destiny is no longer a looter shooter... and its a shame too.

after recent incidents of the corridors of time and the bastion let down, i really needed a moment to think about what this game is now... i dont honestly know WHAT exactly this game is anymore, but if i had to really peg it and be brutally honest, id say its not a looter shooter. its a FOMO mobile game. all you do is log in each week, see what the mtx store is selling, look around the tower and log out after you have completed what ever mission is available that week. only to rinse and repeat the same thing 7 days later. and sometimes you dont have a new mission on anything to do for weeks on end. a real looter shooter 100%! gone are the days of arms day! gone are factions and there own loot table. gone is trials of osiris, gone are strike specific loot. gone is any reason to play strikes, gone are vendors that rotated weapons and armor every week. gone are the days we spent grinding for that new crucible weapon, or dead orbits fabled hung jury. this game has removed so much content, that anything but f2p would have been an insult. even still paying ten dollars for... what ever the hell this is... is still an insult. so i decided, this game is for idiots who cant see beyond the veil, that there is really nothing here. and its a shame, cuz i used to love this game. i dont know if its good-bye, or a cya later thing right now but, i think its time we all stopped playing. and maybe bungie will re priorities and improve the game with the stakes higher, or maybe they will crumble and another studio will succeed where bungie failed. your an adult make your own choice, im not gonna tell you how to live your life.

The industry has sure changed. The mobile market sure put a sting in what other Live service games do. Destiny, CoD, Battlefield, ETC. They all became victims on Loot boxes and the FoMo ideology its insane.

      • I posted this a while back, seems relevant to your post so I'm going to paste it here.👇 -The game is just boring as hell now. - The game has focuses way too heavily on bounties for xp and micro transactions. I couldn't think of a more boring way to play this game. I just can't do it anymore. -Seasons. Just not a big fan. Destiny was more fun for me and many others with a the more traditional expansion format that I could play when I have the time available. Artifacts are a neat idea, but need to stay and not disappear when a new Artifact comes out. Limiting our options is just a bad idea IMO. - Raids are not fun or very creative. Nobody wants to raid anymore because they are way to mechanic heavy and people are tired of being called out for screwing up or dying (in the hardest activity in the game mind you). We want a challenge, but we also want some room for error. The days of helping random guardian are gone. D1, 2 people could die and your team could still clutch it out creating awesome moments and friendships in the process. If I could offer any advice, all I got to say is Kings Fall was a master piece of what a raid should be with The Last wish a close second. Honorable mentions, Vault of Glass, and Wrath of the Machine. - No strike specific loot. Strike specific loot needs to return, chasing random rolls (while playing the game not doing bounties) is what we loved about this game. Not having this makes the game grow stale real quick. - Lack of story or immersion. Story missions that you can replay on every planet like in D1 were awesome. You could go back at anytime to try and understand the story better, or find a good farming spot for bounties or quests without interruption. Plus the Dead ghost search was fun too,Good lore pieces. This game is missing this vital element. -No Factions. Factions were a big part of what made D1 great, especially when they introduced random rolls on weekly reset. Every Tuesday you had that giddy feeling you were going to finally find that God roll you were looking for, weather it was an armor piece or weapon, and if it was there, and you didn't have the materials to get it, you were off grinding away happily. This game is missing this vital element. - Crucible. This has been a trial and error process since D1. They will never get it right until, I hate to say it, and I am going to get alot of hate for saying it, but they need to use a Call of Duty style leveling system with weapons and perks that unlock as you rank up. This is the only way to level the playing field and bring skill back into the equation and must 100% be separate from PVE! PVE weapon stay in PVE and PVP weapons stay in PvP! They are just way overthinking it in my opinion, the game just feels all over the place and a mess right now. Hopefully the next installment of Destiny next fall will go back to a more traditional story driven game. Get back to what put this game on the map.

