the main issue with the game isn't casual vs hardcore
it's that bungie lately seems to be designing SOLELY for /timeplayed and retention mechanics to get more micros. This means lots of grinds but not much content.
They are literally testing their playerbase for how much they can increase grinds with as little content as possible in the 'world'. They put the rest into eververse. They try to force us out of our comfortable weapons and armor because that ties into our main power grind and is one of the biggest grind motivators.
But tons of players are just quitting.
It is design by spreadsheet, not by fun.

Swing and a miss. 1. They are giving a steady drip feed of content because this community demanded that there be no content droughts. 2. the EV store has a larger foot print because the entry point of this game is now FREE (literally the first two years of Destiny 2)...and purchasing seasonal content is now OPTIONAL. So (unlike with Activision) if you want to skip all of this year's content and come back in year 4, you don't have to BUY all of Y3 cotnent just be able to play. All due respect this kind of blind angry cynicism is a lot of what the "problem" is. Gamers all too wiling to cynically call out developers for THEIR greed....but are blind to the greedy, entitled behavior in our own ranks.

yep i wish i could just apply piercing distruption or staggering to any weapon (with primary ammo) like a normal mod, this way i can play what i want, of course with some expectations like bows can't have distruption i think that would be it. also the whole idea of artefact with all it's glitches doesn't look bright for me. also the ordeal kind of thing was really good wish it applied to raids as well, also 980 should lock your power on max 960 and i think grinding artefact XP should be removed.

I don't think that's the full story or it's at least my hope still. I agree they are trying to draw out content beyond intent and putting to much into menial grinds, but again, I think part of that has been from Feedback, but I also believe that it's a function of trying to make up for so much lost development time. I replied to Kellygreen elsewhere that as great as Forsaken was, it actually might have been even better had the studio not shifted such a large portion off of it's development and onto all the reactionary changes to sandbox, leveling and investment from the player revolt. And more was lost going into Shadowkeep with the Crucible rebuild and Activision split. I think this year is Bungie playing catch-up and I hope the community gives them the time to start building forward and adding depth instead of changing existing things.
