Personally, I think all of these options are important to the health of pvp, but the most important to me is simply a lackluster selection of game modes. I’ve been playing fps shooters for nearly 20 years now, and I’m bored with the same “team deathmatch” style game mode. I need some sort of objective or I get incredibly bored. I can’t even focus on connection or gun balancing if I can’t even be entertained by the gameplay. But I realize I’m probably the minority, so I would like to see where the community stands on this issue. What is the breaking point or the most important flaw in pvp for YOU?
Edit:
Thank you all for your feedback (sorry I forgot to put “loot incentive” as an option. I’m sure it would’ve been a top choice). It is as I predicted, the community is very split, and I am the minority on this issue. It sounds like bungie has spread themselves too thin, and they can’t please all the different types of players. So here is my suggestion: have a season dedicated to working completely on crucible every year. Work solely on weapon and class balancing, add new maps, new weapons and armor to achieve, release a triumph book exclusively for crucible, designate a portion of the team to focus on health of the crucible, dedicate a larger portion of the bungie team to deploying updates and fixes for crucible during the season, and separate a god forsaken objective playlist for the weirdos like me who are bored of clash, control, and elim (and populate it with ACTUAL fun objective modes like capture the flag, infected, rift with points ONLY for scoring goals, etc.).
Edit edit:
Looks like I am the serious minority. I guess everyone on the planet is content with playing a variation of clash in every single game mode. I’m sorry, but after playing the same game mode for 22 1/2 years, I just can’t enjoy “team deathmatch”. Which is why I switch to rocket league or apex when I need to enjoy some pvp action.

1 ReplyI hate crucible, there's always some griefer that plays 24/7 that makes it impossible for the game to be fun, and impossible for people like me to complete the seasonal challenges. I can't put my self through it. I feel like I can't get my money out of the content because they won't do skill based match making - it's BS and I'm ready to quit for good.

4 Repliesi hate titans with shoulder charge, it's so unnecessarily annoying getting shoulder charged 4 times in rumble in 5 minutes

18 Repliespoints loss system in "Comp." i'd play Destiny 2 everyday if that didn't exist.

Erentil and Shotgun Apes. This is exactly why Bungie put both in the Heavy slot in year 1. Here we are, a community complaining about the same issues D1 had because the same community wanted Shotguns and Fusions back as special weapons and you know, I’m usually against Bungie most of the time but if they ever wonder “What the hell do they want”, I completely understand now. You can argue “Well why don’t you just use Shotguns or Fusions” all you want, it’s not fun to me. Playing Space Call of Duty is not fun to me. It’s exactly what it is.

2 Replies> Hand Cannons are just REALLY boring, both to use and play against, since they've been undisputed Kings for a really long time > ARs have for the most part been an insult to terrible since House of Wolves > Warlocks... Everything they have comes with a massive caveat > Team balancing is an insult to terrible > 10 Hz peer to peer

The maps. Most were designed for 4v4. Also the rewards, once you’ve played awhile you will never get anything new. Crucible loot pool is beyond stagnant. IMO the real reason is free to play. All crucible modes come with new light. Bungie doesn’t want to work on something that’s free, no money to be made from it.

1 ReplyLack of primary gun fights. I 'd love if there was a primary only mode, kinda like when D2 first came out for when I don't want to equip a shottie or fusion Also I'd love for supremacy to be a standard selection Rift was also kinda fun from D1

I still play crucible regardless, but if I have to give a reason....Citadel and Gambler's Ruin are my reason to stop playing crucible. Those maps are the bane of my existence.

None no pinnacle gear no playey

All of the above

flinch and the lack of primary gunplay

1 Reply1. What SBMM represents in this game to me is being placed on the losing team for long stretches, one or two decent games and maybe one game that “feels” in my favor, and that game goes to mercy before I even get warmed up. TERRIBLE lobby balancing. 2. Consistently being matched out of region. I have a router with net duma Software so I can see data on every match in reference to ping etc. 3. Piss poor class and weapon balance. I play all classes and it’s a goddamn shame how under powered and useless warlocks are in the crucible. It’s also completely -blam!- that you have fusions competing with scout rifles.

Edited by Vale: 2/2/2020 4:11:50 AMIt's a mixture of things... The main reason is people are under the illusion that their good at the game and think this is a skill based game not a gear based one... I know someone is better then me if they outplayed me and didn't T bag me... Like if a titan in D1 has universal remote and a pistol with twilight garrison spam and over sheild while camping then he T bags me I get angry but then I realised he has so many advantages that at some point the game is giving him free kills and then I realise being good at this game is worthless.

2 RepliesNeed... - Massive maps - bigger teams - vehicles

1 ReplyMeta hasn’t changed in years and all anyone runs in comp and Elim are hand canon/shotgun.

1 ReplyEdited by Fujimoose: 1/30/2020 12:36:19 AMPvp is cheap and inconsistent. Gun fights feel inconsistent whether it's from hit detection or lag doesn't matter. This is one of the pvp games where it feels like a digital dice is rolled every time you shoot at someone even if your aim is perfect. And it's also cheap because people tend to fall back on the stronger ohk weapons or abilities.

4 RepliesMatchmaking... I’m a casual yet any playlist is just sweats or stacks, even comp at 0 points all I get is nf 3500-5500. Honestly just put me against people at my rank.

But I have games where I see a lot of weapons and I get to pull out my Monte Carlo or something new. Was actually able to take out tlw and side arm on shores of time because no revokers for once

1 ReplyActually primarily the MM, but I guess that can fall under connection or server issues. I hate SBMM. If CBMM meant I’d have good games even 75% of the time but had to play against really good players sometimes I’m fine with that. I don’t mind having to be better. What I mind is when gittin gud isn’t even an option because damage just flat out refuses to register or it queues up so it seems like you get all three HC shots or a few pulse bursts all at once.

For me, I just find PvP in most games to be boring at best or annoying at worst. While I am not really bad at it, I just never feel like it engages me that much. When I was younger I did more PvP in games but these days I prefer PvE, mainly solo but I do enjoy cooperative PvE at times. Really, for me there is not likely anything Bungie could do to engage me in PvP content outside of completing steps for other stuff like a quest or story mission. If the next season really is about Trials I will likely be taking another break from D2 or just float about casually in the PvE content.

Edited by BoyarD: 1/29/2020 7:41:22 PM1. Abundance of special ammo 2. Stacked teams 3. Joining games that have already started (granted the team I join are getting stomped and the other team has supers) I still play that dumpster fire of a PvP anyway. It can be fun a good amount of the time.

1 ReplyCompetitive game modes should not be included in free to play content. This makes it too easy for cheaters to abuse the system with throw away accounts More incentive when levelling for example resetting valor should award an ascendant shard alongside the enhancement cores More opportunity for Pinnacle drops A freelance playlist that allows people to solo queue without getting steamrolled in modes like classic mix against 6 stacks Point protection in the survival playlist if a team mate leaves

1 ReplyOptions 1 and 3 aren't an issue in my opinion.1 is basically people refusing to get better at the game so they blame others/game for their shortcomings and 3 is just people who want to play with others. It's an online multiplayer game, deal with it. Not our fault if you want to play by yourself.
