you gotta google seriously, you've got to get one of the four million guides or guide videos and follow it. I've never done more research to figure out what the heck is going on than i have in D2 don't like to research? find another game D2 is a disorganized mess of content and Dev give absolutely no guidance to new players as to what to do or where to go. i love when they drop an item into your quests called 'a strange item that smells of mint'. you have NO idea what the frick the thing is or what to do with it. It takes a certain unique kind of stupid to do that in a game
-
That’s sadly how destinybis played until you either have been there from the start and picked up the direction by following the new markers .. if you are on psn send me an invite .. it’s not the first time I have new beginners a round up ..

5 RepliesDestiny is complicated??? Pick up a Mission/Bounty ---> Complete that mission Go try Warframe if you want complicated.
-
15 RepliesBoy, if you think Destiny is too complicated, I'd love to see you try to play Monster Hunter World. Destiny is soooooo simplistic. You've played a week and didn't even know there were story missions? I think video games aren't for you if you can't follow the icons telling you where to go.

Edited by SCTTSMALL: 2/8/2020 1:07:40 AM
So I just play the same things over and over.
Sounds like you are a Destiny veteran with that conclusion you have came to.

16 RepliesHow does this game confuse so many people? What's so complicated? Just read what pops up on screen an that explains most things pretty simply
-
I have tried to bring many people into this game but the learning curve is a nightmare.
-
5 RepliesEdited by Swift: 2/7/2020 1:41:59 PMforgive me if i may be wrong, but my experience with the game (when getting my cousin started) was after the intro mission, you get quest prompts to tell you where to go next. So i'm not quite sure what is hard to follow.
-
You are also in stadia, arguably the worst platform for D2 right now, so you won’t find many people who can Sherpa you. BUT reddit has some nice guides for new players if you want those

7 RepliesEdited by SailGREid-3: 2/7/2020 10:15:47 AMI can understand your problem. It happened to me with other similar games that are free to play or free-ish to play like destiny. Destiny 2 is a huge game now in its 3rd year so it is hard for new players. Basically as newbie you can just launch strikes, crucible, gambit (3 biggest activities) and then there are many horde modes matchmade or non matchmade. If you care about the story you can go to Amanda Holiday. She is on the right part of the tower when your looking the tower map. She has 3 quests than you can pick (red war, curse osiris and warmind). Do them in that order and you ve basically done the story of year 1. Then, go to the map of the Tangle Shore UI and at the bottom you ll find the forsaken campaign (year 2). After forsaken, there is the annual pass of year 2. I don't know how much of it you can play if you haven't bought anything. There were three content drops: Season of the forge, of the Drifter, of Opulence. Forge had basicly 4 forges (now it is one forge playlist in bottom left corner of the edz map), drifter had reckoning (a horde mode) and a gambit prime ( an advanced version of gambit with armor specific perks) and opulence had the menagerie (horde mode). There were also some story quests here and there in these 3 drops. After that you have Shadowkeep and Season of dawn. When you play each story be sure that you experience all the strikes and raids (it is difficult to find people for the raids some times but it is worth it). Maps, Strikes, Raids and horde modes per content drop: Season 1: Red War Campaign Maps: EDZ, Titan, Nessus, Io Strikes: 1)Arms Dealer (Cabal) 2)Lake of Shadows (Taken) 3)Savathun's Song (Hive) 4)The Pyramidion (Vex) 5)Inverted Spire (Vex) 6)Exodus Crash (Fallen) Raid: Leviathan ( Nessus UI Bottom of the map, golden ship, top middle icon) Season 2: Curse of Osiris Map: Mercury Strikes: 7)A Garden World (Vex) 8)Tree of Probabilities (Cabal) Raid: Eater of Worlds ( Nessus UI Bottom of the map, golden ship, top left icon i think) Season 3: Warmind Map: Mars Strikes: 9)Strange Terrain (Hive) 10)Will of the Thousands (Hive) 11)The Insight Terminus (Cabal) Horde mode: escalation protocol ( non matchmade on mars public space) Raid: Spire of Stars ( Nessus UI Bottom of the map, golden ship, top right icon i think) Season 4: Forsaken (Season of the Outlaw) Maps: Tangled Shore, Dreaming City Strikes: 12)Hollowed Lair (Scorn) 13)Warden of Nothing (Fallen) 14)Broodhold (Hive) 15)The Corrupted (Taken) Horde mode: Blind Well (non matchmade on the Dreaming City map) Raid: Last Wish (top left of the Dreaming City map) Season 5: Season of the Forge Horde mode: 4 Forges (2 on the EDZ, 2 on Nessus) now in the forge playlist (bottom left corner on the edz map, matchmade). Raid: Scourge of the Past (top/middle right of edz map) Season 6: Season of the drifter Horde mode: Reckoning (in the gambit group of activities, matchmade) Season 7: Season of Opulence Horde mode: Menagerie (next to the golden ship in the nessus UI, matchmade) Raid: Crown of Sorrow (in the golden ship UI, bottom icon) Season 8: Shadowkeep ( Season of the Undying) Map: Moon Strikes: 16)The Scarlet Keep (Hive) 17)Festering Core (Taken) Horde Modes: Altar of Sorrow (on the moon map, non matchmade) Vex Offensive (expired mode, no longer exists) Raid: Garden of Salvation (top left on the moon map UI) We are now in season 9. If you re after for some good loot fast go to the menagerie horde mode if it is available to you and watch a video about how to use the chalice. Sundial is really good too, especially now with the fractaline farm and the tower obelisk. Obviously i can't relay everything to you. There are secret exotic quests etc but you can see them from your collections and watch a video about how to obtain them. I hope this helped and if you have any questions please ask. I hope Bungie had done a better job at this and it is a shame to lose new passionate players.

Just turn it off and never come back. You'll thank yourself.

Do yourself a favor and quit now you'll thank me.

1 ReplyEdited by BeerMeYouWill: 2/7/2020 12:28:14 PMLMAO🤣🤣🤣🤣 THIS GAME JUST SUCKS NOW! Sorry you're late to the show bud, Destiny's heyday's are behind us my friend.
-
Well bungie has no idea what they r doing so... I hate having to look every damn thing up on utube to get anything accomplished because everything has to be a secret which makes no sense... Have the time the story doesn't make any sense and there r plot hole big enough to drive a train through
-
If you're looking for a game purely for shooting without anything that requires much thinking this is not the game for you. Bungie has said they want to make the game more like RPGs with more complex elements over time. The game is already very clearly heading that way.
-
Yeah, I believe it's designed that way. They want you to run around, discover stuff and figure it out. There are many guides to help you if you cant figure it out. Maybe join a clan and they can help you.
-
1 ReplyIn a year, you'll describe the game the same way so long as you aren't a fanboy like many of the players. I shoot stuff. I like it. I don't know WTF I'm doing. The world of this game is one of the least convincing game worlds I've ever played in. And I've played some hot garbage in my time. Glad you enjoyed a tad of something for free, paid content will always provide a superior content. I recommend you buy Iceborne. You'll put in a thousand hours without even knowing it.
-
To be honest, you're better off playing Destiny 1 first. The way they set things up for new players is a complete mess. At least by playing D1, you'd recognize the figures in the Tower and things would make more sense. Hopefully, Bungo will heed your feedback
