The medals for the Randy's Throwing Knife quest have to be those generated by weapon multikills. Some bounties are far more valuable than other. Most people go for the cold fusion medal, which is earned by defeating two opponents with a fusion rifle without reloading in a single life. You get about 1.5% per cold fusion medal. Behind the scenes, the medals part of the quest requires 14000 points to complete. Each kill is worth 1 point. Multikill medals using a primary weapon are worth about the same. Cold fusion medals are worth 150 to 250 points (Sorry, I forget the exact amount). You can see how things would add up faster with them.

It's very slow unless you're getting certain weapon specific medals, such as Cold Fusion.
