Wife and I tried our best but neither of us could manage to pull this one off. We pretty much played D2 most of our free time since event started. If you have a just a full time job let alone any other kind of obligation you're pretty much SOL. This grind was completely unreasonable for us as we both have full time jobs, and we don't even have kids. It was also our first Dawning event. We didn't know about AFK farming until last couple days either. I timed us on strikes and calculated about 9 minutes per strike with load times in between. Averaging 16 essence per strike this amounts to 188 total strikes to get 3k essence, which is about 28+ hours of grind. There are entire video games that you can beat in 30 hours!! I don't know what asshole chose 300 as the goal but I guess no-lifers who have nothing better to do are the loudest ones kicking and screaming for more grind so, here we are.
The dawning was a total cluster fu*k and bungie should not repeat this ever again ... it is clear that the higher ups have absolutely no clue on any level from open world to endgame content. It you asked me was it worth it ... the answer is no