This is the identity crisis this game is having that everyone has been going on about. D2 doesn't feel like a looter shooter in part because it lacks that spark the first game had, and it continues to fail to strike a chord with players through various aspects of its loot system. Back in D1, didn't have an obnoxious and nauseating version of the Eververse store filled with vast amounts "exotic" aesthetic gimmicks designed to capitalize off of show-off people by quenching their hedonistic egos. Many exotics in D1 felt very powerful and "exotic" like they rightfully should, many were not overshadowed by very viable legendary options and had a time and place in certain activities. Elemental primaries (which incentivized raids/trials) were still a thing and very relevant especially in burn Nightfalls even more so before the burn modifier got nerfed. There was a strong bond players had with their most coveted, prized, trusty, and dear weapons in D1 (I cherished my vanilla hard-hitting VoC, fatebringer, New Monarchy Faction Crusader I scout rifle, and versatile 1000 Yard Stare sniper rifle that I was real crackshot with back in TTK). Legendary, sublime, and rare engrams (all which had a low chance to dip into a higher rarity pool on decryption) dropped encrypted which made Rahool relevant. Didn't have prime engrams (which inflates the loot aspect of D2) that the game would occasionally spoon feed for a measly increase power level only for it to amount to nothing but a waste of time at the end of a bloody season. In D1, players actually had to unlock weapon perks (perks that actually were warranted and made a difference which made weapons actually feel progressively stronger) Field Scout on VoC gave it like 20+ shots in a mag for a scout. You didn't get a hip-fire grip sniper rifle as a random drop; many weapons came with coherent perk selections. With exotics it was all the more tantalizing to fully upgrade a great exotic weapon (Gjallarhorn, Red Death, P&T to name a few) and crack open it's true unfettered power. Hidden perks were also an added bonus to discover on many exotics. It's a disservice and ridiculous to compare D1 exotics to many D2 exotics, 90% of exotics in this game are pathetically average, lackluster, and a trope in regards to your time. They should be legendaries really as they detract from and dilute the potency of the term "exotic." Most exotics in this game have no "meat" just like many of the flashy emotes, ghost shells, new finishers, and sparrows prominent in Eververse. All lusterful cash-grabbing gimmicks designed to entice. Now I see the word "exotic" and that yellow background on items in D2 more as an exploitive sales pitch thanks to Eververse; it's a travesty really. The gunplay and loot is such an essential and fundamental part of this franchise; it's the meaningful and precious experiences players share with their weapons over time that defines the looter shooter genre. The hardship and ludicrous probability they endure to even attain a stellar weapon, and how they groom that weapon as well as customize it to fit their unique playstyle that makes looter shooters as addicting as they are enjoyable. Rant over. Edit: Grammar

            • I think we can take Bungie at their own word: “Destiny 2 is a collections game” So, there you go. This unhappiness some feel is because they try to participate in the “collections” aspect of the game only to find that the way we collect things is not fun and very generic. You do a generic thing to get a piece of loot which is usually a random piece of loot. Shortly after the announcement that D2 was a collections game we saw most of the new, interesting collectibles shoved into the cash shop or battle pass, which are updated each season. We have seasonal events where the cash shop is updated again, mid-season. Instead of killing Oryx to get that highly sought after shader, we now just purchase it from a vending machine. Whoever thought this was an interesting way to collect things had those $$ in their eyes, and nothing more.

              • It's not going to be an MMO, as much as I love levels and min/maxing and getting the top tier gear it just doesn't have enough content depth to pull it off. So they're kind of stuck with loooter/shooter, where they could still thrive if they wanted to. But they have this crazy idea that they're going to be more MMO and it's killing the only strong choice they really have.

                • I decided to go in and look at all the entries in the collections to see how much loot there is vs d1. This is a little off because both technically have duplicate items for remade weapons but here it is. d1 had 852 weapons and that's not even counting the heavy weapons. I'm looking at some destiny tracker sight for this and the heavy weapon link isn't working currently. This number would probably be over 1000 if I could count the LMGs and Rockets, along with the exotic heavys. Each weapon had over 100 entries with the exception of sidearms(counted) and the swords(not counted) d2, total, has 659. That's looking at my collections. We can probably add around 10 to make up for any missed trials weapons that I never got. I won't count armor for d1 because it's a little more complicated to get rid of the engrams on the site and there is still armor in the database that was never accounted for. (see Faceguard of Kabr) If anyone wants to look into it, I counted 118 lines of armor in d2 collections. This counts all the eververse sets as 2 sets due to the "universal ornaments" thing that was added in year 3. Destiny 2 has officially gotten into it's year 3 but it's not anywhere close to having the same amount of loot that d1 had, weapon wise. If anyone wants to check or correct my numbers, feel free to. I used https://db.destinytracker.com/d1/items to count. I counted 40 items per full page. I'd be fine if D2 could be said to have more quality loot but IMO, it's on par, if not worse in most cases.

                      • Please Bungie, Hear these cries. I love the game as well and play daily. I am now thinking about what I am going to do with all of my spare time when I quit playing. I am literally thinking about the seemingly inevitable collapse every time I log on and off. Yes I am still playing but it's not enough. Bungie needs to work to get this right.

                      • You can't play one single game for the rest of your life and not get bored of it, it's just not possible. When people get bored they play some other game and come back to the old game if there is any new developement. That's what normal people do at least. Addicts behave differently, they cling on to the same game forever and keep whining and crying because they are bored and there's nothing to do since they already did everything due to their addiction.

How is this not a looter shooter? It's the damn definition of it. There is so much to do in this game it's actually heavy for new players. Hundreds of great weapons to collect. Tons of different ways to collect them. I think your issue is that you've played it all, like... alot. Take a break. Go play a different loot game for 2 years and let me know how exciting it is at the end.

                            • Well I play Destiny on and off these days just to complete exotic quests and to play Crucible mainly. I'm playing Witcher 3 now and will play something else after that. I don't have to wait for anyone to add something to Destiny because it's not like I have to play it everyday, I can play whenever I want at my own pace. As for the FOMO thing, it doesn't take much time to finish everything in the season and then move on to some other game. Smart people do that, they play a game till they like it and then move on to something else. Might get back to the old game if something interesting comes up. Stupid people keep on clinging to the same game for months or years and keep on whining and complaining that there's nothing to do. There's nothing to do because you frigging did everything already in one week and are bored but addicted.
