Crucible is dying, and this is why

This is going to be long because I am going to be going over everything that makes pvp such a currently unenjoyable experience. Some of these issues are going to be controversial, and I plan to cover those issues first to get them out of the way. Full disclosure. I am currently sitting at a 1.77KD, have approximately 1300 hours of playtime inside of the crucible, and I main a warlock. My most used weapons in order are handcannon, shotgun, pulse rifle. With that out of the way let's get into this. -SBMM. It doesn't, and will NEVER work in destiny. Now, I know that's enough to get this post downvoted to hell, but let me explain why SBMM doesn't work in destiny. Destiny, is a game about power fantasy, killing swarms upon swarms of enemies endlessly. And with such power things are going to be obviously powerful (i.e ohk abilities like handheld and throwing knife). And those abilities are incredibly easy to use, often requiring little to no thought but to press a button. These abilities are used by people of ALL skill levels, and the kills people get with them are equally free on ALL skill levels. Now, when everyone has access to these abilities that hand out free kills, this suppresses the skill gap because even if you get lucky with said ability it's still an instant kill with little to no counterplay. Things like this run rampant in destiny as every class has something that is free or "cheesy". These abilities alone are a massive issue for skillful play and need to be nerfed heavily to maintain a balanced ability sandbox. The next reason SBMM doesnt work is because of weapon rng In crucible sometimes it isnt about how good you are with a specific weapon, but what specific weapon you're using. For instance, say I am in a duel with someone and we both have the idea to pull out our shotguns to finish each other off. I am using a retold tale with slideshot and rampage, and they are using a mindbenders with snapshot and quickdraw. Who wins that fight? The one who pulls out their gun first. Now that I've lost the duel I'm to wonder what I did wrong and how I do better, but I lost that fight to factors that I cannot control. That is an issue across the whole of pvp, weapons matter more than skill. The final reason that SBMM doesnt work is the connections. Desting is a game that uses p2p connection. That mixed with SBMM is a recipe for disaster especially when the player population is low. I'm not going to go into technicalities on why this is an issue, just know that it truly doesnt work. I'm going to end this part of the post saying that I'm not entirely against SBMM. I dont care that I'm playing the best players in the world as long as I know that they beat me because they're better, and not because of some weapon or ability they're using. I feel as if a lot of higher end players in the forums dont express just how much randomness there is in this game and how skill can only get you so far. And because they fail to mention this, it seems like they just want SBMM to be gone to pubstom, and dont get me wrong, there are people like that but they are in the minority. Any super high level of play in destiny pvp currently is a joke compared to other games and that is due to the fact that the game is so random, it shouldn't be taken seriously and isnt, anyone who plays crucible consistently knows this. TL;DR - SBMM in a game with an actively suppressed skill gap and p2p connection is always bad. -Class balance. All classes should be equally useful in all activities across the board. The fact that there is are single classes that dominate certain activities is baffling. In a game where power fantasy is key, you'd think that everything would be universally relevant. That unfortunately is not the case. Hunters dominate the crucible, and for valid reason. Their movement is unparalleled by the 2 other classes which ends up being an issue. Either buff the other classes mobility or slightly nerf hunter mobility. These issues are very noticeable against supers. Not only can hunters outrun most supers, but in-super they will almost always catch up to you while you're running away. This ends in up being very frustrating and not very fun. Now I'm not saying the other classes dont have completely busted things. I'm saying none of them are as noticeable as the things hunters have. Ideally in pvp everyone is on an equal. playing field and the classes should cater towards a certain niche. The issue is that hunters offer such an advantage over other things that you'd be stupid not to use one. Sorry, this needed to be said. -High impact fusions. Welp, if I haven't made everyone mad this surely will. I DONT CARE HOW YOU LOOK AT IT, HIGH IMPACT FUSIONS ARE BROKEN. The fix for this is very simple. Either make the travel time of the bolts much slower, make them heavy, or give them a hard range cap. The fact that it is even possible to kill someone from 70+ meters away with a fusions is absurd and an issues. Backup plan should also be looked at. Maybe make it only active for the first