Hand cannon range nerf created the special weapon meta

Everyone biggest complaint(outside of que times) is special weapons 1 shot meta. Well what did anyone expect when the best and most used primary was nerfed and lost 15-25% of its range. People were not going to just change to how they play and put down their hand cannons. The opposite happened. They found new ranges and ways to win. And that was 1hk weapons. The nerf did the opposite of intended and made the crucible less fun for those who were enjoying themselves previously and did not change the meta. It did kill off 140,180 and 110 hand cannons so instead of diversifying the weapons used, they forced our hand not forgotten and Luna on console and Spare on pc. Undue the nerf. Atleast people were being killed by primaries that meant to you had to win a duel. Now every duel is 1-2 shots before the way shorter gap due to range gets closed with a finishing shotgun shell. Pick your poison better next time Bungie.

Why should one type of primary be the only thing keeping special weapon on check? In general the weapon sandbox is balanced fine right now. It might make sense to see some buffs of primaries in specific archetypes (110, 140 HCs not all HCs, etc) to bring them all to a happy medium to compete but beyond that the risk of a worse sandbox is very very high.

  • 1HK weapons or 1HK sticky grenades have always been popular throughout the history of this franchise. Whatever provides the fastest TTK is what will be used the most regardless of what it is. Thorn had its day. So did Clever Dragon. So did fusions. D1 ended with sidearms and NLB being popular choices. Bungie creates specific metas so certain guns get used then they nerf them signalling a new meta. Problem is we’ve had the same meta for way too long. I like pulse rifles. Been using a pulse rifle forever in PVP. I’d welcome a scout rifle meta but that won’t ever happen because it would make bows useless. ARs were good on release now they’re garbage compared to what they once were just like many HCs on console are garbage now. Shotguns will eventually be replaced by sidearms. Fusions will eventually become obsolete and snipers will become less accurate. Bungie will decide what you play with if you want the fastest TTK. You’ll use it because you’ll get tired of getting rekt by those who do. It’s important to remember that Bungie does not want the skill gap to be large. The majority of players prefer the meta 1HK weapons because it allows them to compete with players who are better and they aren’t disadvantaged by using other guns.

  • I'm pretty sure the sheer amount of ammo we can obtain because of armor 2.0 is the actual cause and NOT them nerfing handcannons. People, since they reintroduced special, have been glued to it because it's the most effective way to kill players, the most efficient and the easiest. And considering how much easier it is to get erentil, dusk rock and beloved which are arguably the best of the weapon type, it's not surprising that the game has devolved so hard into special only matches. They could undo the handcannon nerf and almost literally nothing would happen. Also, considering pulse rifles are still a very viable weapon type and were follow ups to handcannons in terms of usage, it would, by your logic, be a more primary oriented meta even with handcannons toned down, which is not the case which supports my argument more than yours. Handcannons are still very much a viable weapon type, you just cant rely on them for everything anymore. You have to pick your battles and use them more carefully. You can still use them like an idiot and win gun fights but it's not quite the same as it was.