shot? -Abilities. One shot abilities are a massive issue. Things like shoulder charged, handheld, and weighted knife all need a massive nerf. Hitboxes for all of them are too generous and handhelds max range is actually dumb, 13m sounds like a good range to me. It currently goes to around 18? Recharges for those abilities also need be dialed back. Contraverse needs to be a consistent percentage, skullfort is fine, and weighted knife needs to be a pickup like mini-hammer instead of getting it back for free every kill. -#BuffPrimaries. I see A LOT of people in these forums asking for shotgun nerfs, which are not needed. Nerfing them anymore than they've already been nerfed is a bad idea, what they can (and should) do is buff primaries, so that way it's easier to shut down that ape that keeps holding forward and getting free kills with his shotgun. This not only decreases the amount of special spam, but it increases the amount of primary engagements you get in and overall ttk speeding up the gameplay, meaning high kill games and more potential to outgun your enemies. It's a win all across the board. -Heavy ammo. I dont know what it is, but the changes they made to recude the amount of heavy somehow increased the amount overall. It's simple, heavy once, maybe twice per game, and when someone dies with heavy ammo it just disappears. Someone winning a fight just because they ran over someone's body who just so happened to have heavy is the most frustrating thing ever. Heavy in comp is also an issue. Twice per round? SERIOUSLY? It needs to once every 2 rounds or something. There is simply just too much heavy in crucible. -Flinch. Hands down one of the worst things in the game, especially for snipers since it helps you aim. I have no idea who thought that was even a good idea but IT'S NOT. I'm fine with flinch being in the game as long as the values are the same across the board and not essentially random. Flinch should be predictable so players can learn the patterns and better control their weapons in gunfights creating a higher skill ceiling. Things like high-cal need to be nerfed into the ground. Make them over penetrate or something, add a range or impact buff, not a flinch buff. It's a common thing to lose what would've been an easy gunfight in destiny just because someone has a perk on their gun that makes it hard for you to aim. Gotta love how skillful preventing the other player from aiming is :) or in a snipers case, gotta love getting free headshots. -Melee. For the love of god I cannot say how many melee duels I've had that end in a trade even though I get my melee off before the enemy does and they slap me upside the head from the grave. I have no clue why this happens all I know is that this has been an issue since I can remember. Literally anything they can do to even try to fix it is better than them doing nothing at all. Destiny is the only game I've ever played where this is an issue. Bungie please
Buff warlock melee btw
-Various bugs. There are bugs that have been in the game since launch that have received no attention and it's honestly laughable. For example, top stormcallers transcendence ability has a small window after activation to be 1 hit by anything in the game that can do damage. And here recently blink isnt working in you swap weapons before jumping (a pc exclusive issue I think). Please do some investigating into these and fix them. The quality of life would be drastically improved. Continued in comments...

 • -Supers. Almost every super in the game is busted. The hitboxes are insane, some are impossible to run away from, and some will track you from Canada to Ukraine. Nerfing them would be a good, but you'd also have to increase the frequency that they are gained due to a decrease in efficacy. -Individual exotic and weapon tuning. This needs to happen more frequently, the fact that we only get 1 sandbox update per season is a sham. Things have been broken for months and we just have to wait it out. That ruins player experience, no one wants to wait for a patch for something that's broken. Most people will go play something else, which isnt good. You want people to play this game. I want people to play this game. Bungie needs to have a closer ear to the community when it comes to weapon balancing, because it seems they barely listen and/just do what they want. For example, take the handcannon nerfs. Way too hard of a nerf, either nerf the range, or falloff. Not both at the same time. If something is still too good after the first nerf, nerf it again. If it's too weak after that then buff it. It is extremely frustrating to want to use something and know you're putting yourself at a disadvantage because there are things that just outclass it with ease (auto rifles for example). Please ease into balance patches and make them more frequent instead of once a season, it's simple. I want this to be a civil conversation, please done be rude. I want this to be genuine feedback for bungie to see and hopefully improve upon. If you've read all of this thanks for your time. :)
